What’s your point about the guys I listed being first round picks?
Isn’t the conversation we’re having over drafting a half back?

Double chance to make the grad, youre moreorless saying you’re happy for them to be no good for a few years and then be turned into a half back.
Point being, in comparison to all other positions, half back is the easiest to play and look good in. I wouldn't be spending top end picks on half backs unless I'm confident they will develop further up the ground.

And no that's no what I'm saying at all. The idea outcome is that those players 'make it' as half forwards/wings as it is much harder to find quality players in those positions. In the event that they fail there, there's a good chance you can turn them into a half back if they possess the attributes mentioned before.

I would be going hell for leather on trying to get one of those F1's from the Roos that are under review. Wont be losing it if another team owns the pick.

Turn BZT+F2 into Roos compensation pick 2 (mid first round potentially?)
I thought both picks were end of first round?

So if they don’t fail in their original position we draft them in, we still don’t have half backs 😂😂

Player wise yes. Probably just outside the top 5. Somewhere after holding Daniher to his contract, paying 2 x 1sts for Shiel, taking Myers over Rioli, playing NLM in ruck for the 2009 elimination finals and not paying 2 x 1sts for Dunkley.
Again
Actually look at the facts on what happened in situations. Sydney weren’t giving what went wanted, we got pick 7 the following year- a good result
Shiel - two picks in the teens (getting a 2nd back) - the going price for a high priced midfielder who has been all Australian. He hasn’t lived up the expectations but there’s nothing wrong with doing that deal.
Myers over rioli - I agree with you on that, Although we had spent 2 top 30 picks on small forwards in the previous draft.
It was 2 top 10 picks that dogs wanted for dunkley - he ain’t worth that. If you’re complaining about what we paid for shiel you certainly can’t say we should’ve paid that for Dunkley.

I don't want a half back with pick 8 unless theyre super special

Should be plenty capable as later picks

I also think that Zerrett, Davey, Tsatas, Durham(Albeit i like him wing/F50) and Tex would get one or two capable there

This draft has been known since day one to have a lot of half backs

Jacob Edwards, pick 1 in the 21 MSD and a ruckman. Delisted by North. 203cm, 94kg.

Brynn Teakle delisted by Port. 204cm, 102kg. Ruckman.

Not sad about Goldy.
Jacob Edwards is barely VFL standard. Will go play at Beaumaris in B Grade VAFA and kick 50.

Although I still think the Ralphy thought bubble is vanishingly unlikely, if we assume there is actually something to it, it raises some interesting possibilities.

If we end up with Saints receiving Shiel (with all or part of his salary paid up by Ess) for Gresham (with the pick 13 generated as FA compo being traded to Ess), and if we facilitate the Port trades by sending Zerk and 27 across for Port's F1 (with Port sending the 27 to the Cats for Esava), it puts us in a fairly dynamic position.

in sum, we'd be out: Shiel, Zerk, 27, millions of salary cap space, and in: pick 13, Port's F1, Gresham, McKay.

If Ant is right and we only take 2 picks, well they'll be 8 and 13 (before bids). Not a bad place to be making your only selections. If we end up seeing a slider we like near the late teens early 20s, we can use Port's F1 to try and trade back in for it without unduly compromising our 2024 hand. 3 first rounders, and Baldwin upgrade. Scott can't complain with that hand.

And that's all before we trade with the Hawks for Massimo (this is probably a fringe player or a later 2024 pick, but I think we'll still extract some value here).

I think the port/cats three-way trade above is more likely than the Ralphy draft tampering scenario (I wouldn't be betting my house on either, mind you), but if both were to come to pass...well it'd make for a fun couple of months of phantom drafts, wouldn't it.

not trading Joe and not trading for Dunkley were two poor trade decisions in retrospect.
we would have got a larger bounty for joe and not had an unhappy camper at the club.
josh Dunkley would be more valuable to us than Cox and perkins in term of what we need.
this is harsh but fair.
obviously drafting Myers over Rioli was horrible for us as well but no worse than gumbleton over Selwood.

F1 in the Zerk trade would be insane

D’Ambrosio is a rookie so probably a token pick

Gresham pick more likely to be end of first I reckon, if they luck into 13 they would probably split it and give us half for Shiel

F1 in the Zerk trade would be insane

It's certainly a bit overs (although arguably just a 12 pick upgrade if we assume Port are top 4 next year again), but that said, the market for KPDs is extremely overheated at the moment, so it's a sellers market, and Port have precious little in the way of assets to satisfy both Cats and Ess without spending that future 1st. So it is something I can see happening.

Other way it might happen is F1 to Cats, and Cats F2 to us.

No upside? We only need a year as insurance in what looks a bleak landscape.
Nah he's shit. There's a reason he couldn't get a game in the last 3 years despite North having the worst set of KPP's in the league

Teakle isn’t good either. I don’t think we need a developing ruck (if we took one in the Rookie draft or as an ssp I wouldn’t mind) we need a mature ready to go ruck. If we get one better than Philips, happy days. I love the look of Bryan. But feels like he’s a year away and quite honestly, Draper still needs solid help most weeks
