I can understand that. I guess everyone kind of assumes he would be an A Grade inside mid. He hasn't had the opportunity to prove or disprove that though, so there is a risk. You would hope if we do manage to convince him to come he would be burning with the desire to prove himself in that role.
He finished 3rd in the Brownlow in 2018, playing mid.

I’m pretty sure he’s had the opportunity to prove he can be an A grade mid.

Who's better Tom Green or Gus Brayshaw?

I get they have Petracca and Oliver but why is Gus not playing in the middle after those two? If he’s the two way tough mid surely he complements those two perfectly. Also at the time that 3rd place Brownlow finish was a complete shock to everyone, wasn’t even invited to the presentation. Not saying he didn’t have a good season but that wasn’t a usual 3rd place Brownlow finish.

That third was kind of like Rocky’s third in 2013, very unexpected. Anyone who watched that year had Gawn and probably Oliver as better players that season.

Viney doesn't really have a second position whereas Brayshaw can have an impact on the wing or now HB.

Hasn’t played any midfield though has he? Not even as a rotation?
I don’t think he’d be a bad pick up at the right price but I don’t think he’d have the impact you’d expect someone on $750K+ should have.

Not this year that I can recall but they don't need to. Their midfield is strong enough that they have the luxury of playing Brayshaw at halfback and he's had a very good season there. Doesn't mean he wouldn't be able to impact in the midfield if played there though. Hewett at Carlton used to get thrown around the ground a bit and most of the time he spent in the midfield at the Swans he seemed to be be a hard tagger. He's flourished moving to a new team for a full time midfield role. Brayshaw has shown he can play great when played in the midfield and we could certainly use his two way running ability there. He has a bonus with some positional flexibility too though I'd want him to be a full time mid. I think he'd be a really good pick up for us.

I think Logue is unlikely because his manager is Colin Young so very likely he leaked the story, but if we got Logue I don’t care about the impact on Payne.
Yes I know you don't. You have made it obvious in a number of post, that Payne would arguably be the player on our list you dislike or rate the least. Trying to justify why you dislike him so much;
Can't be because of his clangers as Adams and Gardner average more per game,
Can't be because of his DE as that is better than Adams and Gardiner.
Can't be because of his 1 v 1 work, as no one has ever kicked a bag on him.
Can't be because he is not showing improvement each opportunity he gets, having played only 19 or 20 games, after having his development interrupted by injuries etc.
Can't be because he is slow and is a liability, is probably our fastest tall, and can play on talls and mid-talls.
Can't be because he can't kick a goal going forward as he did against Hawkes late in the game.
Can't be because Lions wasted a pick on him in 2017 draft, as he was a late third rounder, not a first rounder.

However your entitled to your opinion. Whilst Payne probably won't be a superstar, why don't you judge him after he has had 55 or so games like Logue and is 24 years of age as is Logue. Logue was also a top 10 draft pick in his draft year

True. I guess there are options there. I would certainly feel more comfortable about our list if we did add someone like Logue or Fogarty though.

We would need to add another tall regardless of who it is though for a bit of list balance. We are a bit light on for tall cover already apart from rucks/ ruck forwards. It could be a kid or a mature age option from our VFL side or another club, even the SANFL or WAFL. Doesn't have to be a best 22 I guess.
Don't disagree, just think Logue is probably not available, and for the sake of the speculation, if he was, what is the cost? Being a top 10 draft pick would likely not be cheap. Do we need three forwards next year? If we get beat in the semi's again and don't make a Prelim, then perhaps moving forward we play slightly smaller up front and or go with 2 rucks.

I’d take Tom he’s a lot younger Brayshaw also isn’t a proven inside midfielder
I too would prefer Tom, of the two, but Brayshaw might just allow Starc (I know controversial) to push into the midfield. Some experimenting next year and a couple of preseasons training in the mids, and I think Starc could be a good midfield player for us in a couple of years. He is tough, he is skilful, and importantly he has some speed. He is also a good defender, so would likely embrace the hard two way running we are currently missing in the centre. Also think Berry (if shoulder holds up) after his game against the Dogs showed he might be a decent inside mid.

I’ve also said I’d prefer logue over Gardiner too. This particular opinion isn’t really anti-Payne so much as pro-Logue.

I would have thought that after 67 pages we've reached the epi-Logue?

Curious… thoughts on Patty Dow being a two way running mid? Hasn’t shown a heap as of yet but undeniably has talent! I wonder if a change of scenery would work wonders for him!

Bradshaw doesn’t play mid due to the many concussions he had . Doctors warned him he is probably 1 or 2 concussions away from having to retire.

If Zorko had have commented, would it have been a captain's Logue?
HMMM
On Kirk drift, the strange mass cultural misremembering of Captain ...
