Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

yep. We are obviously are going all in for cup by 2025 or bust. Publicly stated it, players know it, contracts show it, players age profile reflects it, current results indicate it. Takes a lot of everything coming together and a pinch of luck, but club knows 2024/25 are ripe for the picking.
Not sure if we'll be a bust if we don't get there. Still a young list that can go beyond 2025.

Son Son is a dead set legend, close to my favourite Freo player ever.

lol at people that wanted to send him to the glue factory during a form slump last year, without him we we very likely LOSE this final and miss out on INvaluable learning experience that night and next week for a young team.

I ****in lost the plot in the crowd when he kicked that goal at 4.45 lol.

Lobb, Mundy, Acres, Logue all featured in that video.

Going to be controversial here, but I think Treacy has the ability to become nearly as good a mark as Naughton (albeit without the huge leap), but a superior set shot and, most importantly a foil for Jye due to his superior footy IQ. Kid is a crazy smart footballer (as is Amiss), and they make each other better. So much better than the Keystone cop routine we saw from Lobb and Tabs (and currently the Bullies).

In short, we already have the KPFs we need, no need to upset the team balance by throwing a massive contract at Naughts.

Yeah, we've got Corbett in the wings. I'd look to add another youthful kpf to add depth rather than feel the need to bring in a saviour. As said, we've got the two that should start for the next decade.
We need to look for someone to either play with them, not surplant them.

Sonny is probably our best and most proven finals player. Even last year when so many were writing him off he stepped up massively.
we don't win the dogs game without him

likewise, was right in front of me and was about a minute after he should've gotten a free in basically the same spot?

Thought that was common knowledge.

Interesting call on Sean Darcy and forget the media hype around him, I was told from a reliable source early this year that he was off at seasons end and Freo would be throwing the kitchen sink at Naughton.
Not sure what the time frame is for the signing, all I’ll say is, whoever your sauce is, mine is better.

Anyone not happy with Walters' or Fyfe getting 2 years is missing the bigger picture. Imagine the youngsters drive this team to the precipice of the ultimate success and in that moment when they're facing an unknown struggle, we don't have two veterans who've made a Granny there to guide them and calm the storm? I know Dogga's been there, but he strikes me as a bit more 'Air Bud' than 'Braveheart'

Move is as much about culture as on-field performance. Hit the balance just right for me.

Actually if you wanna get more technical and more accurate..... We have a few players that played in a grand final.

Yes Walters and fyfe are the only 2 blokes left from our 2013 grand final squad. Lachie Neale is the other bloke not retired but at Brisbane.

James Aish played in a grand final for Collingwood in 2018.

Luke Jackson got a premiership medal in 2021 from the demons.

Joel Hamling got a premiership 🏅 medal in 2016 with the dogs too.

Random thing to say this.

Crazy to think Michael Walters is the last docker left from that 2008 AFL draft.

Yeah he was pick 56. Walters has always been a hard worker and kept himself fit.

I just thought of Stephen Hill. He was pick 3 in that 2008 draft too and same age as Walters.

I'm sort of gutted Stephen Hill broke down with injury late in his career.

If he wasn't constantly injured, he would still be on the list too.

Hmm, I think Treacy is not as good and will never be as good as Naughton. He’ll definitely never be close to as good a mark as Naughton who is one of the best marks in the game.

I’d say Treacy’s ceiling is like a Mihocek and given the difference in contract values both now and in their prime, I think there’s merit behind that being a better option for us anyway.

I’d love to know the list team’s thoughts on the best way to improve the list. Worth remembering it’s never as good as it seems as well…
An elite small forward and a goal kicking mid/forward, and a goal kicking winger in the Isaac smith style.
All bigger needs than Naughton. Pickett would have been perfect

This is a great example of how reactionary this board is

Naughton is a massive need for us, he'd be a massive get

I personally think we have 0 chance of getting him but I'd definitely run the roulette and give up 2 firsts for him again, as long as it doesn't cost us someone too important cap wise

I genuinely think he is 0 chance though so it won't matter but jeez I can't imagine turning down a fit Naughton if he asked the question

There's a big difference between chasing a player with offers and having that player wanting to move to your club too.

Naughton would make our squad better. He would also have a cost to our squad. People are entitled to draw a line through current output in a tall forward line across to our own should it also feature Naughton and ask if that cost to our squad will be worth that output or if it can be allocated to another area of need for a greater overall impact.

Such as the choice spend money on securing Jackson, Young, Serong over retaining Lobb, Acres and Logue.

We’ve got our goal kicking mid/forward in the form of a 198cm labrador puppy

Naughton takes the spectacular pack contested mark, 30m out on a very slight angle…..
Goes back, strides in, ugly ball drop and misses the ...kn lot.
Similar to our very own John Hutton who had a shocking ball drop but was a very good shot on goal….think Levi Casboult but way more accurate….

Depending on cost Naughton would be a huge get. Imagine Brayshaw winning the clearance, breaks away clean, looks inside 50 and he has Amiss, Naughton, Fyfe, Jackson, or Treacy to kick to..

Sweet baby Jesus. You dont knock back Naughton if he were keen.
We've literally just sold the farm for a player. Getting Naughton would mean scarificing one of our good players because we literally have zero currency at the moment. They're not going to let him go for a future first or whatever. Especially while he's still contracted. Our forward line looks good for the first time in forever largely because of the players we've drafted in. Jackson has worked because he can play literally anywhere on the ground.
