Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Random thing to say this.

Crazy to think Michael Walters is the last docker left from that 2008 AFL draft.

Yeah he was pick 56. Walters has always been a hard worker and kept himself fit.

I just thought of Stephen Hill. He was pick 3 in that 2008 draft too and same age as Walters.

I'm sort of gutted Stephen Hill broke down with injury late in his career.

If he wasn't constantly injured, he would still be on the list too.
You have to wonder if Hilly was being managed by Merrimen instead of Weber if he’d still be playing

Depending on cost Naughton would be a huge get. Imagine Brayshaw winning the clearance, breaks away clean, looks inside 50 and he has Amiss, Naughton, Fyfe, Jackson, or Treacy to kick to..
If there is any substance to this, then I doubt Treacy would stay if Naughton came across. He might even be part of the trade. 😕

I want to see Treacy re-sign with us real soon. Would hate to see him leave, and certainly not uncontracted as steak knives in an uber expensive Naughton trade. Gross.

I think the play for Naughton at this stage involves suggestions of a term and average per year starting from 2025 season so that if another club does get him to request a trade end of this year they are paying an appropriate figure.

I don't think Naughton goes to Sydney on under a million a year if there is an offer of that value on the table elsewhere.

I'm more worried about the trade currency Dogs would have and a hole on their list the size of Tim English to fill.

Dogs could hold #7, #12, #15, two future firsts.

How much of that do you think they want to spend to buy a ruck or a pick #1?

Sweet baby Jesus. You dont knock back Naughton if he were keen.
Until Brayshaw kicks it over their head and then the ball is back in opposition hands. And then we really don't want all of those guys in the forward line at the same time because they are a total liability from a defensive perspective.....

Naughton and Fyfe may be defensive liabilities in the forward line but Treacy, Jackson and Amiss are definitely not defensive liabilities in my opinion.

We've literally just sold the farm for a player. Getting Naughton would mean scarificing one of our good players because we literally have zero currency at the moment. They're not going to let him go for a future first or whatever. Especially while he's still contracted. Our forward line looks good for the first time in forever largely because of the players we've drafted in. Jackson has worked because he can play literally anywhere on the ground.
My first part of the post says 'Depending on the cost'. I wouldn't want have to trade for him while hes contracted but he's currently better than any forward on our list so I'd certainly consider it if he were keen on his end.

That's not to say I'm unhappy with our current set-up. Its been working well the last few weeks and we probably dont need him if they continue improving.

Angus probably would but Andy would hit a target....most of the time.

Plus Treacy and Jackson are decent at applying pressure. Amiss has improved a lot in that area as well.

And thats the sad thng to think about...

Wasnt the reason Stephen Hill piled up the injuries because Ross Lyon or one of the coaching staff advised him to bulk up his body to add more strength in his body, rather than focus on his actual best part about him which was his endurance and pace?

Again... I loved Stephen Hill. Take away his 2013 season when he played 19 games. from 2009, which was his debut season until 2016, he played at least 20 or 21 games. He very rarely got injured in his 1st half of his career.

I love bringing up the Stephen hill vs Walters comparison.

Hill was pick 3, Walters was pick 53 in that 2008 draft. Hill being an early pick, got plenty of games from 2009-2012.

Walters slowly developed but broke through half way into the 2012 season.

Those soft tissue injuries killed us from 2012. McPharlin especially in 2015, I think it was, when he missed out on finals.

I LOVE Walters. Being a small forward myself, him, ballas and Farmer are my favourite dockers of all time.

But Walters has not always been a hard worker who kept himself fit. Part of what made Lyon a success at the dockers was turning the lazy players in to hard workers, and Walters was THE laziest.

Ross had to send him away to Swan districts to train with them instead because he had run out of ideas to make Walters lose his extra weight. Ross Lyon turning a lazy, overweight pick 56 in to one of our best forwards ever is something people should not forget.

Sonny and his special lady friend were also just about to have a kid or had just had one when that happened. That’s pretty good motivation to pull your finger out too.

In talks with Amiss for a 3 year extension (until 2028)
'Fremantle are in early discussions to lock highly-rated young forward Jye Amiss in for the long-term amid his hot start to the season.
The West Australian understands talks started between the Dockers and Amiss’ manager, Paul Peos of Inside 50 Player Management, several weeks ago.
The second-year forward has already signed a two-year extension late last season in addition to his initial draft contract, tying him to the club until at least the end of 2025.'

Awesome news. And managed by Paul Peos. Wow there's a name I haven't heard in a long time. Wonder if there are any other Freo boys managed by Peos.
