Hilarious that some ppl actually are trying to defend this mess 😂😂😂
I don't think they are defending it at all but surely there comes a point when this isn't dragged up every twelve months by Sen for a ratings increase. We all know this camp was a stupid idea by Burton and Pyke and implemented by a group in Collective Minds that weren't qualified. Should the club also sack everyone at the club who had nothing to do with it as well? Should they hand in their licence? The club sacked those involved and apologised for the camp. If you have an employee that has very poor judgement and makes poor decisions surely their removal from the club is the correct course of action. Could this have been handled better between Betts and the club? Yes it could have but the club has taken onboard the necessary changes that needed to take place just as Collingwood has done so there needs to come a point where this is left in the past where it belongs.

I guess we will find out in the next 24 hours.

The rumours (which may have been leaked by Betts himself) have now been publicly endorsed by a player who was there (Betts).
The media will be ringing every other past player to see what they have to say. Sloane will be asked. Walker will be asked. Jenkins will be asked. They will all have to either confirm that what Betts said is true, or call him a liar.

Going to be interesting.

My gut feel is that what Betts has said is true.

I am intrigued that there was supposedly as Non-disclosure agreement signed by all the players. Did Eddie refuse? Is he breaking it?

i don’t see why betts would lie, and everything he said either coincides with initial rumours or relates to what we may have suspected

Why would no one among the playing group have stood up and said Hang on...?
This is the thing that frustrates me. OK, I'm coming at it from the pov of an older bloke with perhaps more life experience / ability to assert myself, but if my employer had put me through something like that, I'd be curling my lip and saying "sorry, this is crap, not doing it".

- I guess that would make me a wimp of insufficient masculinity, in their eyes :) when maybe it just means I'm a mature human being.

Reading the article through my general thoughts are it's disappointing we subjected a genuine champion of our club and the game to that level of incompetent management.

No, the AFL Integrity dept found nothing and nor did we breach the WHS Act. Can’t get bigger sign-offs than that. Campo, Burto and Pyko all just left of their own accord. Was a raging success.

Kind regards
Jen, BACCS & Kristof

The stuff specifically that CM said Eddie couldn't be a good dad because of his mum - I haven't seen that anywhere.

Well dang! It all went South from there.
Someone rang SEN yesterday and said he can't wait to read Bryce Gibbs book because he said that he had been on worse camps on this one.

Mr "I need all my facts before I can voice an opinion on Ken Hinkley" Cornes said that players were split into different groups so Gibbs may not have been in the same group as the leaders.

But here he is with Tex, Sloane, Talia, Pyke ...

Is Sloane, as Captain of the club, the leader of the players, or a shrill for the organisation?

His comments and behaviour suggest one over the other.
I think he should have spoken up internally, and I suspect he didn't. What he should have said publicly is more difficult. I wouldn't expect him, or any player, to say "yeah, it was crap for a few players", but think he went a bit OTT the other way.

Only thing I hadn't heard of was him being dropped from the leadership group for complaining, which going by what I've heard about Burton doesn't surprise me in the least.

And it’s that kind of stuff that is the real issue. Mistakes can be made, we we’re definitely sailing close to the wind with these guys, so you need to be equipped to handle it if it goes wrong. And we absolutely weren’t and made it much much worse. That’s the crime, not the camp shenanigans themselves.

That idiot answered his own question.

SafeWork investigate breaches of the act, they don’t investigate incompetence, stupidity and whether or not you want to be a loser.

The Adelaide Football Club might not have broken any laws but it was definitely incompetent, stupid, and full of losers.

There’s no doubt Eddie has a book to sell. So we shouldn’t forget that.

But regardless of whether he’s putting mayo on it, that camp and everything the club did in response, including the way it ran its PR, was one of the worst displays of incompetence you could ever see from a professional organization.

All of this happened because the coaching staff were arrogant enough to think the 2017 GF debacle was none of their doing.

It was the players who were mentally weak, not the blessed coaching staff. They were just fu*cking perfect.
End of the day it killed team chemistry in a Premiership Window.

Dumb, dumb, dumb.

FWIW I have heard that Roo no longer has much involvement at the club. Like any Board member he is now at arms length of day to day activities.

During this era he and Chapman were at the club daily. Roo was essentially Footy Manager with Burton.

Lets take it as fact that these events are true. What was the board of directors doing at the time? Surely someone in management was whispering to the board about what was going on in 2017 and preseason 2018, and it seems they did nothing until the onfield performance started going backwards and the media was chirping about the camp.

They most probably would have gone to Roo who wouldn’t have the brains or inclination to pass it on to someone who would.

It’s not that difficult to understand.

Every player has different pressure points. Some players respond to the stick, others to the carrot.

It is on the coaches to figure out who is who and tailor their approach accordingly so you get the best out of each individual, and ultimately, the team.

This is f*cking coaching 101.

It is obvious just from a casual observer’s perspective that Eddie is a bloke firmly in the carrot category. You don’t use the Ron Barassi approach on him — it’s not going to work. You’ll crush his spirit.

I’ve never even met the guy and I can figure that out just from watching and listening to him.

But apparently, our coaching staff weren’t across this.

And for that — f*ck them.

You would think CM would customise the approach for each player as well.

Seems they didn't.

"Fair to say the horrors of the infamous Adelaide training camp, written about in graphic detail here, tore the club apart. But at the end, Bryce Gibbs said he'd been on "a lot worse camps" at Carlton. Whaaat!? https://theage.com.au/sport/afl/inside-the-camp-that-brought-down-the-adelaide-crows-20200630-p557od.html"

Quick, call McClure. He'd want to get to the bottom of that wouldn't he?

Sarcasm intended.

Meanwhile the Victorian clubs have players breaking laws Clubs being questionable regarding player/parent payments etc. etc. every year but let's deflect and return to a camp that was nearly five years ago has been investigated and cleared.

It sounds like aspects of the camp were extremely questionable no doubt.

Betts and Jenkins were seeing the end of their careers.

Betts now wants to sell a book the sales will now go through the roof.

All hired under the stewardship of most of the current board. That’s where the broom is required.
There has been a fair bit of turnover of our Board since this.

Roo, Fellows, Roo appointed before 2017

Ellis and Fennell during 2017.

The rest post 2017, most in the last two years.
