Yep, as soon as this meeting was over, Curtain who was sitting next to Dowling jumped on a plane to Perth.

I was talking about Beau waters visiting west coast because it's a running joke on this board that his mum is a more reliable source of footy rumours than most others

I don't think there's anything wrong with hoping Curtin might be a midfielder or recognising he could be good in that area. Similar to Fogarty when he was drafted, he's obviously a talent but where he's going to play long term is a bit unclear. At the same time it's not like he's clearly a midfielder and just wasted in defence. Will take some time to figure out.
Won’t be our issue

So you are the only person in the world that thinks curtin is a defender is Nicks...

It’s ****ing odd. Hasn’t Nicks announced all the others? I know I’ll get accused of reading too much into it but bizarre for Nicks not to announce it.
He didn't announce Curtin, and that's the only other draftee this year. Not sure what the norm was before that.

Yep, he mostly played defence, though. I think it was in the wafl he played mid, or colts.

I think we all really want him to play midfield because we are so disappointed we bottomed out without getting one.

But he's also 195cm, and looks more like a back flanker the way he plays.

If he can get his game going as a defender on the second tall forward, he could really damage a team the other way all game, forcing the forward to play defensive.

I'm not sure he can keep up with a midfielder or wing when the balls going the other way.

I'm all for playing him, watched him very closely against Port and thought he was excellent, he positions really well and many of our players unfortunately ignored him on multiple occasions.

I thought he looked a little gassed and watched the very moment he was told he was subbed, at three quarter time - the message was he'd done his job, the game was about won, rest up.

Personally I'd drop Smith for him straight away, but my point is that he needs to be able to play defensively, and have confidence in his game - both which he can get playing in the reserves as well as the firsts.

You asked where’s this midfield talk come from, did we know more than the coaches, if he played midfield at the championships, the quote from the club said he did, that and defence.

I know that he played a bit u18s, but he's a defender.

He played key back in the nationals, a squirt in the mid only.

This doesn't translate to AFL midfielder.

How do you know?

Everything I saw pre draft was the kid is a runner and his ideal positioning was HBF, intercept tall defender and can grow into a tall mid. Gets to the club...work on your deep defence. like wtf is that? Gets towelled up every game, moved to a HBF wing, smashed the opposition in the Sanfl, then gets a debut in deep defence? subbed out two games in a row.

This supporter group is unreal. For decades we've accused the club of player mismanagement and then when it occurs, the happy clappers are making crap up like he was always a deep defender, somehow he is a FB that everyone pre draft missed except for Nicks and the those fans.
