Squad is short a seam bowling all rounder. Particularly as it was known Green would miss the first Test (possibly the second too).

Aaron Hardie (or even Will Sutherland given nepotism/Vic sycophancy) at 7 (Carey at 6) would have allowed us to play Agar/Swepson, Murphy, Lyon and Cummins.

Reckon Boland will be a handful in England on their seaming wickets but not sure how his 134 km/h length deliveries will go on these dust bowl pitches. Is he renowned as a reverse swing bowler? Not sure he’ll get much tail at his pace.

Still struggling with the pitch preparation... Totally fine with India serving up dry turning pitches. However, making them drier and more decrepit for left handers, because we have more than they do, is actually poor form and in my opinion not in the spirit of the game.

Does the BCCI approach to pitch preparation mean that when India next tours Australia we can prepare pitches with massive cracks on a good length to right handers?

India 1 Rohit Sharma (capt), 2 KL Rahul, 3 Cheteshwar Pujara, 4 Virat Kohli, 5 Suryakumar Yadav, 6 KS Bharat (wk), 7 Ravinda Jadeja, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Axar Patel, 10 Mohammed Shami, 11 Mohammed Siraj

Australia 1 David Warner, 2 Usman Khawaja, 3 Marnus Labuschagne, 4 Steven Smith, 5 Matt Renshaw, 6 Peter Handscomb, 7 Alex Carey (wk), 8 Pat Cummins, 9 Nathan Lyon, 10 Todd Murphy, 11 Scott Boland

Renshaw/Handscomb over Head is unusual.

GTFO. Is there anything sinister behind this??
Head historically been very bad against spin/in Asia, whilst Renshaw/Hanscomb are good players of spin. I don't hate it tbh, rare to see Aus selection be bold instead of safe.

I can't agree with you there. Form player, give him the chance.
He was the form player after the Ashes too and then did nothing with the bat in Pakistan or Sri Lanka.

Got to pick the best team to win, not reward players for past form.

Warner out of form and a career of shitness overseas. Drop him, open with Renshaw and pick Head and Handscombe.
Warner has played 162 games and averages 42 in the IPL. Its obviously a very different form of cricket but he has a lot of experience over in India

You mean current form??

And further to your point, you're punishing a player for past poor form.
It was a month ago in a different country.

Yeah, they are but that's not why they've not picked him. They've picked the team they think gives them the best chance to win.

Head call gutsy but correct. A rare occasion where selectors have been ruthless in holding poor performance accountable.

Pity it didn't extend to Davey though.
