Whether Thorburn having a leg to stand on in regards to unfair dismissal is one thing as its obvious that Essendon did not engage in a proper process when hiring him and its 100% their fault for ****ing up.

However he is also completely incompatible for a position such as that on account of being a dodgy ex banker and also part of a church with obvious and public bigoted ideals and calling him out on that is fair.

Just as an aside, Essendon had recruited him through Ernst and Young, so he made it through a fairly credible system.

There really is no complexity to what happened with Essendon though.

Post appointment they were made aware of his affiliation with a church that made hate speech statements in sermons. Statements that are completely at odds with Essendons stated policies and goals.

He was asked to stand down for business reasons. He hasn’t pursued any form of unfair dismissal because there is nothing to pursue.

If you want to argue about whether religion can continue to spout anti gay rhetoric because of religious freedoms sure THAT might have some complexity (my personal opinion of it aside) but the Essendon case isn’t complicated unless you really want to make it complicated.

Yeah, if it was a Muslim who represented a mufti that was pro sharia law or religious violence the backlash would be even more brutal.

It's pretty normal for people who's beliefs are going to clash with the organisation that they are looking at joining to make a decision not to step into those roles....unless they aim to get inside and change things to fit with their own.

It is a complex issue and there are a few moral rabbit holes but I don't think this has deserved as much discussion as it has got.

Actually felt a bit sorry for North after the Clarko scandal.

Now?... not so much

I don't feel sorry for the administration of North Melbourne - they only hired a coach without a proper process in 2019, turned out catastrophically, so they did it again. Obviously not enough work done beforehand to see the issues that would come up with Clarkson (Noble sacked mid-year, Hawthorn indigenous review commenced in April).

I imagine it’s only while Roo and family have their long between season break in Texas. Would be good for them.
Think how much cash a good American footballer can make. It would be really something if we got anywhere near the Riewoldt boys.
