I honestly don't know. Even Newman was suggesting it was a conspiracy theory.
Appreciate this but I’m not taking a Don Scott podcast as any kind of verifiable source. If Andrews reneged on government funding don’t you think Kennett would have thrown a rather public tantrum about it?
Confirmed by Kennett.

We could potentially use Dingley as a drawcard for those not wanting to live in Metro Melbourne similar to Geelong.

Red Hill only half an hour away.

Not the worst idea. We should get among some Mornington real estate folk and hook up recruits wanting the surf coast lifestyle with a brand spanking new Nissan to commute between there and Dingley. Granted I’m not a surfer so can’t attest to the conditions that way compared to Torquay etc - but I’ve always enjoyed my time around Mornington way compared to Geelong.

We need some fresh sub-divided land in the peninsula to offer to some potential recruits. D E S T I N A T I O N C L U B.

I can attest to the conditions, the options, quality and ease of access all year round down Geelong way leave Mornington with a lot to be desired (although I’m sure some MP locals would strongly disagree). In saying that, I like the idea and think that side of the bay has a lot to offer and could be used as a draw card.

Maybe we can attract the golfers? Some ripping courses on the Pinch.
Toss in some golf club memberships to attract talent!

The back beaches (Rye, Sorrento, Portsea, Gunnamatta) are all surfable.
Bells Beach and Jan Juc have them covered, however.

Some nice spots around Kilcunda/Phillip Island way, but not exactly a quick trip to Dingley from there.

Jeffs comments at the best and fairest makes this intresting, makes me wonder if the government want to make sure the Hawks start building it first before releasing the funding?
I think they are waiting for him to leave and he has been made aware that he should keep his mouth shut until after we have the money.

hehe i meant his comments at the pcm that due to the state of the economy the board will meet to decide if they go ahead with the project or not btw

went past this morning since I was in the area (yes you can laugh lol) and apparently all the construction signs have started to be added in the last week.. maybe the start of construction might not be far away then..?

When were originally hoping to have Dingley up and running as our training base ? But yeah the commute isn't that bad from some of these lovely Peninsula spots to Dingley so maybe it isn't that bad of a shout to attract talent.

I'm pretty sure when we bought, and had that 12 month option for DD, that there was commentary about a 2019/20 initial move. Then that got delayed due to funding, then COVID hit but we had planned for 2022.

It's a massive project, but it's taking a lot of time

An update from the club in January 2020 said end of 2022 - but we all know what happened in that time period.

I wouldn't be expecting us moving in until the end of 2024 the way things are going.

They predicted anywhere between 2021-2026 back in 2016.

Good. Gives them enough time to extend the premiership display to include the 2024 cup.

It seems that it was initially knocked back by Andrews. While Andrews was off work with his broken back, James Merlino, who became acting Premier and a passionate Hawks supporter approved the grant. Andrews, since returning has blocked the grant.
Interestingly James Merlino is standing for election to the board.

Just a note, Melbourne City initially had their base at La Trobe Uni in Bundoora, back in the Melbourne Heart days.

After the purchase from CFG, they've since moved their entire operation to Casey Fields with state of the art facilities (and a lot of funding from Casey and surrounding councils - which will eventually see them build a stadium in Dandenong). They have mutliple pitches, their womens and academy teams are down there, and they've played Australia Cup games there.

Anyway, all their players have constantly said how much they love the facilities, and how they're the best in the league. It's a drawcard to attracting talent. Their players live mostly in the city, Jamie Maclaren lives in Sunbury, yet the commute to Casey isn't scorned by the players because the facilities are elite and they're building a presence there.

Dingley is much more nicely situated than Casey for our players. With state of the art facilities, the final piece we need to make this work is to bring the "soul" of the club there too. That will be the greatest challenge. Community and fan involvement will be key.
