Time for the famous 2022 Brett Ratten half time rev up. Our third quarter efforts in the first 8-10 weeks were absolutely superb. There's no reason why we can't do the same tonight.

So on the Jones comments, had SFA to kick to, first one was Ming + Butts v 4 from a quick clearance set up, second was a quick exit from D50 and both were to a contest, but with this one Higgo slipped on his arse going for a shallow ball to an uncontested mark instead.

That's not on Jones, that's on others up ahead for not spreading, for not working back, for being out of position for whatever reason. Jones is in the side to compliment Gresh in that midfield because otherwise you have Steele, Crouch and Ross who are all largely same pace and cop contact as opposed to "burst" through said contact.

Defensively, Battle having a mare, Dougs playing loose, Wilkie playing mop up, doing well just because of weight of numbers but that will lessen as the game goes on so Battle needs to a lift a bit. On the Motlop thing though with him, tiggy touchwood hand in the back as Motlop strutted through Hunter with his right hand there to stabilise himself, but still, shouldn't have really been prone to begin with.
Agree.. Battle is miss judging the ball a lot tonight.. and missing tackles.. Doogs is doogs.. a mistake waiting to happen..

Exactly, we still make stupid decisions in defence, like

1. Hill spoiling Clark when he needs to be there for the crumbs..

2. Pushing up too much when it’s obvious you are not going to touch the ball.. just end up leaving their next man open.. You need smart footballers to do good pressing.. only go at the right moment and know when not too.. I don’t think our players has been taught that.. looks like they just go trying to push up when if it’s not necessary.
Number of times we have fallen into their overlap, player running up to ball carrier instead of letting player come up to tackle from behind and stop their overlap. Also too many getting sucked into contest leaving outside exposed.

We don't seem to block very much for each other either - Seb, Jones and Billings all were in situations they should have blocked for the ball carrier and instead stood outside to receive.

Playing well overall tho - midfield is working. Need to keep up the variety we are getting forward.

Smash em Saints!!
