Bloke winning crucial balls out of the centre under extreme pressure.

Big footy expert "only 57% disposal efficiency"
His first half by foot was diabolical, his 2nd half was awesome.

Good to see doc and setters in the midfield, gave a whole new look to it and worked well.

I would like to say something.....

yes there is game plan there is tactics there is this and there is that but nothing..I repeat nothing trumps effort.

bring that sort of effort next week and no reason why we cant win it.

I'm actually so stoked with tonight's game, outside the loss of course. Surprised myself how positive I am but hear me out:
  1. We are prob a 1% chance of winning the premiership...the main benefit of making finals this year is for this group to experience big finals games and how to handle it. Well I'd argue tonight's game was basically like an elimination final in terms of experience for our playing group given the opposition, high pressure game and what was at stake for both teams.
  2. The last 2 weeks Adelaide & Brisbane brought finals-like intensity and we crumbled. Tonight we adjusted and matched it with one of the best. Not just in pressure but tactics. The last few weeks we still tried to pull off our handball in tight game plan which led to turnover after turnover. Tonight there was a clear tactical shift where we got the ball on the boot and took territory - which worked well. To help this, we didn't roll our forwards way up the ground like we've done all year, we left good numbers forward of the ball to contest the hack kicks. We found a new way to play to give us a better chance to win in high pressure games.
  3. Thought Setterfield showed something in his natural inside mid role. Jack Martin showed the X-factor we know he's capable of. We tried different things like Doc playing more midfield. Young and Cottrell were huge.
  4. This performance is all the more impressive given our injuries, whereas Melbourne was only missing Tom McDonald.
  5. This group hasn't been in big finals contention games in their careers. Experiencing these games will do wonders for the players to improve in our window over the next few years.
No.2 is actually the biggest thing for me. We learned from the last 2 weeks and adjusted our game style accordingly. This is a very good thing.

Was there that day. That’s was a calamity endured over two long hours. Tonight was a beautiful train ride through Alps which ended in a derailment at the peak, killing all on board.
Such a great post it made me laugh, on one of the worst footy days in recent memory.

Gutted but proud of effort overall.

The last two minutes was panic.

They need to recover and Pies game will be completely different style of game.

Loved so many. Shout out to Setters, Docherty, Young, Silver, Harry, Saad, and Fisher.

I like Cotts today vs strong opposition.

Everyone has a right to question where that standard is every week. It wasn’t there against GC, St Kilda, Adelaide and the first Freo game over there. Without it, doesn’t matter if you make finals you’re just making the numbers.

Good teams bring it every week and we haven’t. You can say injuries but we won our games when we had injuries galore because the effort was there.

Almost better to miss than go out week 1. Then burn for it all summer and don’t let others control your fate.

Have a good Sunday everyone.

Owies should just hit an easy 20m kick.....don't blame others

The top teams get their best ball users the ball in the last minute of the game.

But go on, continue blaming the easy target.

Truth is, Collingwood are no good. And I don’t give a shit about their 11 in a row. Mostly bottom sides and plenty of luck.

We should crush them next week. If we can’t beat them, we don’t belong in the finals anyway.

I was going for you guys given the impact on our top 4 chances. Thought you played a brilliant game. Hard to see it now with the pain of losing, but I took more from that game about your prospects for next 5 years than your finals chances this year.

Missing players, expected to turn up your toes and you played with dash and dare, just couldn’t hold on.

I thought it showed a lot of character, good luck next Sunday, I’ll be going for you again.

Setterfield did himself no disservice - either to sway Carlton to offering him another contract or attracting rival suitors to make a play for him.

Really liked Fisher’s game. Saad was great and battled on despite being clearly hampered by an injury. McKay really stepped up - great to see him attack. Cottrell was brilliant and JSOS battled hard

Badkline feels very unsettled at times. Feel like the only composed player back there is Saad. The boys will find their groove but it just looks so often that there’s no communication.
Fisher under real pressure last week went to water, stood up today and was pretty solid. Can only be good for his development this year

Positives only after that effort. We deserve to play finals. Either we win next week (likely) of hawks beat bulldogs. From there, we give it a shake. We were up for the fight tonight.
For all the effort tonight it means nothing without a win unfortunately (except kept us ahead on percentage)

Good teams have a game plan in these situations to run down the clock,we're far too inexperienced but will learn from it.
Really disappointed this one got away.
In my opinion i think we'll struggle to back it up next week with the same intensity as tonight.
The Afl planned next weeks game ridiculously well, the pressure on us is going to be massive.

Sounds like an unpopular opinion but pretty happy with Pittonet's game tonight. Sure Gawn beat him but strangely enough Pittonet seemed to be able to have honourable losses whereby our midfielders were in the contest unlike last week when Brisbane did whatever they liked

Cripps as a result went from about nil clearances to 10 this week. JSOS was great as well. Don't know the clearance figures off hand but felt like we broke even at worst in an area that we might have expected to get belted.

Of course he is the easy target, it's an easy kick, it's 20m kick under zero pressure - just hit the target.

No excuses from me, you however.....

Credit to Voss, people have questioned whether he had a plan B.

Tonight I thought he out-coached Goodwin. We clearly wanted to take territory more than handballing from stoppage which is a change.

The makeshift midfield with the inclusion of Docherty and Setterfield was a win.

The use of Cotrell was important, he made the right selection leaving TDK out. We looked more mobile with Jack being the second ruck.

The smalls applied a heap of pressure. We were 20 seconds from winning and it would have been a famous coaching victory considering the outs, the opponent and the stakes.

I was impressed with Voss tonight.
