Jack Bowes looked to be a pretty decent player from what I’ve seen. I’d think he could find a spot in our best 22 if he wants it but his salary is quite large so would be interesting to see how we could make it work.

Article also says Suns have offered Tom Berry a contract. This trade period is gonna be interesting.
More over Pineapple Grapple, it’s time for the Q-Clash to be known as the Berry Cup now :p

Where’s this cap space coming from? Until trade period is over I just worry a bomb will be dropped on us from inside the 22. I’d be all for it if we can afford it and not lose any “untouchables” though.

Lions get - Bowes, Dunkley + 25(Suns).

Suns get - Future 1st(Lions).

Dogs get - 7(Suns).
Gold Coast can probably have Berry Jr as well, as a sweetener for them :thumbsu:

Yeah my mind is blown if we can take on Bowes' contract without something significant tipping out, above and beyond Robbo and McStay. Inconceivable for me to wrap my head around, particularly with Dunkley coming in.
Could be that Gardiner is seriously considering leaving at the end of the year, which could hurt our defence stocks either further in 2023.

However, if Bowes is a replacement for Berry Jr, I see that as a win for both parties involved, given it helps our team’s defence/midfield stocks and helps Gold Coast’s small forward stocks as well.

People were speculating here for a while that our cap was a lot better balanced then some had assumed. I really think not deferring any our player payments during covid has left us in a much better position than a lot of clubs. Probably anticipating a cap increase too with that mega deal the AFL just secured for the broadcast rights from 2025 onwards.

Where do we sign?

I hope the club has some other players in their sights other than Bowes
I prefer the Geelong and other clubs model of finding players that suit your list deficiencies without a hugh costs attached
We are a destination club now so it should be much easier to get someone suitable

I think more delistings from the Lions is on the cards

You never really know about the actually cap situation though. Pure (and fun) speculation but maybe Cameron and Neale contracts were front-ended because we were average at the time (Neale possibly smoothed out post extension), Gardiner will be on less from here, Hipwood and Rayner on slightly less than anticipated after injury, large TV deal gives more confidence for longer term bigger contracts, the likes of Andrews and Berry agree to be flexible with an eye on a flag etc. etc. And who knows, you find 600k through good culture and administration. Love Fages, loved Noble, never forget the warriors of Martin, Beams, Rockliff, Robinson (who all basically broke from the hard years where they attended every clearance to protect the youth) but worth noting maybe Swann has been the genius architect all along. Not sure if he's in the works but I would consider him strongly as AFL CEO...

Bowes was averaging 26.5 disposals a game last year before he was injured against us in round 9
Another shoulder wasn't it ?

If we can pull this off we'll have had an exceptionally prosperous trade period.

What I like about him is that he can take on a run with role against guns of the competition and proven to be quite effective.

Question is he the marking defender we need or does he just add more Run to the defensive half?
