Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

4. Since mid-2022, we've taken inside-leaning mids Culley, Ginbey, Hewett, Reid, Hall and Johnston. Impossible to develop them all at once in their preferred position given how close in age they are
I’m not convinced they are all as inside as we think. I doubt Reid ends up a full time inside mid, just as Dustin Martin was never really an inside mid. Culley I doubt will ever play inside mid at AFL level. Johnston looks far more outside leaning to me.

If anything this drafting me optimistic that Sheed/Gaff will start to be phased out to the wings, and Kelly will be used as a receiver more

Culley is unknown BC of an ACL. We won't see him this year. But I still recon he is an inside player.

I think they've taken Johnston for a wing. Gaff is done. Sheed is done/isn't a wing. Hunt is 29. Hough likely. Burgiel maybe.

Have to go Koen Sanchez with our first tomorrow. Far and away the bets player left over.
100%. Should've gone in national draft.

He was the one in many games that actually did something for WA.

He'd be a great pick here and can lock in a small crafty, crumbling fwd.

LOL why are you giving us a run down on Lions? * em, your a closet eagles fan. Give us a rundown on our draft mate.

Any chance you're going to give us a sneaky peek at what happened behind the scenes, and who you ended up working for? And during the trade season why Hawks was pissing in your pocket.
Outside of Harley Reid, I thought it was pretty meh (I thought the same about ours), but you really didn’t have the picks to do much else.

Giving up that future 3rd round pick to move up two spots and pick Hall was a bit of a “why” moment.

Interested to see what you do in the rookie draft today.

Fairly surprised no one drafted Sanchez.

Absolutely gutted you guys got ZZ, think he'll turn into a really good KPD.

He runs sub 3 sec, 20m sprint.
Ranked 5th for agility.
Ranked first for standing vertical leap.

He's got all the tools, very good in the air and one on one. If I had a knock he tends to take double grab contested marks rather than clean one bite.

I'm worried we let a future gun go.

His kicking is a major work in progress.

As is his game sense after only recently converting from basketball.

ZZ will be a slow burn.

Given there’s now a queue for ruck and KPF - plus Jamo’s contracted for two more seasons - then it’s either as a possible KPD or a LOT of Beagles’ games.
I haven’t seen Jamo show anything as a KPP. Wouldn’t be surprised if he cops a Zac Langdon style early contract pay out, which baffles why he was offered 2 years.

Even if Flynn misses games this year, I would expect BW to play ruck and Maric or Waterman to come in as third tall forward. Can’t see Jamo playing senior footy.

Barnett looked fit recently, maybe the club is bullish on him in the future. Archer Reid at 203cm has to height to play ruck. Hopefully we are not leaving room for English…

The only reason I can think we blew a F3rd is Essendon chasing a big inside mid. But yes it was a 'really?' Momement similar to Essendon trading down 1 spot.

Agree. Apart from Reid I'm not very excited so far.

How the AFL has allowed the draft to be gutted by academy, father sons and compo picks is just a mess. It's a joke and rebuilding clubs at the bottom of the ladder who get zero priority access are not laughing.

It's an unmitigated mess created by greedy big Vic clubs and greedy AFL executives chasing big bonuses from TV right deals. Nothing more, nothing less.

A review of the current draft system would begin something like this.

With our investment in rucks the last two drafts Tim English isn't coming to the Eagles any time soon.

This is my take on our U25 Team after the National Draft:
View attachment 1858376

A few things stand out:
  1. We have almost no rebounding defenders who can kick - forcing me to put players out of their ideal positions.
  2. We are still light on for high quality KPD prospects, Bazzo is decent, but unlikely to be a true KPD more suited to the role of a third tall.
Reading points 1 and 2 above - it now makes a bit more sense why we were willing to offer our F1 in a straight swap for Curtin, he would have filled those needs perfectly.
3. Whilst we have a large number of U25's on our list, we are still lacking in elite level talent when compared to other rebuilding sides (Hopefully we have elevate themselves into the elite category this year like Ginbey and Hewett).
Our Biggest Needs for Next Years Draft to me are:
1. Designated Kickers/HBF
2. Outside leaning Mids or Wings
3. KPD
Wouldn't mind another small forward either (Sanchez in the rookie draft anyone?)

Are you saying the Eagles haven't got any decent half back flankers?

Got to tell Andrew Mackie a story today, the only real highlight of the draft for me.

Think Freo drafted really well considering the picks they had. All 3 players have a major deficiency but their positive aspects are very good and help balance their team well in that lack of speed on their draftees will be offset by the very fast players in the positions that surround them.

I wish all the eagles draftees the best but am only really happy with the Hall pick. Reid was always going pick 1 so it's really nothing to chirp about.

Not Chasing talls with the clubs latter picks just astounds me.

Which talls later would you have taken?

Forwards? Defenders?

May indicate a play for Busslinger next trade period perhaps.

Jamo and Harry Edwards living on borrowed time you'd think. If they don't show rapid improvement this year they'll be gone.

I have a feeling Fremantle would have been trying to jump up to get Hall ahead of our pick.

We then gave up the future to move a couple of spots and secure him.

Ours would have been the better offer of the two.

Astonished peeps think we don’t need Tim English. WCE have lots of money and not a lot of talent.

If he’s willing, WC would bite that off without a second thought. We have a young midfield and whilst Bailey was really good last season, Tim could definitely help grow and protect the youngsters a lot more. As an aside Ive heard Warner is extremely happy at Sydney, however there is a strong family pull back home. Definitely a watch this space.
