Sis looked at me today & said what if it’s a cliffhanger….

I need a strategy
My sister is all over the place on this game. She’s even started talking about how much she hated the 1994 finals series. I mean, I agree. But I struggle to understand what relevance the 1994 finals series has to tomorrow night. I’ve tried to tell her to settle, but without success.

The majority of every single preview thread is taken over by discussion in and around 1 player

Correct…

Both sides of the opinion keep the discussion going, it’s become tiresome to continue reading…

We should be celebrating being in the finals, with a chance of really shaking things up…

100%, I fire up & post a lot to counter the bullshit.
Some people post their opinion & state it as fact - problem is the facts show something very different & that pisses me off.

I’m a massive fan & everyone is entitled to their view, just don’t pretend you’re not biased- own it & back your view with facts!
If u find yourself on the wrong side of the facts, it might be a good indicator that you may need to revisit/rethink your position. You are allowed to do that.

There are some players where the eye test tells you more than just relying on "facts" (stats).

JSOS is always going to be rated higher than his stats by most supporters - because of what their eyes tell them about everything he does that is not measured statistically.

Dow is the opposite. Watching him live at the GWS game, it surprised me how little intent he showed after the ball left his immediate area a few times. He literally jogged after the ball/opponent. I know there were others that showed less than 100% intent that night, but as a fringe player who should be desperate to keep his spot, he gives the coaches reason for concern.

Dow has done well to do what he has this year, but when players return from injury, there will always be a ranking system applied to who goes out. To keep his spot in the 22, Dow really needed to go past Hewett and/or Kennedy. Defensively they have him covered comfortably - not necessarily in raw tackle numbers, but general intent to do anything to disrupt the opponent/s when they have the ball. I wish we had a player with Dow's burst and Hewett's desperation. Coaches will generally prefer the latter though.

His match fitness should see him get the 23rd spot ahead of other suitable candidates like Kennedy and JSOS. That is a tribute to his improvement and he can a serious weapon late in a tight game.

Blacres good to go & Pitt

Cripps, Doc & Motlop all expected to return

Michael Voss has locked in Blake Acres for his side’s first final in 10 years, while Carlton will also select Marc Pittonet for Friday night.

Meanwhile, Pittonet will also play. Tom De Koning has been in career-best form in the ruck and the duo are set to combine on Friday night.

But... but, but it's Dow-Day Afternoon?

Great old film.

You would think:
  • Cripps forDow
  • Motlop for Durdin
  • Doch for Hollands (outside chance he could replace Fisher/Cincotta at half back though played wing during recent match sim)
  • Pittonet for either Fogarty / Cunningham / Cottrell (in that order)
I would rather Doc for Fish. Hollands' gut running and not shying away from a contest keeps him in.

Those were my assumed changes and it seems likely will happen. I had Fog out instead of Cuningham but seems Fog may retain instead.

With Swans having quite a tall forward line - I can see the argument for Marchbank too. Still 10 days away so see what happens on the training track etc. I still like Fisher in the team but no doubt another just ok game & was moved around a lot in the second half.

It seems Marchbank a strong chance too (I assume for Fisher but could be Cincotta)

In - Cripps, Docherty, Pittonet, Motlop
Out - Dow, Hollands, Fogarty, Durdin, Marchbank (Sub)

Dow to be the sub.

I am still not sold on Fisher at half back in a final and Cuningham could easily go out in place of Fogarty, but I'm confident the changes overall make us better.

Hopefully no injuries and we sub Dow in for Pittonet at 3QT and run over the top of them.

I think he is a better defender then both Cinc and Fisher going by recent form but bad for overall balance in our backline.
He’s been extremely sloppy since he’s been back in the team. Average decision maker and invites pressure with his painfully slow ball drop.

Yes he’s had an incredibly hard road and we all want to see him do well but he should not be getting picked in a cutthroat final.

You definitely need to apply the “eyeball” test in conjunction.
However the eyeball test can be flawed, u see Dow not charging back hard enough, but he had the highest pressure acts for the team that game.
That would tell me he was applying great defensive pressure in the immediate vicinity, which could then translate to looking lax on the outside eg attempt a tackle/smother then be out of position for the next play- ball is then gone & when u see it, the player is standing there a step/play behind- to the eye test it looks crap if u missed the first effort.

Depends a bit on their forward line structure.

If it's Maclean/Hickey (ruck changes) Ammartey and McDonald then it's probably Weiters, Kemp and Marchy. Mitch takes Heeney and Saad takes Papley.

They have been known to not play Hickey and just ruck Maclean which they could based on the weather but that would be risky as it might help our centre bounce dominance.
