Well, as miserly as Mac is Geelong he might’s well get more so if you listen what Cornes reckons about Port and their chances of winning a flag without Ratu.

-After Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes expressed concerns over his club's trade period, focusing on getting Geelong's Esava Ratugolea, more fears have been raised of a potential failed trade.
Cornes spoke on AFL Trade Radio on Monday, saying that the Power is "under pressure" and won't win a flag if they don't secure Ratugolea's services.
"They can't win the premiership unless they get these deals done," Cornes said.
"The depth isn't there."

Hoping Cats get sweet FA for any deal and they slip quicker into the bottom 4 abyss.

Rat is a very average player.
I'd be disappointed if we landed him.

What's stopping Big Sav naming his price and bouncing into the draft?

I actually asked this over on the Port board.

With the SSP rules never really being tested, i wonder what the rules were if he nominated with a massive price ($2M per year) so that no one took him.

Then just walks over to Port via SSP.

Satisfies the "must nominate" clause and takes the risk out of the draft.
assume there is something in place to stop this.

Can Port free up that sort of space under TPP? Doubt they’d be able to smooth it out with a longer contract. The afl would likely include a Buddyesque caveat against doing that when they approved it.

Think there is something in there that even if they smooth a big initial nomination amount, the initial nominated amount goes to the cap in that year - similar to RFA.

How's the balls up from Dons!
They just keep giving....

I'm fine with the fact they only offered D'ambrosio a year contract....but if you know he can walk as a DFA....why the hell are you haggling over a late pick?
Whether you use it or not, its about the 'player' at this point and just getting them to where they want to be.

That is why they are a rubbish organization.
They must be spoken about with complete trepidation by player managers.....unfortunately they just keep offering huge $$ and contracts!!!

it just makes the player think they don't give shit about him, which is probably the actual case.
This is why it was important to follow through on recruiting Schultz, after we offered him a long contract.
We made him feel valued, and if we paid "overs" (and I'm not convinced we did), it's just part of the whole package.
Schultz will feel like he's made the right decision, whereas D'Ambrosio is likely to think "f**k you Essendon!".

100% on the bolded bit.

Don't think they're comparable.
A more comparable trade IMO was Marley Williams to north for pick 7 million (think it was pick 104 or something).
We had no use for him and were going to delist anyway, so just did the deal to get him assurance of a future.

They only offered him a 1 year rookie contract, which clearly tells everyone they are on the fence and he's on his last chance.
So if you don't rate him, why be stupid about it?
Why the Dons didn't just do this in day 1 of the trade period is why they are rubbish!!

Unless of course they didn't know about the DFA rule....which is literally a sackable offence in my book! One job!

If they are thinking they can turn the pick 60 on offer into 45 for a DFA...and they think that is a big win for their draft strategy....then they are about 10 years behind everyone else!

I mean, that is just 'winning' for absolutely no reason except ego.

A 4th round pick might get the deal over the line for Rat according to Twomey.

F*** me if that's true. It's a nothing pick.

Mackie is a twat.
I was thinking the same thing.

If that's what gets it done....then surely that goes back to Port 10 seconds after they offer up 23!!
The deal is done and week ago and Gee don't look like absolute w***ers.

I get the feeling Mackie won't be long in the Job.....Feels like the cats are 180 degrees from what they used to be.
They have somehow got themselves with a single pick (8) this draft.

No matter which way you cut it, that's horrible fwd planning.

Does Brisbane have a unlimited cap. Keep bringing players in on big money while losing nothing.
