Means a few things.

1. Top fantasy scorers are linking up well but it's breaking up after their possession

2. Hawthorn's defense was extremely well structured and countered every single Port attack

3. You were defending at ground level but Hawthorn were behind the ball and weren't really challenged once the clearance was won by Port

Huge structural breakdowns. That was as a comprehensive an out-coaching as I've seen. The stats you outline reflect a major coaching breakdown outside of the initial ball win.

I'm shocked for you. That was Melbourne circa 2013-esque. No offense.
We're not shocked at all. Ken can't coach, never has been able to.

So my day started at Dubai Terminal 3, huge lines etc due to school holidays and Europe opening up.
Our flight to Manila was then delayed for an hour.
Was resigned to not watching the game so was pretty happy when the Emirates Live tv channel was showing the AFL.
Game started during meal time so settled down with a curry and a beer.
It was all downhill from there…..

I’ve seen us put in some pretty insipid performances over the years but to “honour” our greatest player like this was as bad as the 07 GF if not worse.

So disillusioned with this performance both playing and coaching.
Sadly as we approach summer in Dubai I’ll probably watch as it’s too hot to do much outside.
However won’t be making much effort for the 2 weeks I’m on holidays here in the Philippines.

We also won a lot of midfield stats in 07 gf as well

A 23 year old ruckman with just 7 games managed to get more hit outs than Lycett. Hawthorn won the taps 53 to 29. It is not Scott Lycett's fault, Lycett did pretty well around the ground but he is battling against two genuine ruckmen. He needs better support than Jermey Finlayson. The opposition Coaches have worked us out.

Unfortunately whatever game style he did have is now extremely outdated.
Has never had a functional game style.

2013 and 2014 was Burgess, Richo and Walsh. Its no coincidence two of them were involved in a premiership outfit last year, and the third pushed a list of plodders up the ladder to the point where after he passed they made it all the way to a GF.

2020 and 2021 was Schofield, Monty and Voss (as senior assistant, the correct role for him), pure and simple. Those three were good enough that they could carry the bumbling mess of Hinkley and Bassett. Now 2 of those 3 are gone and he is exposed in the same way we were in 2015-2019.

Wunderbar performance. Vintage stuff. Absolutely astonishing.

We've forfeited any rights we thought we had of wearing the PB's again.

Silver and teal chevrons forever for the Port Adelaide Princesses.

Play the kids and consign ANY players who aren't 100% committed, no matter what their names are, to Magpies level.

Rather be thumped watching blokes who aren't up to standard play their hearts out than watching blokes with the ability get thumped not trying.

A few weeks back Tom Jonas was telling us that the Port players had learned a lot from the 71 point hammering at the hands of Western Bulldogs in last years Prelim. 'Memories like goldfish' is the way Tom put it. A 64 point loss in our next game at Adelaide Oval suggests Tom might have been mistaken. An accumulative deficit of 135 points in consecutive AFL games at Adelaide Oval must be close to more 'history in the making'. Here is what Tom had to say...

Ah well as Eric Idle once sang, we should always look on the bright side of life as we are getting better. Last year it was a 71 point thrashing, last night it was only 64 points.

In consecutive weeks we have managed just 1.6 in two last quarters. Our ability to run out games has to be a concern but then again Ken doesn't seem too worried about the other glaring problems so why worry about that? Come to think of it we have only kicked 1.4 in two opening quarters. Cannot start well and and cannot finish well things don't go much more pear shaped than that.

Since 2010 only 3 sides have made finals after starting 0-2.

2022 over already. Bloody weird feeling.

Pardon the interruption. My mob made Finals after an infamous Owen-6 start in 2017.

All is by no means lost for PAFC. Every decent team chucks in a diabolical performance every now and then. You guys have had yours. Even missing Allir, Dixon and others, Port have had yours. Better times ahead.

Making finals isn't a 'win'.

It's winning the flag or nothing, and since since we've completely capitulated to the pressure of a prelim, and honouring our greatest ever player in our last two home games, we ain't winning the flag.

So what's the point? The coach is a fraud. All his success has been driven by assistants, and it reverts to the same shite as soon as they leave. See 2015/16 post Richardson & Walsh.

It's time for change, not meaningless 'it could be worse'.

Finlayson is a lazy footballer. Marshall is not talented but at least he tries. Finlayson dropped his head tonight and from what you hear about him from GWS attitude was a big problem.

Sinn had an awful game and if we are serious about winning then he shouldn't play, someone like Frederick deserves more of a shot. Early days but not sure you can justify giving up pick 16 2021+ pick 19 2022 + Ladhams for him.

How is it that middle of the road Melbourne based clubs can suddenly find all the right answers? Western Bulldogs, Melbourne and even though it is early days it looks like Hawthorn and Carlton have suddenly moved from 'also rans' to contenders in 2022. in the case of Hawthorn and Carlton a new coach appears to be part of the deal. Maybe there is a message there for Mr Sunrise, David Koch?

These days I find myself sitting watching Melbourne, Hawthorn and Carlton play and think to myself why can't Port play like that? These teams actually focus on moving the ball downfield to a leading player rather than playing a possession based game handballing around in circles and kicking across ground. Of course it gets back to Hinkley's outdated game plan. Hinkley's game plan is similar to the one used by Mick Malthouse when he coached Collingwood to it's last premiership in 2010. Hinkley picked it up when he started coaching and the plan has not changed save for an enlightened season in 2014.

It is hard to fathom what happened in 2015 and how we reverted from the fast direct style of 2014 to our current convoluted game plan but I think Sleezy may be on the money as 2015 coincides with the time Phil Walsh left and Hinkley was on his own.

Geez.
I woke up.
Remembered we had lost.
Thought “meh.”
In years gone past it would have ruined my weekend and my week.
Yet this morning I feel nothing.
Imagine if Vossy and Nicks go past us, and all those clubs sitting at the bottom in previous years while we remain “also ran’s”
The AFL doesn’t give a stuff about us anyway. That is clear.
I was annoyed we couldn’t wear the PBs for Ebert’s game, but now I am glad. It was a disgrace to Ebert’s memory and it would be an insult to the PB’s.

Ah well, might not even watch the game next week. Don’t even know who we’re playing.
