Not keen to lose Dizzy, still a best 22 player, Payne is perfect right now as the back up option, after him the cupboard is bare. Diz still has that unique ability to play on talls and smalls, think his game is underrated by many. All our defenders are down in form, but that is because they have been let down by our defensive structures. Far too leaky, if we can fix our structures up a bit I think all our defenders can get a significant boost in performance.

Yep, unless you were getting a ridiculous offer for Darcy, I don't see why we would let Darcy go particulalry when Adams seems touch and go, Andrews is n't exactly consistent and we only have Payne and Lester. I kinda dont get why Darcy would want either - more money like McStay perhaps?

I do not see Neale as a captain type.

Andrews has long been touted as the next captain. I have gone off that idea as he has not provided the level of onfield leadership at the back that we saw from Hodge when he was in the team.

The one I would probably go with now would be Berry. He was a very highly regarded leader and captain in his junior days and seems a bit of a leader on the field taking selfless roles.

Can't imagine anyone would want him at his contract demands anyway.

Say take it or leave it and go get a Riley Green or Arnold. Saves 400-450k a year to keep others.

Playing a quicker and more skilful defence may be better for us anyway.

I’m going to sit in front of the computer constantly refreshing until 4pm and then I will start angrily shadow boxing when Zorkos announced for another year. Will do that for about 15 mins. After that I’ll make a highly anabolic protein shake with my nutri bullet and sip it whilst muttering to myself about how I should be a list manager.

I want Zorko to go on but there is a vocal minority of people who are going to post utter repugnant shit in response to a public announcement.

Don't get me wrong; more than happy and think Zorks should continue on for one more - his best is still clearly good enough, just think we should manage him a little better like the Cats do with their ageing stars. My previous post was just that any extension related to Zorks should just be announced like the delisted players a couple of days ago, but then again, the club is probably keen to celebrate any bit of positivity given the past week which is fair enough in hindsight.

Happy for him to sign on, but it's time for a new captain.

Agree with your thoughts about not really having any ready made captain in the team, which to me makes it even more important that this happens while Zorko is still in the team.

To be honest I think this probably should have happened in 2022. Should have bitten this bullet last summer.

It's not the vibe about him re-signing, it's just the vibe regarding Zorko.

He has a tendency to be a lighting rod for shit comments from both emotionally unstable elements of our fanbase, as well as moronic blow-ins from other clubs.

Just look at the tweet replies from the 4pm tweet alone. Like McIvor said, he should be re-signed, but if the social media team are using it as fodder for "good vibes", I think they may have misread the play. Especially if they pre-empt it with a "something big is coming" suspense-building lead-in.

says he is still weighing up a move to Brisbane Lions to replace outgoing goal kicker Dan McStay.

Gunston, 31, is an unrestricted free agent meaning he can walk to the Lions without the club giving up anything in a trade.

The three-time premiership forward said he was still considering his options at a TAB spring carnival launch function on Tuesday despite coach Chris Fagan’s decision to step away from the coaching role for the time being.

Fagan will take part in the AFL’s investigation into the treatment of Hawthorn indigenous players which is expected to take months to complete.

Fagan will vigorously defend himself in the face of claims Hawthorn players were mistreated during his time at Hawthorn as coach development manager and football operations boss.

Gunston is in-line to replace McStay who will head to Collingwood as an unrestricted free agent.

The gun forward said he was close to making a call whether to head north.

Gunston was at Hawthorn during Fagan’s time there.
