I guess this is fair, but at the same time the slim chance to go 2-0 helps take a little pressure off us for the rest of the year and maybe the coaching staff can be a little more daring with selection or game plan over the course of the year because of it.
Or the pressure increases as finals loom for the first year coach.

Gee, tough selection headaches this week. I imagine Sam would LOVE to keep Finn in the side (I would too) - you just need to give him a crack to develop more confidence.

IN: McEvoy, Bruest
OUT: Lynch, (I don't know)

Then there's Will Day... it might be the easier choice to allow him another week at Box Hill so we don't have to omit one of the youngsters.

Ehhh, I dunno.

With Breust back, I would be thinking Chad rotates thru the midfield where he has played his best footy for Hawthorn.

Day must be handled for long term. 3/4 of game in 8 months is hardly preparation for a hostile Port at AO. Plays in the 2’s another week.

BB, Breust in for certain.
If Dixon gets up, Hartigan must play. DGB getting rag dolled by Goldy sticks in my mind. Still a twig.
I would like Howe in for Finn too.

Tough job picking the outs. Wait til Impey, Day and Bramble are fit..

I don't see any way that Worpel or Jaeger or Wingard get dropped, just no chance.

Coming in confirmed would be Big Boy for Lynch.

Breust will come in but will come in for a midfielder seeing as we had so many, two of Shiels, Nash or Maginness.

Day comes in and replaces another midfielder which evens structures.

I'd have Shiels going out but to 23rd player?, one of him Phillips or Nash/Maginness.

I'd have Nash going out purely because i don't see him doing any other role bar midfield or well, Maginness can go into the guts and had 0 CBAs last game, would give him more opportunity and he'd be able to show and use his versatility. His gut running and endurance capacity was huge in that win, he was still running around non stop and was hitting the ball hard, using his pace late in the game and it was awesome to watch.
IN:
Day, Breust, McEvoy.
OUT:
Shiels, Nash, Lynch (inj).

One of those 3 Shiels/Nash/Phillips as 23rd player.

IF Day is fit enough and checked off, he plays.

If not one of those mids stay in an extra week.

We had a heap of mids by design, not by accident.

It's hard to find a spot for BigBoy, Punky and Will.

B: Blake Hardwick, Sam Frost, Denver Grainger-Barras
HB: Changkuoth Jiath, James Sicily, Jack Scrimshaw
C: Josh Ward, Jai Newcombe, Tom Mitchell
HF: Chad Wingard, Dylan Moore, Luke Breust
F: Jack Gunston, Mitch Lewis, Ben McEvoy
R: Ned Reeves, Jaeger O'Meara, Conor Nash

Int from : Will Day, Liam Shiels, Harry Morrison, Connor Macdonald, Finn Maginness, James Worpel, Tom Phillips

Would like that bench to be Day, Morrison, Maginness, Worpel. Thoughts?
It's a good sign that we actually are going to have to leave some decent players out here, we haven't had depth for a while.

I like Howe, but with an eye on the future (which Sam is prioritising) is there much to gain by bringing him in at the expense of Maginness who just played his best game in the seniors?

Based on performance:

OUT - Worpel (WOG), Lynch (concussion)
IN - Breust, Big Boy

If Day is ready then someone will be unlucky. Maybe one of Ward, Phillips, Shiels or MacDonald, all of which did some nice things. Credit to them, Phillips was good when he came on and Shiels had a solid game.

Hopefully Wingard is fit enough so that with Breust coming back he can move into the middle.

Drop Nash? BWAHAHAHA.....that's a good one......oh you're serious. Really?!?

Had a much better game than Worpel. When the heat was on in the last he was one of Sam's go to players in the centre. And that was after having to cover the ruck.

We won the game because of the depth of our rotations.
There were a few players who played out of position where players could play that role better.

Shiels on a wing for example, think Day could come in and he/Jiath/Scrimshaw type could go to a wing and do it better.

Nash was decent in the guts but Maginness could probably do similar (It'd be a risk but) to get Breust back in forward which would release some class upfield in MacDonald and Wingard, it'd be worth it.

BB replaces Lynch
Breust replaces Shiels
Shiels replaces Phillips as sub
Chad to spend more time on midfield rotation.
Day given another week at BH to regain fitness

Toss up between Shiels and Finn to be left out but I see no point in omitting Finn after one game especially when he seemed to grow in confidence as the match went on

I can't see Worps being left out just yet. Give him an opportunity to turn it around. He would know he had a poor game

Thought he was pretty good, used his body well, didn't find much footy but his presence was big.

But tbh it's between him, Shiels and Maginness and Finn was just as instrumental, his gut running late in the game and through key moments was huge.
