Best candy seller at the club.

Career best season coming up.

Getting a little tired of 'won't happen' as a response to Worpel being dropped. I get that in reality this is most likely - but I would be hoping in this new era that we are done with the Clarko way of doing things where players get a run based on credits in the bank.

Nash and Jaeger, while limited with their touches, played their roles as required on Sunday and did the team thing often. Also - Nash may have only had 10 disposals, but he went at 100% DE, made 7 tackles, 3 clearances had score involvements with 50% of his disposals and was able to do some pinch hitting in the ruck. Nash did his job. I haven't re-watched the game yet but having been at the game I couldn't pick out one thing that Worpel did that would warrant his selection this week. He's coming off a lacklustre pre-season in terms of the practice games and two seasons where he has regressed from his 2019 best and fairest form. Nash, Finn, Shiels and Jaeger all did enough to not warrant being dropped - I have my criticisms of Mitchell but he wasn't droppable either.
I don't get why people are itching to drop Morrison, are glad to see the back of Howe but keep defending Worpel when brought next to nothing to the table on Sunday. I want Worps to be 2019 Worps for us as much as any Hawthorn supporter - but based on form this year he can not be selected over Finn, Nash, Ward, MacDonald, Newcombe, Shiels, Morrison or whoever your favourite whipping boy might be.

Based on what I saw Sunday - if Worpel wants to show that he is part of our future then he can have a run with Box Hill and show how badly he wants to fight for his senior spot, not just get it on tenure.

I actually thought he kicked the ball inside 50 better than he has in whole career. He had two at full pace that laced out the leading forward.
Makes selection far more complicated when one of our senior players is down on form but actually succeeding at their typical weaknesses.

There were a few players who played out of position where players could play that role better.

Shiels on a wing for example, think Day could come in and he/Jiath/Scrimshaw type could go to a wing and do it better.

Nash was decent in the guts but Maginness could probably do similar (It'd be a risk but) to get Breust back in forward which would release some class upfield in MacDonald and Wingard, it'd be worth it.
Nash had 100% disposal efficiency, Maginness not so much.

Frost vs Finalyson
Grainger-Barras vs Marshall
Sicily vs Georgiadis
Hardwick vs Gray
Jiath vs Rozee

Right now, Georgiadis is Port Adelaide’s most dangerous forward. Sicily is the perfect matchup.

Who will tag Wines?
Wines and Boak both need to be watched.

Can’t run 2 negaters at the same time but you won’t get any if JOM, Tom or Worpel to look at anything but a Sherrin when they ball is in play. So they’re basically no good in that regard.

The answer is the little fella wearing #26, with Finn giving him a chop out if necessary.

His entries looked a little streaky to me...he kicked a couple of lasers while off balance and under pressure and nailed them. IT would be a challenge to repeat that but if he does then we have a player :)

No better time if you ask me. Send a signal to the young list that you won't be in the side via your reputation. If the key to regaining 2018/19 Worpel is sending him back to Box Hill for a couple of weeks then it could be a good thing all round.

I think this season we will regrettably see the end of Shiels - so Worps can basically put a target on his back and come for him. But if Ward and MacDonald can handle the seniors and are showing they are capable of getting the job done I think it will be better for their development to learn around the core of players they will be coming through with. At this rate I don't think any of Finn, Ward or MacDonald underperformed Worpel on the day so all 3 should not be under threat of making way for Day this week - they should be playing with him.

I want Worps to be part of our future - when he is on I really like what he can do and if he and Newc can get a combination going where they are both big bodied midfielders who can go forward and kick a goal then it will help our side immensely. But at this present time I think he should be made to show he wants to be a part of that future as much as we want it for him.

I don’t seen Worpel being dropped before of Finn, based on that one game. Finn’s running power is fantastic, but his disposal is errant and decision making still raw. Worpel was below his best, but is still impactful - composure and confidence that seem to have slipped, but not effort. I’d expect Sam to give him more time to come good.

It’s going to be very interesting to see who goes out, maybe from philipps, shiels, finn. Not bad to have these options and selection pressure!

Can’t believe people aren’t picking Day. If he got through todays hit out, he’s a must.

in: Day, Breust, McEvoy, Kosi
Out: Maginess, Worpel, Nash, Lynch

Would like to see Mitchell persist with, DGB, Ward and MacDonald
What did Nash do wrong? Rucked, tackling beast and great in the midfield. You are a harsh marker.

but his disposal is errant and decision making still raw.

That is Worpel's weaknesses also, but without Finn's ability to run. The run that Finn providers could be fairly crucial against a banged up Port also.

Forgot about Morrison. Happy to drop him. Don't understand the persistence we have put in him TBH. Dime a dozen who doesn't offer much imo

Runs hard and doesn't make too many mistakes. Rick Ladson type.

I think Morrison is one of the more important players for the kids. He reads the game well and can guide them. He also played really well against North. I can’t see him missing this week.

I don’t think there is an obvious second out. Phillips, Worpel, Magginess, and maybe Shiels are the most likely candidates to my mind, but I don’t think we have much of a read of Sam’s thinking on selections yet. Will be interesting to see what he does. The other possibility is rotation of the kids to manage their workload, but it may be too early for that.

Don’t get the drop shiels calls. He was more than serviceable. The arguments that shiels is old so should be dropped are irrelevant when you have such a young 22. Should be dropping guys on performance or for team balance.

The bold call would be to drop chad for Breust and probably worpel for day (we have too many mids).

The even bolder call would be to not bring back BB and stick with the one ruck (if reeves pulls up okay).

Morrison is Timmy Clarke
In fairness, Morrison can kick much better than Clarke ever could. And Clarke was used until other players went way past him.

That hasn't happened with Morrison. Yet.

Not sure we have enough mids to be honest.

BB as sub?

I'd go in unchanged if you didn't have Day and Breust waiting in the wings.

However:
IN: Breust, McEvoy, Day
OUT: MacDonald, Lynch, Maginness

I think C-Mac and Finn are super stiff, but are both expendable to the class the guys above bring.

It won't happen, but I wouldn't be playing McEvoy personally if he wasn't the captain. I liked our team balance in the second half with Nashy in the ruck a lot.

Timmy Clarke was a guy who had some limitations but also huge strengths in stamina, following coach's orders. Essential ingredient for a building side

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. He went at 92% efficiency which would have to be close to career best. He also seemed to be playing a different role for periods of the game. More of a half forward.

Any South Aussies or members in general got a barcode or possibly two they're not going to use this weekend? Wanting to claim my free members ticket but don't really want to sit alone lol.

I thought MacDonald play better than Ward in the game against Kangas

You just reminded me; on Saturday at the game, I obviously had my Hawthorn Membership Card - not a membership card but a link that takes you to the Hawthorn FC website to download the app. My first surprise. What's the point of a card?!

Then secondly, having purchased a Hawthorn membership, at a home game one would assume you could sit in General Admission bays on the ground floor - only TWO bays were reserved for GA Hawthorn members. Otherwise you were asked to sit on Level 4! WTF.

Basically - reserved seat members, your card has a barcode that works. GA members not so much. Not sure why the club has gone down that route - maybe barcode printing prices were obscene this year?

Can't comment on the GA seat situation - whenever I have sat GA I have always been on level 4.
