Centre bounce contest was so much better, even against the opposition premium ruckman.

We lacked speed in the centre for a month now, that's why putting Docherty in to change things abit was an instant success.
Credit to Voss, finally changed it up and it worked a lot better. Setters and doc were fantastic in there

A genuine four quarter effort and we lose.

Not gonna harp on about the execution and mistakes, plenty have done that already.

Thought Gov was brilliant (Melksham lack of spoil aside).

Thought Stocker showed last year’s form for the first time.

Thought Cotts was amazing on Langdon. Apart from one arsey goal he completely nullified him. He needs to be given these sorts of roles.

And Mr Last Chance Saloon Setters played a blinder on Oliver. Do we keep him?

Anyway, they left it all out there and that’s all we can ask for.

Truth is, Collingwood are no good. And I don’t give a s**t about their 11 in a row. Mostly bottom sides and plenty of luck.

We should crush them next week. If we can’t beat them, we don’t belong in the finals anyway.
Should we? Depends which Carlton turns up, Carlton vs Adelaide and Brisbane and this week's Carlton? Big difference.

Now a serious comment. That was gutting. My son in tears and I couldn't console him because I was feeling worse. Perhaps the hawks will come up for us next Sunday. Perhaps we smash that filthy rabble from VP. Or, perhaps we are awfully unlucky and miss finals, then the fire burns all the way though the off season and next year is the one we've been waiting for. That's all I've got. Stand strong brothers and sisters.

They gave 4 qtrs of intensity and efforts, that's all that we can ask.
This is probably a broader discussion, but that should be a non negotiable every week. It shouldn’t be a source of pride, it should be a minimum requirement. That’s what the best sides do.

Obviously we’re capable. And if we did it every week, we’d most likely be sitting 2nd or 3rd on the ladder right now

Yes, tonight was an awesome display, but it should be the rule, not the exception.

That last minute, not sure seen a bigger cluster f*ck. We got what we deserved unfortunately, and here's hoping they learn from it. Pretty frustrating as a supporter though. Harry needs a good stern talking to re his reluctance to split / halve a contest or defensively make an impact, infuriating. Cost us a couple through refusing to apply effort

The Demons are a great side, they got beat last week in the last minute or two and the media were all over them, I heard Demon players and coaches downplay it, they knew they brought the effort and they'd win that game most times, they then come out the next week and get the job done.

We played a good game, a snap at the end resulting in a goal doesn’t change the level we played at, if Picket missed and we win, we haven’t played any better but the result is different.

Hopefully we get 1-2 players back next game, we bring the intensity like tonight and we get the job done.

We will get what we deserve.

Motlop blatantly dragged down in the middle with about 30 seconds left.
How the * does that not impact the result?
Cripps dragged down in the centre with a couple of minutes left. Absolute bullshit considering that 5-10 minutes earlier, Viney was awarded the same free kick. I thiink by the same umpire.

This is the thing usually people say after a crap performance “all we want to see is effort “.

Well we got effort, we came up short, it sucks, but that’s footy.

Good teams have a game plan in these situations to run down the clock,we're far too inexperienced but will learn from it.
Really disappointed this one got away.
In my opinion i think we'll struggle to back it up next week with the same intensity as tonight.
The Afl planned next weeks game ridiculously well, the pressure on us is going to be massive.
Seemed to have a bit of a plan. Kick to Harry on the wing, he kicks it sidewards to an easy target......that guy misses an easy target and puts Saad under pressure so he kicks to a contest....

That one kick hits the target we most likely win it, simple. Then we double down by 3 flying for the same ball and no-one on other ground......but it comes back to that one really bad short kick under zero pressure

They’ve won 15 games for the year, have beat Melb twice. Based on your theory if you can’t beat the Pies you don’t deserve to play finals, only 5 teams currently deserve to play finals, including West Coast!! On what basis do you think we should crush them?

Couldn't manage the pressure in the last two minutes. For shame.

Well done to McGovern and Cottrell. Both stood up and played above themselves. Love to see it.

Melbourne's team list is basically 1-2 years ahead of our own right now if you look at the age and experience of the players. That's where we are headed, I'm confident.

Will be nice to play finals this year but if it doesn't happen, it's not an indicator of us having no chance with this group.

It's obviously a really disappointing result, don't want to hear any excuses like umpires cost us the game. We cost ourselves the game with some poor skills and lack of footy smarts. With the ball up on the wing with 47 seconds left there were 3 to 1 Melbourne players in the middle of the ground. Where were the Carlton players? They certainly weren't in defense as extras as it was one on one. So why weren't they either on their opponent or flooded back in the defensive 50.

The other thing that does my head in for weeks is when the ball is kicked in the air, every single Carlton player in the area has to go up......So they spoil each other or don't impact the contest while the opposition has someone front and center. It's just the little things like that each week that just frustrate me.

To their credit they did play a lot better tonight......but it's the little things that stop them from becoming a very good side. We may well scrape in to the finals, but they haven't really played that well in the 2nd half of the season. A lot of players are seriously out of form and we havne't had a lot of luck on the injury sside of things pretty much all year.
We played our game plan. Which is long to a contest and extra numbers. But they got it out. Not exactly sure where our numbers were…

Counterpoint - his hunger to tackle Brayshaw in the F50 lead to a goal for us in a low scoring game.

On the basis that we have more talent than them, and that tonight’s effort and intensity should be the standard for every game.

Some of the usual whipping boys were very good tonight. Hats off to Jack Martin, Will Setterfield and Matt Cottrell. All you can ask is for these blokes to give their all. Lot to like and I am feeling very confident for next Sunday.
Setterfield saved himself from the chopping block.
Jack Martin very classy up front but already knew he capable of that. Just nice to see him play two matches in a row. His just finds ways to shake off opponents and find his balance. When he fit he should always be in the team. If that means one of Owies or Motlop not in the 22, so be it for team balance.

Agree, but we have to be realistic - remember where we’ve been in the last few years

This year we’ve taken many steps fwd - I’m willing to give the team & Voss some time

Viney got one of the biggest free rides I have ever seen. Never seen a play take on as many tackles and blatantly drop the ball or fail to dispose of it and not get penalised. But then he gets a HTB free for riding Walshs head into the ground
