Someone in the club pushed Ross out and Jlo in.

That is 100% on them.

So far jlo is underperforming
Did someone push Ross out or did winning 2 of our last 10 games in 2019 after 4 consecutive years out of finals push Ross out?

He won 29/88 games in his last four years with us, 33%. JL has won 35/68 so far with us, 51%. If JL is underperforming I can't understand how what Ross was doing was acceptable.

Ross was shit, boring and over it. It was time.

Interesting to see RTB having a laugh at the end of the game - he knew they didn’t deserve to be in a position to salvage it - seems to be in a happy place with his coaching atm. Speaking of gun coaching, did you see Hinkley getting close and personal with JHF in the pouring rain - good stuff.

Except the players were exhausted under him and it was coming apart. Ask anyone involved then not named Walters or Fyfe and you’ll get a similar response. We needed a fresh start, it will be the same thing in a few years with Saints
You may have missed the pregame interview with Pavlich.

Everyone is so quick to say this.

Did you see the team Ross had at the end of his freo tenure? Was basically a WAFL side.

If we stuck with Ross and had our current list, we’d be undefeated.
We were all sick of the campaigner. Sick of his increasingly irritating peccadilloes, sick of the players busting their guts for a inflexible game plan and doing inane shit like counting where players should be in the field. It was ****ing shit.

I see Dangerfield is given god status treatment by the MRO this year.

That eye gauge on Ginbey was dead set intentional … as was the stud raise to his face in the marking contest.

If Toby Greene did the face kick alone he’d be on a 5 week break …. But it’s Danger, a good bloke y’know… so nothing.

In those 4 years, would JL have done better? Was the side at the time going through a rebuild or contending for finals? The teams that were put out in 2017 and 2018 were barely AFL standard, surely that's an agreeable statement. Is 51% this far into the rebuild with a much better list than Lyon had actually acceptable? JL might work out and I didn't mind the selection but the truth is we did push out a proven good coach at the very first chance to bring him in, and so far early in the season it's not looking like a stellar decision.

Ross was not good when he was sacked. It took him spending years out of the game to become a decent coach again. Maybe JL wasn't the best choice for coach, but Ross was not the answer. He had to go. His list with the saints now is ridled with injury just like his list at freo was. And he's making it work just fine.

If i'm a Coke shareholder i'd be pretty pissed off if they handed out delivery contracts to whoever is in front of them without seeing if they could get a better deal somewhere else.
They went out to market. Last year. Got a great deal for them. ($14m, I think the SA government stumped up?)

The vendor fulfilled their end of the deal, so their contract got renewed.

The customer (the AFL) gets a proven product from a vendor that has a track record of delivering. All without any additional procurement costs.

That's the way business is done every day of the week.

Ross and Saints will content in 23, lots of good players still to come back.

Whoever sacked Ross should be under the microscope right now.
How many shitty losing seasons did you want the club to go through?

2016 was the WORST season EVER in VFL/AFL history by a minor premier. And yet somehow Ross Lyon is a great coach. Really?

He is lucky he survived past Oct 2016.

Some strange revisionist stuff going here, he had Fyfe, Mundy and Neale in the midfield those years and still couldn’t work out a winning game plan. Ditched some solid soldiers in De Boer, Barlow and Muz, not to mention Sam Collins and others. In favour or Crozier and Sheridan. Yet people’s are defending him.
He was done here and is responsible for a half hearted rebuild that included bringing players like Kirsten, Bennell, Hogan and Lobb to try and salvage his own job despite never taking ownership of the debacle that was the 2016 preseason when he left Hale in charge.
People seem to have very short memories around here.

Love RTB but iirc we got beaten 3 games in a row by over 100 points and also a consecutive goals record of 23 in one game, even with a weak list that's just totally unacceptable and there is obviously serious problems at the top.

"Is 51% this far into the rebuild ... actually acceptable?"

No. It's not.

But just because Longmuir is underperforming doesn't get Lyon a free pass. His last 4 years were terrible.

Picking Longmuir is looking like a poor decision. But that doesn't mean that sacking Lyon was wrong.

I see a few people have found some brand new Ross-coloured glasses. Ross is a great coach and the Saint's performance doesn't surprise me. That doesn't change the fact that at Fremantle he was done. Ross needed a break and the club needed a break from him.

Wot if RTB just had the balls to see that we couldn't win a flag with that 2016 group and deliberately bit the rebuild bullet before anyone realised it had left the barrel? Does that even make sense? If not, you need to drink more.
