It’s not all Bevo but he’s a big part of it. Rohan smith is the defensive coach. I’d hope he’s copping some heat internally.
Our backline used to be our biggest strength.

Bevo was the defensive coach at Hawthorn during their big years.

Sam Power might not be doing the amazing job we had hoped?

We certainly need to do some solid trades this year. We need some quality in defence and up forward, plus we need to address the ruck help. Not sure if Lobb is the answer but if the club isn't careful we will shut our window on finals and a flag if we don't improve the quality across the whole list.

Hmm not sure. Maybe harsh on Power- he’s been pretty amazing. Darcy and JUH have unfortunately kept our hands tied a little. We won’t see the benefits of those two for at least another 1-2 years imo. It’s hindered our chances of bringing in a gun key back.

In saying that, even if we had a Darcy Moore or a Weitering in our back 6, I still think they’d struggle a little in our system and would get caught out in shocking spots when the opposition are on the counter. I hate how we setup.

What do you mean about th set up?

Yeah you're right. Just a frustrating position to be in after last year.

We are losing the best years of the best midfield the dogs have seen.

What do you mean about th set up?

We push up so high to defend the ground when the balls in our fwd 50 but as soon as a side is out and has beaten the press, we are fu**ed.

I hate our use of the man on the mark as it opens the ground up for the opposition and doesn’t help our backline. How many times did the lions just go chip chip chip to inside 50 on the Thursday with ease?

The amount of times we have 2-3 defenders go up to spoil in the air in D50, leaving opposition players at ground level alone is staggering.

It has to be structure. I can’t think of the amount of times I’ve seen Keath, O’Brien or Gardiner completely out of position in a marking contest.
Look at our forward entries vs the oppositions. Clog vs space, every week.

Would it be worth getting Liam Jones as a cost free option? Obviously plays FB okay and would be desperate to play again.
Age might mean 1-2 years only
He wouldn't want to come back. It's always a mistake to go back, anywhere.

Surely it's time to pull the trigger on trading our first picks away for some established A graders? Dunks is clearly gone so potential to have 3 first round picks we can use for currency?

where do you get 3 first rounds?

Agree Dunks looks like he will want out what do you think we get for him?

Our obsession of holding onto the first rounders baffles me we have the young group of core players under 25 and the other core players in their prime now is the time to go and spend these first round picks on players that can plug the holes we have

It's overs paying a first but geez our team would look better with a Ben McKay down back & Rory Lobb up forward..

Lobb won't involve our 1st.

In 2019 we got the two players we were after in trade as well as keeping our first. 2020 and 2021 we had very promising KPPs fall into our laps. When was the last time we used our first rounder in the draft when an obvious trade was needed ad didn't happen?

I don't see us getting 2 first rounders for Dunkley. That was our asking price 2 years ago due to him being contracted and us not wanting to trade for anything less. Now that he's out of contract, one first rounder is all we could hope for.

I also think he's gone. The boy wants to get paid and having a friendship with Treloar doesn't mean you sign for unders. Treloar himself moved to the Pies from his first club on a lucrative deal.

Good player and would certainly be missed, but if Essendon or Hawthorn come knocking with pick 3, we'd have to do it.

Lobby is a 30 year old salary dump for Freo to grab Jackson. No first required.

We've chased Ben McKay every time he's been out of contact. I expect we miss out again.

We'll chase a bunch of decent defenders and probably end up with Zerk-Thatcher or some other "okish 2nd banana"

This issue is our late/Rookie picks. We keep taking the solid players in positions we already have and not getting KPP or small forward types with the potential to develop that are harder to identify that we are clearly lacking.

This is what I don't get. I think it would be far better to leave a list spot open then pick a player we don't need. Invite a few players to train with us over summer. Even if we don't pick them, invite them to play at our reserves team and leave a spot open for the mid season draft.

Parker, McComb, Raak this year
Butler, Scott and keeping Roarke the year before
Cavarra, Hayes Young the year before that.

In that time we could've gotten
Wilkie, Strachan, Butts, Koschitzke, Frederick, Jeka, Ginnivan

Ding Dong Bell has a track record of making life very difficult where he has leverage. Lobb’s their leading goalkicker this year and still under contract. Even if they’re getting Jackson I don’t think it’ll make things easier, as he’ll try and squeeze us for every drop he can to grease the Jackson trade wheel.

I’ll be pleasantly surprised if Dunkley isn’t gone. Imagine big money and a big midfield role would be very appealing. Late first rounder is my guess at the best we’d get.

Late first at best? Rubbish

Should be a decent first rounder at the minimum

if we can turn the loss of Dunkley into a KPD and Lobb WGAF what we get for him
