If we do, it wouldn't be a great sign for the other guy.

We may just keep a spot open.

Looking like the most likely outcome IMO.

If it were up to me there’s two ways we should be going about it if we add anyone:
1. Find the best state league or delisted player in the country to provide depth in a certain role (most likely small forward) and don’t really care about ceiling.
2. Pick a raw 18/19 year old talent in a position we’ll need in 2-3 years and give said player time to develop.

Dudley isn’t really either but Lowe was pretty close to option 1.

If it’s a small forward and about next year I think forward pressure is actually the most important thing. We’ll have better draft selections to find a future best 22 small forward with more tricks at the end of next season.

Winder for option 1, but probably the wrong type of player.

Toner or Bradley for option 2.

Just watched Bradley's highlights, and his skills look a bit questionable, and he lacks a left foot. (based on a 30 second highlight video)
Evan Bradley was probably one of the better small forwards left on my board after the draft.

I suppose the question is whether he's any better than Jack Delean.

Unless Delean can massively improve his tank massively, then he won't make it. He shouldn't be near coming in last in time trials.

Honestly, just sign up Dudley to a 1 year rookie deal and see if he can work on his tank over the preseason. We haven't had any success at all in keeping a spot open for the MSD (unlike the SSP, which has been good for us), at least with a full preseason he can get to know the system and work on his fitness in a professional AFL environment.

If he shows a bit at WAFL level we can extend the rookie contract another year (and get Pickett over in the meantime)

We’ve trialled probably close to 15 players in the SSP and only signed Voss so far.

That’s not counting Sharp and Narkle who were basically signed through a rookie list equivalent of Delisted Free Agency.

Those other players that trained with us but never got picked up have never been picked up by someone else going off my memory. There’s a genuine reason for that. Dudley being a 168cm small forward who can’t run always seemed an odd choice as a train on for me.

Yep, agree with this. And at his height he should get a heap of Hawthorn-style head high frees.
He must have shown enough at SANFL level to be given a trial.

Give Toner a crack, keep Dudley into the next part of the Pre-season. Likely outcome is we hold over that spot for the MSD.

This other young fella mentioned Bradley is a very raw rookie. It is clear the club were looking at a more mature aged option. Toner is above aged from memory so worth a train-on.

Can’t hurt to keep on Dudley and see how hard he works by himself over the break. I wouldn’t be signing him just for the sake of signing him. Make him impress and demand selection.

Once again the work was piling up on my desk, so I couldn't see the whole sesh today. Sounds like there's a few amateur reporters on deck today so I'm sure it will all be covered by others.

  • Glad it isn't me having to do runs with a 20kg barbell - good on Darcy but truly, **** that. He was singing along to the playlist today so obviously having a good time. Looking very good to me.
  • Very kind of them to wear numbers today
  • Draper has beefed up a fair bit
  • Gosh it's nice to have some kids coming through with good kicking (think Amiss, Coops, Bruce, Treacy)
  • Admittedly I'm a huge Fyfe stan but **** he's still exciting. If he can improve his season longevity by 1 game from last year, we make finals with ease. Like Walters, that man is going to be part of our inaugural premiership or he will die trying.
  • Narkle and Darcy approaching their separate drills very diligently. Narkle looks sooo good in purple.
  • How does serong manage to run and stay agile with those massive hams for legs
  • TTHD noms: Noddy, Darcy, Matty J
  • Brodie fans look away. Gosh he is a lazy player. For all the criticisms Fyfe gets about not providing defensive run, at least he shepherds, blocks and tackles for his teammates. He also goes hard at contests, Brodie seems to almost pretend to go in hard and then pulls up in the last second, leaving himself worse off.
  • Treacys season was not a one hit wonder. Bloke constantly TTHD. Gave a bit of lip to sharpy when the forward entry was a nothing floater 😂
  • Noddy & Freddy combining at full speed is beautiful and I'm glad it's something they are working on. That's gonna looking absolutely sweet streaming across optus stadium with a full house.
That's it from me for this year! Enjoy your Xmas to all those that celebrate, let's hope this year's pressie is the 2025 cup 🤞

Heave ho!

I popped down for a bit, saw everyone huddled up in the middle jumping around singing. I don’t know if that’s something they usually do?

Everyone was in good spirits, looking back maybe the announced Young had resigned?

Darcy looks really good, hoping the big man can have a good run at it

Heave ho!
I love you man.

Great to be free to pop in for an hour and a half today. Now a disclaimer: going along was all about me and my mental wellness. I didn’t go wired to be critical. Therefore this is likely written through a lens of optimism. Don’t like it? Move on.

Darcy is impressive. He looks super fit and despite the heat, he trained with purpose. When doing it solo, this can’t be easy. He looked a man possessed. And Narkle showed similar determination.

With our need for small forwards, I was hoping to be impressed by Delean. He was talked up a lot on here last year. Just don’t see it. Dropped a sitter and brought back all those 2013 Sheridan memories.

During a Handball drill number 38 laid a big tackle. Before I could identify him, the coach called him out for another big effort. Jaren Carr. Exciting. In the same drill, Johnson impressed with his hip strength, breaking numerous tackles.

Scratch match observations

Banners should wear the number 20 and assume the role of Kepler and Tabs love child. He dropped a simple mark from Amiss. Under pressure, he then wheeled and goaled from 45m on an angle.

Amiss is clearly stronger in contest. Two strong marks in first 4mins.

Voss. Big, fit unit. Strong goal from 50 against breeze. Really pushing himself in interval running after game simulation.

O Driscoll won an impressive two on one and looked good throughout training but his foot skills were dubious at times.

Tracey took a strong mark on Pearce with a goal. Then we had a Rinse and repeat after immediate clearance from Reidy. Very exciting 90 seconds.

Shai Bolton. Full speed through midfield. Weaving through defenders. Lace out to Frederick. Goal. Beautiful.

Dudley? crumbed greys first goal. Had second shot a few minutes later. Played on. 15 m out on very slight angle. Missed.

I'm liking this 'lens of optimism'

Train observation from others have summed up my thoughts and not much point in repeating them.

I'll be brief by saying
Tracey looks absolutely primed for a massive year. Too strong for our captain.

Bolton looks to centre and drill the ball pin point. Gee he will change our inside 50s.

Fredricks looks a beast this pre season during the match sim

Amiss has built himself up perfectly and is kicking straight just like Tracey

Young looks like he needs to rehab his right leg. He looks sore.

Brayshaw is primed for a massive season

And finally Darcey is fighting fit and strong.

Merry Christmas ya campaigners
