So Brad's goal is that we need 2 players to add that next layer with (Bailey) Williams (Pick 35), (Luke) Edwards (pick 52), (Noah) Long (Pick 58), and (Elijah) Hewett (Pick 14)?

Based on these picks reckon we probably have a decent chance of doing that with Pick 1 and Pick 19 Brad...
His takes are normally better than this too.

He was behind Gawn at the Dees, and then he was number 1 ruck at GWS until injuries and Briggs emergence this year. He would be a great get as long as his body holds up

And that's why Preuss isn't worth it, regularly injured.
Add in the suspensions he seems to accumulate, and he's 29 next year we shouldn't be going anywhere near him.

I think the only reason that the "Vic Media" is suggesting that is that one player is not going to fix you list in the interim. By trading pick 1 then you theoretically could get multiple early picks. Nort traded pick 1 last year due in part to the debacle with Jason Corne Francis
The issue with that is the limely players available don't serve any urgent list needs, unless McKercher slips through or Sanders isn't eligible as NGA for North.

We could end up in the exact same scenario next year and the knobs in the Vic media will advocate splitting again, despite 4x of the current expected top 5 being Vic Metro.

So then what? Only take picks at the bottom of the top 10 or load up on picks in the teens?

WCE wont be doing that but you ca bet your bottom dollar the Vic media will be suggesting sliding back for WA kids, yet again.

I get your point. North has been hammered by the media over here this year. Worst side since Fitzroy. West coast have only been copped it due to Simmo. One pick will not fix your list. Same as us. WE need multiple picks in multiple drafts just to start being competitive

North won't be that far off, provided they prioritise KPPs, and this is the draft to do it. If they get pick 3 for M Kay, it'd honestly be better for them to split and target 2 of Caddy/O'Sullivan//Murphy/Reid(of the Archer variety).

They can always target mids again next year, as the top 10 is full of good prospects.

That is true. I guess we have been in a hole for a number of years and if we cant get it rught now we are stuffed.

You have that already.
You have equally as many first rounders on your list as any team in history.
Maybe stop sacking coaches and board members every year and actually play some footy.

True we have no more excuses.

I love how everyone seems to forget that we have other picks besides pick 1...

West Coast has taken 7 picks inside the first two rounds over the last couple of drafts, with 2 mid-season no.1 selections in addition to that.

The club has already indicated that it will use 4-5 selections in this years' draft as well.

One pick certainly does not make a club - but we have more than one pick.

And we'll be using the first of them this year on H.Reid.

You don't really believe that do you? The AFL media are not at all concerned about their golden child moving to the other side of the world and not living at the home of footy, they just want to see WC have some interim success with a couple of solid first round picks?

That may be one of the rationale's being trotted out by them but it is most certainly not the reason they are banging away incessantly on this drum of West Coast trading pick 1 or better yet, selecting Curtin with pick 1 (cos you know, a single tweener KPD is the real secret to interim success).

Hope you are right Re: Reid. Feels hard to ignore that we will trade 1 but I can’t see how it gets done

Harder for them to intrrview him in the studio, etc.

Why would the Eagles, let alone us as supporters of the Eagles care what the VIC Media suggests.
West Coast just proved we don't listen to any media, let alone VIC media in sticking with Simmo. Why is VIC media (or any media) being bought up as having any influence in the decision making of our Recruiting/List management team......
The subject of splitting the pick, Reid wanting to stay in Victoria is such an easy narrative to bait AFL supporters into clicks, responses, tweets etc, and it appears a lot in this thread have swallowed it hook line and sinker!

If we take 5 players this year in the draft we will have added 16 players to our list in 3 drafts including Culley and Maric 18 if you include Hunt and SPS.

I don’t really see how making that 17 youngsters instead of 16 is really going to make a huge difference. Can’t play them all at once.

Reid will be as ready to go a player as nearly any we have seen before him and that’s probably what we need as much as a more speculative prospect.

When the Eagles have got on top in the midfield which admittedly didn’t happen often, we actually went alright. Think games against Nth, GWS, Bombers and Bulldogs. We got field position and became very competitive.

If we get some quality midfield players in there we will start to compete with a fit list very quickly.

And behind Goldstein before that. Mature age recruit so has only been around 6 years. His stats when number 1 ruck are very good. And to the original point he is combative and aggressive which is something we lack.

His first VFL game back for the year last week was 20 disposals, 26 hit outs and 11 clearances while sharing the ruck. We could do worse and our young mids would walk taller with a monster like him in the side. All if he can stay injury and suspension free which is a 207cm 118kg sized IF

Travis Colyer and Nathan Wilson have both been delisted by Freo whilst still involved in the final’s campaign for their aligned club

Any interest in signing them as DFAs

If you answer yes to this question, expect a ban

Clubs publicly announcing delistings before B&Fs is pretty bad form, no?

Even worse, announcing AT the B&F.
