Strategy Draft assistance 2023 [Twomey: NMFC get #19 in 2023, x2 end of 1st rd picks in 2024, and x2 extra rookie list spots in 2024; no Sanders/#11]

I'd take anything anyone says about our draft strategy with a very big grain of salt right now.

I don't think we even know until we see what our hand is - Port pick being 14 v 18 is a big difference, do we get and then have to pay for Sanders, what kind of assistance package do we get from AFL aka how many list spots do we have - the idea we have any idea beyond a fairly general approach is ludicrous.

We have done the work on players and tried to game it all out, but way too many moving parts still to be making definitive calls.

Also, there is ample evidence to show that Sonja and Jen and Todd have well and truly sealed up all the leaks. If anyone is offering inside goss on our draft intentions, then it's pretty much a guarantee that they are no longer inside and they don't know sh!t. Or they are just about to be handed a pink slip from payroll.

ITK on BigFooty > AFL media.

On SM-S901E using BigFooty.com mobile app

Yeah well that's just because AFL media in this context means mouthpiece of other clubs. They are not reporting on what the AFL intends to do but rather, what the other clubs are trying to pressure the AFL to do.

Contrary to what some ITK posters are posting here, pretty much all AFL media are claiming we are no chance of getting Sanders for free, and that it's still up in the air if we even get a chance to bid on him.
I am not sure why everyone is beating themselves up over this - there is no chance we are 'pre listing' - the AFL would never allow this.

If we rate Sanders highly enough then irrespective of NGA status and any rules the AFL put around this for 2023 we will just select him with picks 2 or 3 (with either McKercher or Reid the other selection).

That will leave us with the Port pick intact to select a tall defender plus the 2-3 other later picks the AFL will give us to trade with to fill out holes in the list.

Ultimately its our decision on Sanders - if we want him he will be playing for North next year.

If thats the case then the AFL will never be able to provide assistance again.

PP and assistance would effectively be dead.

Another North initiative.

I must have missed that section in Wealth of Nations. :p

If memory serves me correctly, I think he had a derogatory view of that type of bartering, which he referred to as haggling as a distinction. It had a purpose prior to the introduction of currency, because it would have been difficult to gauge the comparative value of different goods or services.

The act of grossly exaggerating something's value and have to haggle to get to what is the real value of something is a different practice, we had currencies in the dark ages and we could trade without haggling. You might be thinking of even further back perhaps.

Some placed retained the practice of haggling long after it was necessary. It still occurs today in some places.
LOl ... wealth of nations.

lol it was a one liner I used to describe an outdated practice and EVERYONE knew exactly what I meant. It wasn't intended as a complete history of economics.
It was an inaccurate stereotype describing a situation that never existed except in the mind of prejudiced campaigners?

LOl ... wealth of nations.

I didn't find the book funny, but each to their own.

It is iconic, because he witnessed the dawn of industrialisation and documented a changing world and described theories of operation through his own lense, it inspired Karl Marx and every economist since to study how society and systems work and how we can best allocate resources.

I’m sure all the pre listed players on various lists had a massive sook they weren’t able to get on stage.
Nick Daicos also seems to be really struggling to move past his lowly draft position due to being father-son and some probable shonky side deals not to bid. Clearly, he's regretting his decision to nominate father-son and forego the #1 draft pick status and it's really holding back his football.

Hard to know what this means. Whether it is matching a bid or if we will request, say, pick 11 in 2024 and pick 19 this year and trade those two with Port's pick for GCs pick 4. Or something weird like that.

Never under estimate how far out of the loop Tom Morris is though. He might have a media gig because Craig Hutchison has no moral code but he's getting absolutely diddly squat from the AFL to help rehabilitate his status.

In all honesty my source is solid as, but things change. I'd back him in over tom freaking Morris though.

For what it's worth it was ONLY sanders pre listed, no picks.

Your source had info from a couple of weeks ago though no? I’ve heard from a few people the vibe on Sanders is not what it was. It could just be that we seemingly have been conditioned that it will happen somehow but the closer we get to the final meeting things are less sure (perhaps a memory back to last year).

If your source is someone "ITK" then they were probably just chatting. They weren't telling you so that you would leak it to the wirld from your huge platform of this thread.

People leak stuff to media for a reason.

Morris' source (if he even has one) is almost certainly another club or someone at the AFL who wants this message out there for some reason.
