Unofficial Preview 2022 Mid-Season Rookie Draft

I think lachlan Tardrew would be in the squad this week if he was available.
Came to say the same. Just saw him in a lot of the c brown training footage. If we were looking at a mature age utility with leadership credentials you'd be hard pressed to find a better option than tardrew, would love for us to pick him up as a rookie or in the mid season draft. I daresay in the event of needing to activate covid emergencies he'd be among the first picked.

Sadly with Johnson looking like he be out for sometime it means we have a Pick in the Mid-Season Draft
Not all bad news. Could be an opportunity. Unfortunately, with our record, we could have a lot more selections picks up plank of wood.

The 2022 Mid-Season Rookie Draft will be held on Wednesday, 1 June with the same rules as last year (see article below).

When do we know if we have any selections in the draft? Do we need a long term injury? Would Murphy's qualify?

I've been thinking we need to bolster our inside midfielder stocks and intercept or general defenders which look kinda thin.

We've picked up Noble (2019) Johnson and Begg (2021) so have made good use of it recently.

Who would you like us to look at?

You take best available every day of the week. No point taking an inside mid if that play ends up a Danny Stanley type clone

I don't think we will be eligible to take a player in the mid-season draft unless we have a player retire or someone ruled out for the rest of the season with a long-term injury (not just an 8-week injury). Johnson's injury may well be serious, but the MSD is almost two months away, and hopefully he won't be out for too long.

Hope Not but Looked Really Bad

From what I can see, not one of those LTI players played a game after the MSD (many of them missed the whole year), so picking up a player in that draft would mean we'd have to write someone off for the year. Hopefully that doesn't have to happen with Johnson or anybody else!

With Elliott's shoulder potentially being a 3 month spell on the sidelines, we're getting close

Not sure that this is as important to us as in previous years?

We‘re now in full rebuild mode, so it’s our up and comping players who should be pushing for selection rather than needing mature top-ups (Noble, Johnson) although naturally you never pass up the opportunity to get early access to a late developer (Begg)

Ok Jye Menzie is now taking the piss.

17 disposals and 6.1 as an electric small crumbing forward for South Adelaide.

Exactly the player we would be looking to snag in the mid season draft.

Mitch O’Neill still staring too with 29 disposals and 1.2.

It's not so important until we have a pick in the draft. If we end up with a pick, my view is you can't be dismissive of any opportunities to draft players and improve the list. Some guys that would have been available in a MSD include Sam Mitchell, Tim Kelly, Sam Collins, Dane Rampe, Brody Mihocek, Harry Taylor and there'd be others. Identifying and selecting someone of similar ilk fast tracks a rebuild.

Maybe this is Keitels year? Hammelman is worth consideration.

Wouldn’t have thought either will come into consideration personally.

Even the Eagles didn’t select Kietel to play even when they were truely smashed by Covid (despite having trained with them).

Also if Hammelmann wasn’t able to get picked up after performances in the VFL, I’m not sure playing in the QAFL and being a year older will help.

Maybe not but I think they should be considered.

There must be something about Keitel that sees him overlooked year after year in the drafts (fair chance the recruiters just don't think he's any good!), but the same could have been said of Mihocek a few years back! He's 26 so he doesn't have a lot of time up his sleeve.

Tyler Keitel was claimed by Fremantle as a top-up player for this season (he trained with them in the pre-season as well). It looks like a draft of sorts was held with the two WA clubs participating, and that both clubs were able to pre-claim two players from each of four clubs (NGA Club Selection). Keitel was one of two West Perth players the Dockers took.
