Re Weitering that's total baloney, Weitering actually had a very good 1st season and has never looked like a bust. Only that laughing boy they had coaching him was the only down point in his career.
That's simply not true mate

I got the impression we played him up forward because once he got some form in defense, all his opponents would do is take him right away from the play, and that's all they'd do pretty much, sacrifice their game to keep him out of it. But this was making it impossible for him to skill up, no chance to take marks, get kicks, do handpasses, anything. Putting him up forward means the ball comes at him and he gets involved by default. Has been like many of our players, has improved a fair bit this year, especially second half. Still room to go tho, for his draft pick, even for a defender I expect him to be doing a bit better up forward to be at the level I think he should be. That final was good tho, almost at the level I'd like.
Umm what?

If he found form in defence we would have played him in the ones.

Similar profile to Jacob Weitering who had the same queries about his speed and aggression. Was labelled a bust early but started showing signs of life in his 4th year (6th in Carlton's B+F) and has been in the All-Australian squad each of 2020-2022.

Next year is year 4 for McAsey so hopefully he can put in a big offseason and get a crack at a KPD spot early. Wouldn't be cashing out for peanuts just yet.
Weitering was labelled a bust? By the end of his 3rd season he had played 56 AFL games, he struggled up forward because he isn't a forward. McAsey hasn't played an AFL game for 2 years.

The Weitering example, no matter how many times it is raised is just a smokescreen for McAsey defenders to hide behind.

And where were CARL on the ladder in those years ?
14th - 16th - 18th - 16th .....2016 thru 2019

Like MELB, ST KILDA and other bottom sides .....trotting out your high Draft Picks in AFL games was good for memberships and selling hope

It took a long time for Weitering to be considered a good AFL player

And where the hell have we been during McAsey's 3 years? Thats hardly helping your argument.

Weitering had a good first year, was moved forward because the coach was an idiot and excelled when he went back again.

McAsey has struggled at SANFL level.

He wouldn't have been moved FWD if he was performing as a KPD ??.......it's logical

Are you now going to move Fogarty to CHB after his season forward ? ......nope

Um no. Coaches make dumb decisions all the time.

As for Fogarty, stupid comparison. How many years in for Fog, he has had his development as a forward and now excelled.

Weitering was a young defender who had a good first season at AFL level, then moved forward, now he's back he has excelled.

Whereas McAsey struggled year 1 in the AFL, struggled years 2-3 in the SANFL and you are trying to compare the pair? Besides being tall males there isnt a comparison to be made.

That’s just not true.

In Weitering’s first year he lost 26.7% of his 1-on-1s, averaged 1.2 contested marks, 3.4 spoils and 2 intercept marks.

In 2020 Fischer lost 53.3% of his 1-on-1s, averaged 0.5 contested marks, 1.8 spoils and 0.5 intercept marks.

Weitering had his struggles but their careers so far are not comparable.

He's a bust, does stuff all against under sized part timers in the SANFL.

If you look at his defenders on here, it's the usual grab bag of club apologists who also go in to bat for McHenry and Jones.

Any comparison to Weitering is laughable as he had a lot of good games and did classy stuff in his debut year. Then Bolton stuffed him up.

Being a cheap ******** .....I paid the one month subscription to the SANFL and am watching the Finals and entire season of games

Watched the last 4 games so far, probably the important ones for assessing player improvement .......I'm not sure why the hate on McAsey !

He's putting his body at the fall of a lot of balls, bringing it to ground .....taking some good grabs ....he's showing the talent that would explain why other Clubs would look at him

Be patient .....there's a talented 198cm KPP there and developing .....maybe not at the pace some wish
its simple most on here dont watch games they look at the disposal count on the sanfl app

unless he really wants to return to melbs be patient - and just dont give him away for nothing

i also suspect a change back to defence might happen next year. frampton will be gone and playing back will seem positively easy after playing forward.

murray has far from convinced me and as bcox looks off the table we are still missing a tall intercepting kpd to work with mr frugle (butts)

I suspect this will occur as well with McAsey

Weitering was pretty good in year 1 from memory.

McAsey was presenting pretty well as a forward in that last SANFL final … got burned lots of times.

I just don’t see enough AFL strengths though. Too slow, not physically strong enough, doesn’t keep his feet! He is brave and does seem to understand / read the game quite well.

Why would we keep pumping resources into him - when there are other players that have gone past him so quickly?

If Fish was going to be a premiership CHB, we would know by now.

Pick 6, that is what you are paying for. We lost that bet.

I’d rather he went home, enjoyed his footy more … found his spot on a list in Victoria somewhere.

Cost of doing business. Write it off. Win some lose some.

What makes you say he isn't enjoying it?

I didn't say that. I said if he went home he might enjoy it more.

I don't see him as one that is hating it at the Crows, I also think big guys need time.

For me, there appear to be too many what-ifs hanging over Fish to justify us hanging on for dear life.

If no offers come, I'm completely on-board for letting him continue to learn and see where he ends up on our list. If we get an offer than equates to any value, I think we should take it.

Josh Shache is probably a comparison I would consider... High draft pick KPP and just 'never quiet made it'. TBF even Shache has probably shown more in a very very modest career.

Working my way thru SANFL games .....watching the Crows v Sturt

Loving the potential of McAsey ......is approaching contests in different ways .....he's not a one trick pony

Taken a mark 4 deep & goaled .....he sticks his body at the foot of contests, muscling ala Fogs ....and he leads
Just a good footy IQ

Let's see if the Club is thinking like me .......you just have to persevere with McAsey .....don't look at his stats, look at his movement, his thinking in contested situations ......FFS he's only 21 !!

You've almost convinced me with this weirdly sycophantic post - but I just dont see it.
