With that said I'm not advocating for us to lose both remaining games, just that it's not a huge deal for us to miss finals this year
I agree.

Last night, we took our shot. It was clear that our makeshift defence won't stand up in finals pressure.

It would be nice for the kids to see a final, but we can't push deep. Away umpiring makes it worse.

Oh boy, playing with the predictor they are so many results which can impact and it will get adjusted every time a result is known.

At this point there are still 3 positions available and today the best outcomes are Hawks, Richmond and Port.

Assuming results go according, if we did make finals in either 7th or 8th it would be more than likely against either Carlton or Bulldogs at the G. Righto, where is the lube?

The problem with predicting based on betting odds is that Round 24 throws up a lot of snags. For example, Melbourne might not be able to get 1st or 2nd by then, so might actually be better off resting players which would help Sydney.

The chance of us making finals is slim.

One positive of the week off between the end of the minor round and the first week of finals is that there is now actually quite a disincentive to rest players. Two full weeks of no Football is far from ideal preparation for a final.

If the favourites win all their games and we somehow beat the Swans, we'll probably grab 8th place and a trip to the MCG to face Carlton. A repeat of 2001.
And a repeat of the umpiring from the 2012 Prelim Final against Hawthorn no doubt.

Could make the 2016 GF umpiring look fair…

If Dogs go down here, there's a fair chance we can get 8th with two wins, with the Sydney v Melbourne game determining whether it's us or Sydney staying in.
Hawks looking good. Although they are kicking for goal like us last 10mins. Hawks will be the big improver next year. Mitchell is a decent coach. The good thing is that melb likely need to beat swans to get a home final first week. Should be a great match at the scg. In saying that I think the cats or swans will get the last finals spot.

We had a chance at a home final but I don't really see much upside in finishing 8th and getting through purely because results fell our way.

Might be best to cop our medicine this season

I mean, it's getting that monkey off our back and getting some of our kids to experience a final. Of course, depending on the match up, it might even mean a semi-final.

Regardless though, we're not a major threat this year. Our defensive game just isn't good enough.

The most obvious path is:

-Win both our games
-GWS to lose two their last three (Port, Ess, Blues)
-Geelong to beat the Dogs in last game
-Brisbane to beat St Kilda in the last game

If those things happen, it makes Geelong v St Kilda and Sydney v Melbourne game irrelevant to us.

It starts with Port today. How ironic.
