This is a big melt but

The Bowes trade is genuinely, the worst trade ever.

Salary dump for a future 3rd sure, but Bowes is actually a good player, and for us to just throw in a top 10 pick along with it is probably the worst self-inflicted deal I've ever seen in my life.

Cameron came to the club in 2018, which means it was him that chose to extend Bowes in the first place.

For him to have mismanaged the club and its finances so monumentally is a ****ing disgrace.

Shouldn't keep his job. This trade is going to have massive ramifications for the future of the club. Why would you have confidence extending with the SUNS if you were Anderson or Rowell if you see that from the club. Club may just decide to salary dump you for the sake of it regardless of how much time and commitment you've shown if you have a bad year.

You don't see this shit from clubs like Geelong or Sydney. Clubs that are always up the top. Loyalty is a two way street and we just booted out a guy who has been nothing but committed to the club even during our worst years.

I mean Collingwood literally did the same thing with Treloar and he was best 22 - think it’s a dumb move but nessecary

Adam Treloar and a few second round picks for pick 14 and a future second is 1000x better than Bowes and pick 7 for likely a future pick 54

Finished second last the year after?
They also ended up firing their list manager. Then their coach the following season.

Now I didn’t like the Bowes and Pick 7 trade for what we got back. Pathetic all round (even if I like the idea of freeing up cap space).

However, Geelong took all of his salary. Not part, or half—all. Collingwood will still be paying a large chunk of Grundy’s salary. I’m not sure if they are still paying Treloar or not, but they paid for a lot of that too. The trades aren’t completely comparable in terms of picks traded in and out.

Also, Collingwood can make dumb choices and still be a destination club. We can’t do the same.

Rowell and Anderson are best 22 and have done more than Jack Bowes ever has onfield. (Brownlow votes, rising star nominations, under 22, AFLPA best first year player, top 3 GC B&f)

Off field, Anderson is already in the leadership group, can’t recall Bowes ever being in the leadership even tho he was our first ever gun academy player to come thru and is a loyal QLDer.

Collingwood have consistently been at the top during that duration and nothing stopped them kicking out Treloar, Stephenson, Phillips and now Grundy.

Grundy $1mil/5y, best 22. All Australian, Collingwood are paying him to pay at another club and Collingwood are one of the biggest clubs in the land.

What happens when we make finals next year and land that A grade target we wanted. Does Cameron get praised for it? Nope, he’ll never get any mentions until we win a flag.

What happens if we dont make finals next year?
What happens if Rowell or Anderson or Touk go down and get injured? What if all of them get injured?
What if they want a trade to another club?
What if no A grade talents have any interest in coming here?

you can list a shit load of what if's but the fact of the matter is he sold off at absolute worst, a great team man, who has the potential to be an elite mid, who can play solid as a back flank, while also tossing away a potential gun of a top 10 pick, for salary next year that we aren't even using.

The worst trade in history bar none.

Bowes was not a solid back flank. He is as slow as treacle and his kicking was quite suspect at times. He padded his stats from kick outs when he played back there.

The issue is with us, he provides little defensive pressure which, rightly or wrongly, this coaching staff has deemed to be a non negotiable.

It is awful the way we got rid of him, and questions need to be asked of the contract he was on and how it got to this, but the idea behind the move is sound, Bowes is a peripheral player in this team and we shouldn't be investing any significant wage into play 10 games a year in the seniors. Even if we were able to go to him and smooth out that contract over 4 years at 400k a year, we are still playing him 500k a year to be a bit part player.

Not sure how many points we expect to need for next year but would have thought it would be something similar to Brisbane this year. As it stands we have around 1000 more points 2023 than Brisbane this year. Our 2023 1st rounder is definitely tradeable, so where's these players wanting to come up?

1. Sack the coach and try something different, don't have to throw the baby out with the bath water just yet.
2. Flanders, Hollands, Fiorini, Davies will have to step up.
3. Touk won't leave. If Noah or Matt want to leave, just get the best deal, picks and best 22 players from other clubs.
4. The only thing we could provide them is money, which is want Craig Cameron has been saying. We haven't even been in the conversation to attract these players because of our cap problems, now that we're actually taking a forward step in clearly space we can finally have conversations.

If he was a great team man he would've smoothed out his contract even further like he has with Geelong. He can play solid back flank but he doesn't want to, he wants to play midfield.

By the way every Suns fan should know that having top drafts picks means absolutely nothing, it doesn't guarantee you a star player nor does it guarantee success. Our best draft pick was Touk Miller taken in the 2014 draft at PICK 29.

Not much point trading out next year's first, we have more than enough points to get the 3 or 4 academy prospects we have and keep our first round pick for next year and possibly trade it then.

Run the team back with Ben King and see how we go next year.

The whole points system is confusing but if we have say pick 10 and Walter goes before 10 doesn't that use up that pick regardless of how many later picks we have?

Depending on how many future picks we have saved up, likely we'll probably use our first on Walter regardless.

The idea would be we trade it out next year if it looks like Walters is a top pick. So we either try to get a player or just exchange for a pick swap/future picks.

Then we use out vast collection of second, third and fourth rounders for our academy players (if they even get bid on. Some clubs don’t bother wasting their pick and forcing points, but take the player they actually want).

Yes, your highest pick is the first consumed. Which is why most teams trade their first for lower picks that equate to more points.

Another option is to try and trade above an expected bid - which really depends on how Walters goes next year. And whether we want the extra draftee. Given it's supposed to be a strong draft next year (aren't they all?) it might be worth it.

Still very early but I reckon Walters is a top 5. If we are taking the 3 local lads I can't see us keen to take any other picks anyway.
Would love hawks 2023 1st, they are doing everything they can to be pick 1 next year.

Going to be tough relying on our injured players coming back to get us there tbh.

Every team has brought in best 22 players.

I feel somewhat we are being left behind the clubs we were fighting with to make finals
