Great summary scoman, adding to that their ages as of the start of the 2023 season >
Angus Brayshaw - 27.
Jacob Hopper - 26.
Josh Dunkley - 26.
Brandan Parfitt - 24.

If we had the luxury of a choice I'd go Brayshaw.

Some other midfield options that we could look out(according to footywire they are OOC) -

Riley Collier-Dawkins - 191cm, 90kg, 23 years old.
Blake Acres - 189cm, 91kg, 27 years old.
Alex Davies - 191cm, 85kg, 21 years old.
Tim Taranto - 188cm, 89kg, 25 years old.
Acres has well established himself on the wing at Freo. Probably unobtainable at the moment

I like the glimpses of Davies. Hasnt probably stood out massively, but at the same time is starting to get caught out in a glut of mids at Gold Coast. Like GWS we should be looking at them and whether any can be pried out.

Maybe not this year but if we are looking at Gold Coast options, maybe someone like Elijah Hollands (189cm/86kg) could be another midfield option that’s been stuck in the VFL level from the glut of mids over there (OOC 2024), and has the capacity to partner with J.Berry as our big-bodied/long-kicking midfielders for us, alongside our future small midfield brigade in Neale, McCluggage, Ashcrofts (Will/Levi) & Fletcher, while also being handy in the forward/midfield rotations as well with Rayner & Bailey.

I'd forgotten about Hollands. Was he coming off a knee in his draft year? Seemed so happy just to be drafted, seemed like a good kid

Have no idea on his form in the VFL

Found some general stats around his VFL form over the past 2 years and seems like he has averaged about 20-odd disposals and 1 goal a game, which is very reasonable given his age and playing role at the club.

Also has a similar personality to Rayner (go happy spirit) as such so he would fit pretty nicely at our club and the culture around it as well.

The one player my son in particular has liked the looks of is Brodie from Dockers - ex Suns boy - no way am I saying for us to get him more observing as to the type of player I wished we had recruited -a tall mid type player which I think our small mids lack.

The big kno

The big knock on Brodie early in his career was his ability to run both ways and get to multiple stoppages.

I’m fully expecting GC to try and draft Hollands brother this year. He’s an outside mid, good kick, and could possibly play wing.

Gold Coast have quite a few talented academy kids coming through in the next two years. So there’s going to be a squeeze on.

I would have expected them to go for Busslinger or another key defender. That's the one big hole on their list going forward.

I think in order to add players we have to substract some key pieces from the squad I would trade zac bailey, deven and a 1st round pick for JHF and LDU.

Have been unsure about the best spots for JBez and Hugh but I feel that they give more as our wingers. Therefore our inside midfield is the greatest need. Have added players out of contract in 2023.

2022
Brandon Parfitt
Josh Dunkley

2023
Cooper Stephens
Jacob Hopper
Luke Davies-Uniacke
James Worpol
Sam Powell-Pepper

Buddy's a real chance to wind up playing for a QLD club it now seems. On record it's always been his goal to move to either WA or QLD to be closer to his parents or parents in-law.

Hope we aren't considering him.

I figure he is a good fit for a team currently contending. We aren't, until we get the midfield sorted. Would sck up resources we need to chase midfielders

100% NO for me on Buddy as well, he is 36 before the start of next season and from reports the reason he might leave the Swans is that they are low balling his $$$ so he wouldn't come cheap.

$500K is lowballing LOL Not sure his manager is on top of his game (the manager's) at the moment

If Dan goes and they want to keep 3 talls.. 1-2 Buddy years not be a problem
I rather we try get Jack Gunston for 3-4 years, as it would probably cost heaps less, in terms of salary cap and trade wise for us, especially if we are trying to calculate points for Ashcroft & Fletcher at draft night.

I would love to see Buddy in a Lions jumper. Just for fun haha.

Yep, pay him for 2 years if Dan goes. Daniher and Buddy together can drive us crazy.

These big-money players lose perspective I feel.....$500,000 a year in anyone's language is a massive amount to be earning.

It's not like Buddy has earned a pittance these last years, would have to have a few mil tucked away already.
