Shouldn't be a 50 50 game against a team that barely has enough fit players and who's twos lost 217-48 and 161-53 the last two weeks

I know skyhorse. But I don’t do pencil inns. Let’s see what happens. I will
watch and support like all of us.

We change quick don't we... I remember seeing a fair few posts saying we're being silly for talking about the Crows game being dangerous and that it will be an easy win stop worrying. Now we're saying playing the Eagles WAFL team is a 50-50 game at best. Amazing how quickly it has changed.

I like this chat about Weiters playing a more intercepting role than lockdown role. I've long thought he was a great interceptor since his first year. I remember the very first thing you noticed about him as an 18 yr old was just how well he read the play and how well he intercepted, he played that role like a 10 year vet in year 1. Somewhere along the line that role sort of drifted out of his game and he turned in to a 1v1 defender only.

I could make a fairly strong case that he should be a 2x AA Full Back but the truth is he was beaten out by intercepting types. Obviously they are viewed as more valuable than a lockdown defender. Lever was traded for first round picks and he's a bang average 1v1 defender. McGovern was talked about as the best key back in the game for years in the media and by coached, meanwhile fans used to joke that he never played on anyone. Even Darcy Moore could be considered the same as all anyone really talks about is his attacking game. He gives up 3 or 4 goals in a game and all the talks about how good he was because he got a few interceptions and started a rebound.

So clearly the intercepting type is seen as more damaging. We have (imo) an elite one in Weits but he's used as a dour defender instead. While he may be one of, if not the best, 1v1 key back in the game the blunt truth is that's not as valuable as someone who turns the ball from defence to attack. He doesn't have the pace and athleticism of Moore or McGovern but he reads the ball as well as McGov and is a better kick than both. Why not try using him as an offensive weapon instead of defensive, make the attacking team think "Where's Weiters, don't want to kick it into his space". I doubt they do that now.
great point. the best defenders from other teams aren't usually pure lockdown anymore

Should win this. We really should monster them BUT we saw the Norf game and that's when I really started to worry.

To be honest, we just need to get through unscathed, bank the 4 points because the month after it is:

Brizzy
Doggies
Pies
Swans

Anyone care to say we win any more than one of those?

Looking at it half full:

Swans look just as yo-yo as us if not more.

We usually matchup pretty well with the Doggies.

Brizzy will be hard, but they don't travel well.

Pies games are always close.

Its not a 50-50 game, we'll win but it will be the same old same old - we'll limp over the line by 13 points against a team we should be flogging by 10 goals if we are vaguely serious.

And Melbourne then Essendon after the four mentioned above.

We won't win one of them.

They've got nothing to lose, and we have everything to lose. Let's go on sample data of when we have everything to lose... let me point to our final 4 rounds of the 2022 season where we would lose playing finals if we didn't win one. We're not very good when we have everything to lose.

Eagles at home, our travelling of recent years isn't great, can't see us taking risks this week as nothing has led me to believe our coaches will eradicate our conservative approach. So I can see us having 500 possessions, 70 i50s, kicking 9 goals, conceding 38 i50s and losing by 7 points.

We most likely and should win, we'll just scrape by maybe by a goal or two and we'll pat ourselves on the back of getting the W... when if we were a ruthless mob, who should be treating 23 as a year of taking that leap into finals consistency, we should be winning this by a minimum of 8 goals.

People are silly, we've been playing the same putrid footy all year, just flattered by the draw.

I tipped Adelaide and St Kilda without a 2nd thought :(

Voss then hails our boys as heroes for responding and getting across the line in another close game.....despite the fact it shouldn't have been close to begin with.

And in that win, LOB plays the whole game (in for Motlop), gets 8 possessions, 1 tackle, 0.1 score missing from a slight angle 30m out on the run and 0 pressure acts and will stay in the side for his magnificent contribution, whilst in the VFL, Dow get 45 possessions, kicks 3, lays 6 tackles, plays 3/4 of the game with a Selwood bandage on his noggin and won't even feature on the extended bench the following week.

THIS is the problem. Hopefully only for the media. If thats the speech behind close doors then we ae seriously screwed. This should be 10+ goal win.

Dogs & swans - Bris-Vegas a chance also.

Saad & Doc back will make a big diff.

One of the mods mentioned this in the wrap up thread after the St Kilda game, I think Jeremias? In any case, speaking with those kind of platitudes in the media is a very quick way to lose a fanbase/attract media heat.

Fans aren't stupid, we know when we're playing a game that should be a 50 point win, or are on top of the game for 3 qtrs only to poop ourselves in the 4th again. We know those aren't good results, so Voss coming out and saying he's proud of the fight to just get over the line, or that Harry is just a good team mate for passing the ball... that's all a load of shite.

The quickest way to lose a fanbase is to disrespect them. Voss' platitudes are starting to get insulting. We had it with Bolton, we had it with Teague, now we're getting it with Voss. Just be honest with us, we know what we're watching ffs.
