Enjoyed that game, agree with Snuf except the description of Brodie’s game. He was BOG before getting tagged, worked through the tag and was close to BOG. He used his legs to drive out of clearance and was very dynamic.
Brodie is going to do that every week at the level, I was probably too harsh but I stand by saying that’s not a performance that gets him back in the side. 8 tackles will get him a closer look and under no circumstance should Henry have more tackles than him

He was being used as the hit guy (targeted by ruckman) for the clearance. Agree his defensive running in transition didn’t look elite. But it’s hard to judge off an iPhone screen :)

Yep. Missed shepherd opportunities too. He seemed to play a high level of minutes though which is a positive but I can see why, his work is generally in very, very short bursts.

Adding some additional thoughts to Snuffs:

  • Whilst Henry did have a very good game, he still had a lot of his kicks dropped short of the man which is something he will need to work on. However, on the other side of the coin the intent of the kicks and speed of the decisions he was making was really good. Handballing was also excellent. Played a reasonable amount of time in the centre square as well (probably around 30%). 26 disposals is okay.
  • Emmett I think maybe it has taken him some time to get moving but I have felt that the last two weeks he has actually looked like a player that could play AFL. His movement is much better than when he first started and he is more consistent with his disposal.
  • Draper's inside 50s were really nice kicks and his midfielder like movement for a 196cm frame is impressive. Still only 13 possessions though, I think he needs to be aiming to getting around 20 to put himself in the frame for a HBF/Third Tall defender range like Chapman previously did for himself in his first season.
  • Worner was a lot neater with his disposal today than he has been and was very efficient and he had decent numbers too; for comparison though would you bring in Draper or Worner into the AFL? I think Draper provides more options from a defensive perspective and better disposal but I suppose is a season behind and might not have Worner's endurance.
  • Whilst Sturt did have a shocker in front of goals; he also was in the game a lot of the day and racked up 24 disposals, 7 marks and 3 tackles in addition to the goal shots, which might go more towards the staying in the game that he has been criticized for.
  • As I said earlier in the day, Brodie was basically being sat on like they were previously sitting on Erasmus earlier in the season. For my part I thought he only had an okay game / pass mark and went in and out of the game a bit despite the stats.
  • for mine Corbett was just a non-entity in that game; I hardly noticed him and the stats also tell us he had almost no involvement with only 4 kicks for a behind.
  • In terms of Kuek, additionally to what Snuff said, worth noting he spent time in the ruck today and I thought was pretty useful there. I am surprised that he doesn't do / get that opportunity that more often because if he was coming into the senior side I would expect it would be to provide backup in that department.

Sturt missing a few sodas isn't an issue if he is doing everything else right.
They weren't soda's but they weren't hard

All were about 30 degree angle from the 50 arc, they all seemed to swing with the breeze

One was from the boundary 45 out so that was hard

One was a snap he should've put away

He wasn't getting his touched on the lines paid as bEhinds either, had like 1.4 (if counted) and an ootf in the end

Now that I have thought about it, Sturt not dropping his head after being sent to Peel and playing well is a great sign of his development.
He looked like a player that went back to wafl level and thought "wow I've got much more space"

He is an AFL player IMO, will make it emif given the opportunity

The dropping worked well. He played with determination and showed the endeavour that's been lacking.

I'm certain the subbing of Treacy on Saturday night will have the same effect. Shows these blokes aren't snowflakes, they're pro sportsmen who understand when they haven't played well and thrive on honest feedback so they can improve.

Henry: Really good game. Ran hard, pressured hard, took the right option every time which involved some more difficult kicks. Needs to be the standard for him to get an AFL spot back. Even had some onball time which I like for some contested ball development.
Sturt: Noticeably better than last year. Had some fantastic defensive chases and acts to force turnovers. If he'd kicked straight he'd be best on IMO, terrific performance. Kicking for goals has strangely left him for the moment because he should have kicked 5 really
Brodie: While I didnt watch hard enough to know if it was his fault, I dont think I've seen so many loose men through the midfield and rebound at Peel this year and it's an odd co-incidence it was Brodie playing. Dominant at the ground ball despite a tag but I dont remember too many stand out defensive acts which is whats going to keep him out of AFL.
Corbett: Some good leads and clunks, almost a good game. Limited mark / lead player but he played his role
Kuek: First time I've noticed him looking much bigger for some reason. Threatened to completely dominate but couldnt quite put it all together. Going to be an interesting decision with his list spot at the end of the year because he feels like he's THIS close to being too good for WAFL level
Wilson: Absolutely dominant with intercept and incredible run and disposal as usual, doing everything he can to get back into the side
Draper: Some horseshit umpiring cost him for basically never being beaten. Moves so so well for his size and his disposal and decision making for his age is fantastic. Basically never fumbles. Convinced we have a player here
Davies: One absolute howler and a one poor final quarter poor effort aside, another game to build on. Always calm, getting better in the 1v1 contests and is a campaigner
Wagner: Much better game, didnt make any mistakes I can remember with his usual run and dare and long ball movement
Worner: I think his biggest improvement is the way he reads the ball and his contest work, it's getting seriously good. Still let down by the odd kick by I'm growing to bringing him in to the AFL side
Emmett: He has some braindead disposals but I honestly think there is a bit to like. Basically a bigger Schultz
Hamling: Lost so much mobility with that foot injury, still our best depth option but I wonder if they keep him next year. Fun little forward cameo in the last quarter
A very good report here
