Hinkley is an oddity of life. Has had ok results as a coach which would make you think he's a great communicator - until you hear him speak.

If I am really honest Hinkley would not be a preferred option for mine. I don't tend to like those that decline to interview with us, which Hinkley did previously.

I reckon getting his deputies and finalising which coaches go. Any of the current coaches who don’t clap Al as he does a lap of honour in a Mazda pre Gold Coast game , pretty certain they won’t be here next yr

I’d like it to be announced prior to the end of the season. That we either have him or we are out and have a process that can just click into place with candidates.

I have a total of zero desire to be even remotely close to the trade eon with no coach.

Given our "all in" approach, we need to announce the outcome before finals I'd say. If it's Clarkson, great. If not, it gives us the month of September to interview the others, so that we can finalize the whole thing before the trade period.

Hinkley was zoned to Fitzroy as a Hampden League player, played a handful of games for the club, where he showed a bit and then walked out, I think from memory because he did not want to live in Melbourne. Perhaps his real motive might have been that Fitzroy was struggling and Geelong were going okay, which I don't think says much for him, but that may be wrong and unfair to him on my part.

Ultimately ended up at Geelong where he had a very good career as an unaccountable half back, but in walking out on Fitzroy, left a sour taste in my mouth for one. I would suspect other old Royboys and Roygirls might have similar feelings.

Nothing to do with his ability to coach, obviously, but I would find it hard to warm to him if he ultimately got the gig.

The football media and all the team based commentators could not get any more obvious in their intentions. Since Noble left and Clarkson appeared getable we have had a consistent message of why Ross Lyon and even more obviously Ken Hinkley and Adam Simpson would be great gets for North Melbourne. They may as well post a press release saying that they'd prefer we didn't get Clarkson because we don't deserve it and other more worthy teams should get him.

When was the last time a coaching role was available and you had two senior coaches - still with their current clubs - being thrown forward as options for that role whilst an extremely credentialled experienced and successful coach was between gigs? The answer is f**king never as it only happens when we are involved.

These pricks don't want us to get him.
They want us to continue to be irrelevant.
They want other more "important" teams to get the best coach available.
There must be a shadow of doubt in the back of their minds that a gun coach might turn this club around and actually provide competition for their rightful place as premiers.

Screw them all, we are coming, we will hit them hard.

Also, I think it is clear that this thread should now be officially rather than just unofficially a Simpsons meme only zone as it has been trending towards. I'd consider allowing Futurama memes though in addition due to similar art style and origins and also funny as ****.

Spot on. I've got a lot of North mates that aren't on bigfooty. They seem completely oblivious to so much of what is happening at the club. I often wonder why I do it to myself

I think KIA34 definitely thinks/knows it really, actually is a real chance to happen. However, that’s never going to be good enough for us not ITK’s. We’ve been disappointed on too many occasions in the past. I have a side door to ITK and heard positive news on the “Clarkson to North” front yesterday. So, at the very least, my level of confidence is above what it was for Kelly, Gaff and Dusty. Having said that, I’ll maintain my doubting Thomas stance until the official announcement.
