Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Keys you may like to sticky this post & move it to the start of the thread (so the sticky post doesn't rotate if a post is deleted before it), or copy it to your draft thread if you have one.

The Roos have missed out on key recruiting targets in recent years including Dustin Martin, Josh Kelly, Isaac Heeney and Andrew Gaff, prompting the AFL to hand it a generous assistance package.

They can have Gaff now if they want!

This and yesterday's reports from Jay do strongly suggest he has a decent source, especially given they are relatively at odds with what others are suggesting. Some interesting specific details about the interview at the combine as well. Nice contributions from Juddy there too.

I don't mind trade if it's overwhelming, but I also think there would be something to admire about the club backing itself in and just taking Harley if they really are that impressed with him. 🤞

We won't be trading our F1st for pick 8 alone.

Cats would need to add their 2024 1st as well.

We are locks for a bottom 3 finish if not last.
If there's one thing that should absolutely be off the table this trade period, it's our 2024 1st rounder.

Did I just read that North offered 15, 18, 21 & an end of first rounder next year? That's some epic trolling right there. It's the sort of trade I expect to see being suggested on the North board here on Bigfooty.

I’m assuming (for no other reason than this seemingly being the only logical explanation) that Rawlings and O’Brien decided to have a little fun with the media today and ‘leak’ that offer (completely made up offer as it is borderline offensive if it was true).

They worked together, so probably don’t mind a practical joke.

If North can get 8 from Geelong I wonder if we would entertain setting the bar at 2, 8 & F1 for 1, F2 & F3? I don't really want to trade a second rounder but if North can land pick 8 and still want pick 1 I'd still like to try and get our hands on their F1. They'd still have 1, 3 and probably 2-3 picks in the teens so it's not like they'd be going without. We'd land two quality players this year AND have potentially two top 5's next year.

These things can only ever be judged on hindsight imo.

Dozens were ranging from annoyed to upset to 'fold the club' when we downgraded our pick 2 but they are all quiet now after seeing how Ginbey and Hewitt have turned out so far. They will be up in arms again if they fail to become good players.
But not those of us that had Hewitt close to top. This year is totally different.Anybody thinking of trading just keep thinking midfield-TK,Reid,Hewitt,Ginbey +. That my friends is some serious talent.
Take Reid out and Curtin in and it just don’t look the same.

Picks are overrated. Players are what changes a footy club.

Take the best player in the draft.

Imagine if we get a kings ransom and half the picks flop, while Reid is out there dominating. Recruiters would be mad.
The flipside of this is Reid flops and we land three above average-to-excellent players. But even Tom Boyd and Patty McCartin were very good players.

I don't really worry too much about all the talk and I accept that the number 1 draft pick may not end up the best player, but we so rarely get access at the top of the draft, unless the offer is overwhelming, we would be foolish to trade it away. Not just "this is a decent offer" but overwhelming. We need star talent at the club, not just good players (although we need those too). We can find good players with later picks or later drafts, we may not get the opportunity for star talent again in a hurry (although we probably will again next year - but need more than one star player).

Fremantle have re-entered the race for departing Hawthorn forward Tyler Brockman following Lachie Schultz’s bombshell request for a trade to Collingwood.
West Coast remains Brockman’s likely new home as both parties have agreed to the terms of a multi-year deal, but the Schultz development has reignited the Dockers’ interest in the 20-year-old Subiaco product.
The Hawks are interested in cutting a deal with the Eagles that could involve pick No.1, but could not expect anything better than a third-round selection for Brockman as part of the package.

West Coast could also secure him with their first selection in the pre-season draft.

The Dockers had backed away from any pursuit of the talented small forward but have upped the ante as they face the very real possibility of losing a key player.
Schultz was equal second in the Fremantle 2023 goalkicking with 33, laid more tackles than any other player in their forward 50 and finished in the top six of the Doig Medal in the past two seasons.
He is contracted for next year but could walk out on the Dockers at the end of that deal as a free agent, as he has been previously de-listed by the Dockers.
Hawthorn head of football Rob McCartney told AFL Trade Radio on Monday the Hawks were willing to use their first pick (now No.4 after North Melbourne were handed compensation at No. 3 for departing defender Ben McKay), a future selection and Brockman for the Eagles’ coveted first selection, enabling them to draft young gun Harley Reid.

“If we can get in a little higher at any stage, we’re very open-minded to that,” he said.

“If you can turn a pick three into a pick one and the resources you put around it aren’t to the detriment of the long-term success of the group, then we’d be willing to have that conversation with West Coast.”
Brockman has cited family reasons for a return to his home state with his partner Tyrah Kickett and twin daughters, Amaliah and Amyrah.
Brockman had a breakthrough year with the Hawks, kicking 13 goals from 15 games, after a shoulder reconstruction wiped out 2022 for the small forward.
He kicked three goals in his first AFL game since 2021 in the Hawks’ round three win over North Melbourne in Tasmania.

Dude, that article's from yesterday, he's already said no to Freo since then.

McKercher looks a hell of a player but the flight risk when Tassie come into the competition (when he should be hitting his peak) is huge.

Punters saying they’re from Tassie and they never returned after living in the mainland, or they know people like that, really isn’t to the point. The circumstances are not comparable at all. This guy is likely to be the best Tassie player in the comp and the new team’s major target. They’ll be armed with a huge war chest of cash, and if McKercher’s manager is doing his job, McKercher will be coming out of contract.

McKercher said he hopes to be a one club player which is great, but he can’t guess the level of pressure and the financial lure that he’ll be faced with.

And if he did choose to return I expect the compensation would be relatively modest by comparison because it’s the AFL and integrity and fairness are of no consequence to them.

Reid may be a flight risk at some level but I think a much lesser one than McKercher. And if Reid did depart we’d likely be very well compensated as the Vic clubs would likely be desperate for him.

As attractive as these hypothetical trade deals may sound, when you break them down into what we actually get they don’t look very appealing.
