1. Jake Melksham

Paid no respect most of the night and made us pay all night.

2. Matt Stevic

According to Twitter

14-5 free kicks Melbourne's way (other two umpires 9-8 their way)

Goals involving free kicks paid by Stevic. Melbourne 5. Carlton 1.

3. Forget the mistakes by Owies and Newnes.

WHY. JUST. *******. WHY. were our best ball users not busting their ******* asses to be the one to get the ball. It should never have been in Owie's hands to begin with.

Melbourne gave the players they didn't have to respect opportunity to win the ball knowing that the chances were if they had any shot at winning the game it was going to be by one of them ******* up
Owies should just hit an easy 20m kick.....don't blame others

Some of the usual whipping boys were very good tonight. Hats off to Jack Martin, Will Setterfield and Matt Cottrell. All you can ask is for these blokes to give their all. Lot to like and I am feeling very confident for next Sunday.
Agree, all stood up and played some of the best game for the club, especially cotts and setterfield.

You can break down the last 90 seconds any way you want. We let Jake Melksham KICK FOUR GOALS!!!!
That’s where the game was lost. In particular that mark in the goal square against four taller defenders.

Jake *en Melksham!!! Are you kidding me, Carlton!!!
Hold that 🍺 and wait til you see how many we let Jamie Elliott kick next week!

Just finished watching it on delay.....so close and so heartbreaking.

Can't fault the effort, can't fault much to be honest. Two bits of play, the 4 on 2 in their goal square with a couple of minutes to go and that prick Melksham takes a mark .....Gov, you have to kill that ball right there. Then late in the game, we go fwd, 3 of us fly and no-one on ground and they run it away......someone has to stay down and just half the ground ball and get a ball up.

We were great, effort was great, went to war and just came up a kick short.

Setterfield was fantastic on Oliver, contained him to a ok game and did a fair bit himself. With Hewitt out, that has to be his role next week and hopefully finals.

Young was fantastic.

If I was to pick a few players for some ordinary play, Newnes fumbled every ******* time and cost us dearly alot and obviously his man kicked the winner (to be fair if that was his man kozy was quiet), stocker by foot is hideous, doc first half by foot was atrocious.

Lastly.....love the effort and attitude.....bit where the * was that effort and attitide against the crows? Turn up like that and we win by 10 goals.

Newnes and Owies never again

Gawn and Jackson murdered us, why not play two rucks?

Selection cost us.

Melksham, who was responsible

Everything else went to plan
It could have been anyone of them, Demons are a talented team, just can’t keep them all under check, especially when a double chance in the balance.
Our boys we’re mighty tonight lost with 11 seconds to go, just astounding.
Tonight’s game would have sapped the team, it took great effort and determination, to apply such pressure, hope we can get up again, next week against a fierce rival.

Setterfield did himself no disservice - either to sway Carlton to offering him another contract or attracting rival suitors to make a play for him.

Really liked Fisher’s game. Saad was great and battled on despite being clearly hampered by an injury. McKay really stepped up - great to see him attack. Cottrell was brilliant and JSOS battled hard

Badkline feels very unsettled at times. Feel like the only composed player back there is Saad. The boys will find their groove but it just looks so often that there’s no communication.

I was at the Saints game and remember watching it feeling like the team came out expecting to cruise to a win. No urgency, just hoping to out-'talent' them. Watching this match, I was impressed by the pressure we put on Melbourne. We were hoofing it up in the air, and so were they. I didn't think we could sustain it, but it was pretty much there the whole game. Shit result and shit game management in the end, but I'm proud of the effort.

Fisher, Durdin and Cottrell come to mind on top of the usual suspects. In a high pressure game, their little taps, toe pokes, nudges helped push the team forward.

There are a plethora of ways to better manage a 7 point lead, and I sincerely hope the team learn from it. Entries into F50 will take longer to remediate, but surely late game structures to allow safe marks will be easier.

Do we? At any rate, knowing something and doing something with that knowledge are two different things. We delist players a year too late only to extend contracts and add others to the list who are in the same vein.

Yes, we do. Newnes isn’t an automatic selection each week, the wings is a weakness and we turned the list over plenty last year.

Some people seem to think you can cut all the deadwood in one year and the players you replace them with will all be serviceable.

Doesn’t happen. Even the best sides have whipping boys

Docherty and Setterfield were amazing in the makeshift midfield this week, Setters in the guts against collingwood next week.

Very disappointed with Jack Newnes, he just has no composure with the footy at all.
Newnes fumbled every time he went near it, cost is on a number of times switching and in close. Was terrible

Contest and clearance was back… but disposal at times really disappointing. We should have buried Dees we looked better side in the last quarter but lack composure with the ball.

All we wanted was for our team to front up tonight with a bit of heart

They gave 4 qtrs of intensity and efforts, that's all that we can ask.
We were undermanned but put up a good showing

Finals 2022 is still in our hands and we'll win next week if we come in with the same attitude

I'm gutted, but very proud of the boys tonight

We'll take this on the chin and learn from this to win other close matches!
