Surely no way they can afford Junior if the Rankine deal gets done.

I wouldn't bet on that, who would be on big money at the Crows currently? Laird, Dawson, O'Brien and Crouch are the likely only ones on big coin and there's a good chance Crouch gets moved on

Walker, Sloane, Seedsman and Smith as veterans wouldn't be on big deals

Not that I see it happening, but a small forward line of Rankine, Rioli and Rachele would be one of the most dangerous in the comp.

Might depend on whether they offload Crouch.

And don’t call me Shirley.

Fair points, maybe replace can with would they want to spend decent money on Junior after already spending big money on another small forward.

Adding Rioli would take a lot of pressure off Rankine to go to work..

A rare example of sensibility on the Port board after a poster criticised our statement about Rioli's trade request:

So what do you expect them to say? I cannot see anything in that statement that our Club would not be saying if the roles were reversed. West Coast obviously put time and effort into supporting Rioli when he was in deep s**t and they expected to get repaid for their efforts. I have a an issue with a guy who gets himself in the s**t, gets supported by his club then shows no loyatly.

I do not have much sympathy for Junior and I hope this deal does not come back to bite us on the arse.

No club is going to touch him in the PSD. He wants to come to Adelaide for family reasons and he's chosen Port. No other club will risk the trouble of taking him in the PSD. It's not worth it to them.
Fair chance you’re right that no other club would take him in the PSD

But is that a chance Rioli is willing to take?

If he gets nervous that he’s not guaranteed of getting to Port maybe he asks his manager to restart conversations with the Victorian clubs that were interested. And we’ve seen Rioli is not the most stable thinker

Fwiw though, I doubt West Coast are likely to push the PSD angle as a negotiating tool. More probable that they look for other suitors that might provide an acceptable alternative for Rioli and WCE

Fantasia didn't have a drug problem and isn't one more strike away from being deregistered by the AFL.

What did Geelong pay for Stengel after his drug problems? Nothing, zilch.

On Georgiadis...forget about it. He's highly rated internally by the club and viewed as integral to our future plus he himself loves it at the club and is great mates with our younger brigade like Butters, Rozee and Marshall.

You could've got Georgiadis if you didn't flush your short to medium term future down the toilet with the crazy Tim Kelly trade.

Geelong didn't pay anything for Stengle because he was playing for Woodville in the SANFL, huge difference to Rioli currently being at West Coast.
Again if Port think they will get him for peanuts, your mob has rocks in their head.

We've already ruled out a play for Georgiadis this year, so you can stop getting worked up over it.

No one wants Georgiades and the Rioli trade has every chance of being the poor mans Kelly trade.

So there:p

Riolis drug problem was worse than Stengle's and devalues a player's worth considerably. Add to that Riolis fitness issues and it becomes quiet a risk to Port....high risk but potentially high reward.

Rioli's fitness issues are over played. If you go back and view his stats from 2018-2019 he was up there every week for the most KMs covered every game, and that includes the opposition players.

People look at his build and still think he can't run, but it's the polar opposite from the tuth.

Round 7 in 2018, West Coast defeat Port by 42 points. Rioli ran further than Ports best effort that day

Port supporter desperately trying to justify paying peanuts for Rioli is amusing.

The trade will get done, and it will be done for a decent pick because Rioli is more than a decent player balanced with the off-field issues. The end.

Or it'll be a mediocre pick but none of the bigfooty argy bargy will make an ounce of difference cos we're ultimately just talking shit and pretending to know things

For some, pick 30 is mediocre but that's a decent pick for most reasoned posters and it will probably get done for that or similar.

No, Rioli is not a match winner that would attract a first rounder on the open market and thus Port better give us pick 9. No, he also isn't a drug-addled spud that would get pick 60 and thus we should be happy with whatever scraps Port throw us.

Either way, us on BigFooty have nfi that's for sure and the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Port traded "quality" players, Polec (OoC) and Pittard for Pick 11 with a 3rd being sent back by North. Polec was on roughly 700k for 5 years and Rioli reportedly offered 600k for 4, so definitely a difference there. Not sure what pick gets this done, but it won't be a token pick exchange.

I remember that well and couldn't believe North was stupid enough to do that but looking at where they've been since perhaps it's not so surprising.

Let's not pretend for a moment this is about family, when interviewed he spoke about getting the best financial deal possible and making the most of it. He told the truth. Besides he has plenty of family in Victoria.

Regardless all you need to do is provide us the Amon compo and he is all yours. Pretty easy.

Your club, not ours, has offered him a 4 year deal on as much as $500k per year according to some unconfirmed reports. So whatever your misgivings about Rioli are, it seems Port Adelaide don’t share them

With that contract on the table and interest from other clubs, a mid 20’s draft pick seems a reasonable trade

I don’t think many posters here think Rioli is worth more than that and all the media reporting I’ve seen hold the same view
