Prediction Your 2024 "Breakout" player?

One player is the obvious breakout player:

Will be 22 when the games start. Played 46 games. Will have completed his 4th preseason. Harry Schoenberg.

Another one that fits the mold would be Lachlan Sholl. 5 preseasons, will be 23 when the season starts. 38 games.

Both these players have shown flashes that their best is good enough to be elite at AFL level. They now have the fitness base and foundation to put it all together.

How about a new category:

Your 2023 "Break-in" player

Which player with 10 games or less will come in a play between 17-22 games in 2023? Doesn't have a Fogarty like "breakout season", just has to be consistent best 22.

More than yours ;)

It's less about ever being correct, and more about constantly bragging about watching juniors. Spare time flex.

That was more so some great guidance from James Rahilly with his one on one work with Fog. Rahilly mentioned it several times in his interviews that he had made it a real focus for Fog to make the footy his focus not his opponent.

Rahilly certainly took credit for it. Not sure that he was backed up by the player.

“I think, as well, it was just a little bit of luck and being backed by the team and the coaches that gave me a little bit of confidence to play better football,” Fogarty said.

“It sort of takes a bit of the weight off the shoulders and you can focus on helping other people and trying to keep improving your own game so it makes it a bit easier.”

Murray is an option to be a backup ruckman, but not a lead imo.

With Worrell & Doedee supporting Butts in the backline, it's very doable too if needed.

Nah, he'd get outworked in general play for sure.
I'd throw him in for plenty of CBAs though.

I had my concerns too about TT, but the Collingwood game turned me into a believer.
TT has the talent, but more importantly he has the mental side to really want to be the best he can be.

I have no concerns he will be a gun player for us... touch wood no Hentschel like injury.

I have no concerns when a player has the skill & right attitude.

He is a genuine option to pinch hit for sure.

Playing Worrell & Doedee allows us this option.

We should be building a more flexible side.

We should list out breakout player in games groups.

0-10 games
11-20 games
21-30 games
31-40 games
41+ games

Taylor is my 0-10 games.

I need to check the games played for the rest.

Double break out. One for each Gun.
Hopefully gets his other arm/finger back before the season starts.

I remain of the view that the arm strapping had a Samsons hair like effect and must now stay for the rest of his career.

TT ready to go. Was grabbing some good marks at the end of last season.

Parnell and Worrell.

Pedlar if his body holds up.

Taylor and Nankervis will be good players. Nankervis showed a far bit towards the end of the season. It may be they show a bit and are given some opportunity next year or really step up the year after (2024). Perhaps it will be somewhat truncated over 2 seasons.

Soligo to continue his development along with Rachele. Berry to continue his as well.

I am a little less bullish on Schoenberg, although he has shown enough signs. Even less so on Cook. I hope he surprises me.

Hopefully Butts returns to his earlier form and Murray continues to come on.

I consider both McAdam and Fogarty to have already broken out, along with Rankine.

Hamill can be damaging and breaks the lines. His pace and rebound is important for us. It would be great if he can avoid further concussion and stay injury free for the year. I think we will enjoy what he brings!

There is plenty to work with and be excited about.
Hamill needs to come back from the offseason looking like this.

0-10 - Taylor from Worrell & Pedlar
11-20 - Soligo from Rachele
21-30 - Thilthorpe from Hinge
31-40 - Berry from Hamill
41+ - Fogarty from Schoenberg

I think Zac Taylor will have an impact, liked what I saw in the SANFL. Looked clean with the ball and would often break into space.

Worrell for mine fits the category well. 4th year, given ample time in the SANFL. If Dawson goes to a wing then we need him and Doedee to intercept. Worrell can also call for the ball and rebound, something that is a serious worry for us given Smith's decline & Hamil's lack of demanding the football.

Berry is a stud and expect further improvement from him.

Thilt has developed ok so far. Works hard but really looks like struggles 1 on 1. Looks like hes almost filled out. So far been more useful outside the front arc.

Rachele looked completely gassed after the first month. Even late in games was blowing out. Lot of upside if he can really up his fitness.

Cook is a bit of a worry, has the skills and talent but doesnt seem to love the contest. Needs to stick tackles as a starting point.

Schoenberg doesnt have a good enough work rate and a poor disposal. Long way off at the moment.

1. Berry
2. Worrell
3. Taylor

I think the opposite on Berry. Wouldn't be surprised if he has a bit of a sideways year before taking a bigger leap in 2024. Opposition will put a fair bit of film work and focus into him IMO.

Thilthorpe is still very underweight for his body size. Needs at least another 2-3 preseasons before it all clicks IMO. If he stays injury free - 2025 is when he should start to really dominate IMO.

This is truly embarrassing for you. We come to this sort of forum for many reasons but certainly including to share ideas, the occasional inside intel and genuine specialised knowledge of some posters. That specialised knowledge Mutineer possesses whilst giving a hell of a lot of his time watching Juniors (clearly a passion for him. Sure beats yelling at parked cars that I imagine a number of other posters do for kicks) and freely regularly sharing (inc answering so many questions) with our supporter base. He adds a HELL of lot of value to many in here I imagine based on the respect he is shown by the vast majority on his Juniors opinions.

serious question - do you think you actually add any value STO?
