Few boys lowered their colours today…it’s understandable after a long winning run that a few of them mentally would have been on auto pilot today…literally nothing on the line for us

Self preservation mode set it after acres went off

Fish, Cunners, Fog, Cinc, would all be nervous

I’m in a reflective mood. The elimination Final is far away so I’m soaking in the satisfaction of Carlton playing in a final. I’m thinking of my first finals series in 1967. We were a team without finals experience for the vast majority of players but it was such an important stepping stone for the years that followed. I’m hoping for a win but whatever the result I’m sensing the start of a journey that will result in this team being better for the experience. Go Blues.

I just got home from the game an put it on Fox sports,it put up the draw of the finals being played with all grounds stated other than Saints game TBC.
I found it strange they wouldn't put it as MCG as per the other games.

That is a bit strange.

They should be playing at the MCG.

Already buzzing for it. Was Sydney who last bundled us out 10 years ago in the semi. Funny we have them first up now. Cripps and Docherty back will be massive. Think we should consider Boyd in for Fisher. Pittonet and Motlop also. Hoping for good news on Acres and Weiters hopefully is cleared.

Just want the boys to give it a red hot crack. I think we can give them massive problems at the G. So nice to finally be back in the last 8.

That is a bit strange.

The Saints and GWS should be playing at the MCG.

The AFL needs to fixture finals matches at grounds big enough to cater for club fanbases.

Unfortunately, the AFL is struggling to find something smaller than Moorabbin...

:p :p :p

That kind of injury Acres suffered is one that nearly all the time sees someone out for 5+ weeks.

Call me glass half empty, but Acres will be a HUGE loss for our side. Our only proper, experienced wingman. Much of our failures last year were due to the lack of connection between our back and front ends. He pretty much was the solution and now that solution is going to be taken away from us again. Cottrell and Hollands are okay, but neither are mature nor produce the similar numbers on paper.
At the moment, our best hope to cover his absence would be Docherty. Someone who can produce the similar work rate, but doesn't quite have the matching stamina or at least that of the level he used to.

Sure we survived without Cerra and Walsh for a bit. But the middle is an easier position to cover for us.

Should it happen, losing Weitering for one week doesn't bother me as much, especially if it is Young or S.Durdin stepping in for him. It's Sydney's smaller players that concern me more than their taller ones.

In: Cripps, Docherty, Motlop, Pittonet
Out: Marchbank (Sub), C Durdin, Fisher, Fogarty

Newman Weitering** Kemp
Cincotta McGovern Saad*
Acres* Cripps Hollands
Cottrell McKay Martin
Motlop C Curnow Owies
Pittonet Hewett Cerra

Walsh De Koning Cuningham Docherty

Sub: Dow

  • If Acres doesn't come up, then Fisher stays in and plays the sweeping role across half back while Cottrell plays wing the whole game.
  • If Saad doesn't come up, then again it's Fisher who stays in and runs off half back. If both Acres and Saad don't come out, I'd bring in Boyd.
** If Weitering is suspended, I feel we need a solid tall defender back there. I'd bring in Sam Durdin to be the rock the others revolve around.

I realise people will think Fogarty is pretty unlucky to be out as we need his defensive pressure. He only had 1 tackle against the Giants, but I've also dropped Durdin who had 6 tackles. Reasoning is that Motlop is more dynamic and McKay was ineffective as a second ruck. I don't like the idea of having McKay, TDK and Pittonet in the same side but we need more than just a resting second ruck as our second tall forward. I'd honestly bring in JSOS for Harry if he was available. Anyway, somebody has to make way for the extra ruck and I'd rather lose the more dour Fogarty than the promise of what Cuningham can do in a more intense side.

Footnote: It's really hard to select a side based on the Giants game as we were only going at half intensity.

On Blacres - i'm no doctor, but it was suggested that if it's the AC joint , then it's a matter of getting the injection which will allow him to play . Can anyone confirm

Cripps , Doc, motlop and pittonet comes in
Fisher , fog , durdin , and perhaps Hollands or cincotta go out.
Sub will be Dow. He is lucky but has probably earned his place
