I do. I want the option to be able to jump in front of the Welsh bid for one of the many highly touted mids in next years draft.

Not convinced Welsh will remain in top 5 contention given his tweener forward size. Wouldn't be surprised if the bid landed in the 8-12 range next year.

And next year is suppose to be brimming with better midfield talent in the top 10.
our list is fall of kids
we need 25/26 year old stars

How about Haines + GWS's F1 for Himmelberg and we pay 70% of his salary.

Would absolutely take him on even as KPD depth if it meant we'd receive a decent draft pick in lieu of covering his salary, but you'd assume he'd want some sort of guaranteed game time otherwise what's the point in leaving? He can just sit on the pine at GWS and earn his $1.2m next year or whatever, he doesn't owe GWS any favours in uprooting his life to do exactly the same thing here and most likely play in the SANFL.... Unless Burgess can squeeze something out of him...

I doubt we'd have any issue covering his salary at all

Only way i'm taking him is if there is a salary dump draft pick attached to it. And a juicy one at that.

Otherwise there is simply no attraction of getting an overpriced 32 year old thats been squeezed out of his current side. Especially considering we've seem to be snagging serviceable to good (and essentially free) KPD's from thin air (Butts, Murray, Keane).

In regards to guarantees of playing time. Hard no on that too. If he needs that in any agreement to move then tough luck to GWS

It opens up options with what we should have salary cap wise - why not consider taking Haynes if GWS F1 is potentially part of it if we take on his salary. Bank an F1. Maybe if there is no trade for a mid this year, look to trade with North with our pick 9 for their port 1st and one of their end of 2024 1sts. North may be very happy to keep moving up the draft this year. Keep in the ear of GC if they take the dogs offer and see if they would accept say 3 x 2nds for points for pick 10. All this stuff is potentially doable

Maybe we could walk away with say picks 10 & 14 (port 1st) and a 2nd for this draft and maybe 3 x 1sts next year to then trade for a player OR look to trade up to get in for a Draper etc

Kablamo!

Spitballing

Depending on what North are doing, a 3 way deal

North in: Picks 9,
North out: Picks 14 & 1 x 2024 end of 1st round compo pick

GC in: Picks 14, Crows F1, Crows picks 21 & 23
GC out: Pick 4

Crows: in Pick 4, North 2024 end of 1st round compo pick
Out: Picks 9, F1, 21 & 23

That would make a good spitball. Throw it on the ceiling

You blokes must think Jason McCartney is a mug...I've got some news for you, he's not.
I think people are seeing a 32 year-old earning $1.2m a year and not getting a game and saying the only interest should come if they pay us to take him.

Which is fair enough, but there's no reason for GWS to do that

Was just rumoured on SEN ....we would take Haines for Himmelberg IF ....GWS pay 60% of his salary
Why take on a cooked player?

It's not like we have plenty of list space.

That would be seriously stupid.

Given your posting in the last 24 hours, you are either have nfi about list management or you are are trolling this board.

Which is it?

Can we beat that and is it worth the cost?

No point paying more than that imo.

We should make a play for pick 10 after this deal by using our 2nds.

Looks too much imo.

I think you're missing what I'm putting down
No, I read correctly.

You proposed we gain Haynes & I don't want this overpaid cooked player under any circumstances.

If you read correctly you'll know the player is irrelevant to the pick that comes with it.

We are in the age of salary dumping Kane. The pick is carrot, not the player.

Catch up or miss out!
