there has been strong rumours that Rayner could be traded since mid season. Not because he's unpopular, or that the Lions want to get rid of him - but that his trade currency right now probably exceeds his on-field output and that window is closing fast

If you have a player that has currency, but isn't producing significant output - the conversation will always be one phone call away.

If you needed to trade Rayner in order to secure Ashcroft, Dunkley and Gunston, then it would be crazy not to trade him provided you got a strong return that allows a smooth process of bringing those 3 in.

**** that.

That's the thing, we absolutely don't need to trade Rayner or any players for that matter in order to secure the above.

Frankly, that rumour is laughable.

Aren’t you the one who was posting that Fletcher was only worth a third rounder 2 weeks ago?

Yes, and I'd be very surprised if the Lions matched a bid on him in the first round if one came.

If you actually went and watched him play football, you would realise he is a 3rd round prospect and I'd be staggered if he played at AFL level in 2023 no matter where he ends up.

A previous Lions Academy prospect (without the benefit of a surname/father son) in Saxon Crozier as one example, was a far superior player to Jaspa at the same age, more accomplished at every level of football and he was not drafted at all, and doesn't even play anymore.

I don't listen trade radio but when I hear some of these Vic morons talk about Brisbane players - no doubt other interstate team supporters say the same thing - but they are usually just flat at wrong but worse, they talk as if they are 100% correct and so so thinking no one would know. It boggels the mind that they even have them on and want to go on when they have no clue.

I would never pass comment on anything, let alone on radio or TV if I knew I wasn't 100% accurate.

Plus Hippy would be devastated if Cam left - not happening.

I liked Crozier but give me Fletcher every day of the week, far more damaging and finds himself in better spots imo, better mover across the ground as well.

That’s the thing I don’t understand, a lot of people saying we need to trade guys out and it’ll be very interesting to see where we get points from. IMO it won’t be interesting at all, we’ll bring in Dunkley for our two firsts plus points coming back, we’ll use those picks coming back + McStay compo in other points based trades, we’ll go into deficit for next year and that’ll just about be it.

Look at our last third of the year and you'll find he was consistently in the top few players. Brown has said on a few occasions he's the heartbeat of our dressing room. Absolutely no chance he goes.

Sanderson has been way off the mark with us numerous times before, the day before the Melbourne final he was saying that they will flog us by so much that Petracca and Oliver will sit out the whole 2nd half.

I think the most we would get for Cam in a trade right now would be a mid/late first rounder if we were lucky. Can assure you that both the supporter base and the club rate him significantly higher than that. I quite seriously think there is a chance the club would reject a trade even if North offered pick 1 outright for him.

It's a bit funny though. I remember the same speculation being thrown around re: Petracca back in 2017/18 - that he hadn't come on as a number 1 pick, that this was the time to trade him while he at least still had some value etc. I expect this off-season's talk about Rayner will look just as stupid as that does in a few years.

Where exactly have these strong rumours been circulating? In your own head? Do you post so matter of fact in every clubs board or just here?

Always open to these sorts of discussions but it makes no sense. His trade value would be low vs his potential upside. Not to mention he is a much loved and infectious character within the group. Arguably our most popular clubman.

The only way I could see this having any substance is if he wants to come back to Melbourne to be closer to family, but everything he has said lately indicates he could not be happier with us and Brisbane is 100% home.

Just don’t see it on any level.

How do you know he hasn’t watched him? So all these draft experts that watch every game and have him in the top 25 have it wrong as well do they?

"Apparently".

i agree, we'll need to trade something to get more picks/points, we don't need to trade for Gunston if he were to nominate us.

Strong rumours? Clearly trolling

Saxon a better player than Jaspa?! Ooooof that's a hot take.
