Darcy Gardiner? Strikes me more as a second fiddle though.

This issue is our late/Rookie picks. We keep taking the solid players in positions we already have and not getting KPP or small forward types with the potential to develop that are harder to identify that we are clearly lacking.

This goes back to internal alignment and having a comprehensive plan across the club - which I don’t think we have

Dion Prestia is the closest comparison to a Dunkley trade I can think of. Prestia was just a year younger when traded. Dunkley's already kicked more goals in his career and is superior player to him statistically at the same time in their careers.

Prestia was traded for pick 6 and a future 2nd rounder for pick 24. We should really be asking for something similar at the very least.

We certainly need to do some solid trades this year. We need some quality in defence and up forward, plus we need to address the ruck help. Not sure if Lobb is the answer but if the club isn't careful we will shut our window on finals and a flag if we don't improve the quality across the whole list.
Mostly we need to have a game plan that offers space in our forward line instead of the opposition.

Yep sounds about right. Lachie Neale was pretty similar too, went for picks 6, 19, 55 with 30 going out with him.

Still hope Dunks stays though

We'll chase a bunch of decent defenders and probably end up with Zerk-Thatcher or some other "okish 2nd banana"

Bloke on the right is a KPD I believe, and a solid citizen, so you're spot on there Mofra.

I'd steer clear of the one on the left though - has the right build to play KPP, but also well-known attitude problems, known to party like a young
Jake Carlisle.

I don't see us getting 2 first rounders for Dunkley. That was our asking price 2 years ago due to him being contracted and us not wanting to trade for anything less. Now that he's out of contract, one first rounder is all we could hope for.

I also think he's gone. The boy wants to get paid and having a friendship with Treloar doesn't mean you sign for unders. Treloar himself moved to the Pies from his first club on a lucrative deal.

Good player and would certainly be missed, but if Essendon or Hawthorn come knocking with pick 3, we'd have to do it.
I can’t see rebuilding clubs giving us high end first round picks like 3.

We are not that far off and won't need to give up much to make a decent list reset happen. If we can bring in Rory Lobb and Taylor Walker it would gives us the flexibility to do a lot - like send Naughton to CHB. If we could get someone else like Payne, McGovern or find a state league player to stand up (e.g. Schlensog) then we are back in the window.

Walker is a free agent.
Lobb is not going to cost much.
Give up 2022 and 2023 second rounder for McGovern. Maybe a bit less for Payne.

KPF: Walker, Bruce, JUH
KPD: Naughton, Keath, Payne

It would be awesome. Neverthless, a list reset is absolutely necessary.

It has to be acknowledged that Schache, Gardner, Scott and [insert player here] and a few other 15-22 players aren't going to get us across the line.

A couple of new coaches. Backline and senior assistant to help Bevo.

I think if we can get a top 10 pick for Dunkley, we take it. We need to use it properly though.

Balta anyone? Richmond are still playing him as a swing man. Wasted.
I’d give our first + Dunkley for Gibcus but he and/or Balta are untouchables.

If he is swing man at Richmond imagine him at the Dogs he would play all positions in a quarter of football.

OK. Maybe Walker is not the right player. But the point holds. Only 2-3 players of the right type in and we look completely different.

And we don't need to lose Dunkley for it to happen.

I know what you are saying mate and I agree - we're not that far off - but Walker isn't the right guy. We do need some more speed in midfield somewhere, to enable us to put more pressure on the opposition as they try to transition from defence - that will also help our defensive structure.

I am not sure the midfield is where we need further investment. We need quality talls across the park.

I am sorry, but Schache ain't it. Garnder is nothing more than a trier and we lack a third big bodied player down back. O'Brien is not the answer.

Bruce back will help, JUH will have another pre-season under his belt. Darcy will need time.

The ball just waltzed out on Thursday, I was there and watching it. We were nowhere near quick enough to react and close down space and options. Our midfield is good - when it's on their terms. But with Smith out - and Richards and a few others - we do not put enough pressure on the ball carrier. Bont, Dunkley, Macrae, Libba, Hunter - they aren't quick off the first few yards. Yes - they cover ground and work hard - but not real speed at the opposition.

I'm not talking about investing big bucks in a trade - I'm all for refinement and tweaking. VDM would be ideal - if he wasn't made of the same biscuits as Tom Williams.

Walker for nothing… and people are saying no? he’s a better forward than Naughto.

Bruce gets #2, Mara/Darcy gets #3 and we get Naughton as CHB to fix the giant defensive hole that’s preventing us from being a top 4 team. Keath takes the 2nd defender and Gardner takes the third. All of a sudden things look a lot better. Naughto can get back to the forward line when the pups are mature and we find 2 quality KPDs
