Agreed Soapy V, I would rather focus on what we can do to improve instead of looking for why we have not.

I say that as I have no inside knowledge of the conversations being undertaken in the MC, recruitment meeting, list Mngt team, Coaches discussions etc and therefore I can not contribute to that review that only those people in those areas can.

I know that the Why question has to be investigated so that we do not repeat history. But, it would be a complete waste of my time, emotions and health for me to attempt.

I have no idea what we are doing either

Just watching a lot of football recently (as I’m stuck home recovering from op) it’s obvious how the game has changed and what we lack

We need run from defence, some leg speed, spread around the middle and some X factor around our fwd line

Get list fit and lot will be fixed. Key is also the development of Wilson Lord Binns Ollie Elijah etc

Draft a couple of gun kids and add 2 like Sheldrick or Garcia we are in a good spot

There is conversation around Freo being interested still in Jack Martin.
Would an early 4R (62) be sufficient compensation?

I think we will delist him and then he will do a pre season with a club to see if he can get a spot

He can barely train these days. His body sadly just can’t handle it

I will be very surprised if he plays anywhere next year

Leek Aleer is OOC 2025.
Pick 15 2021 ND.
22yo 195cm KPD.
At the Giants he finds himself up against Taylor, Buckley, Himmelberg, Idun, Haynes.
Watched him earlier this season pitted against Curnow/McKay where he acquitted himself very well.
An offer of a starting position alongside Weitering and a solid contract might be enough to tempt him to Princes Park and the Giants are always prepared to trade.
If we can sort out our S&C department and climb higher next season, our FF rounder might be around the mark for him leaving us this year’s first rounder to draft an explosive type midfielder and then the Campo twins.
Someone like Rosas from GC could be added with the return from a traded Owies/Martin or even a swap of Carroll and Flyin Ryan could be negotiated …

Yep... We need ANOTHER slow inside midfielder who averages 0.6 goals a game over his career with maybe 1-2 more years left in the tank...

We need speed, spread and footskills across the field to support our own Luke Parker's on the team. We don't need any more of them.
I'm not interested with him as a mid, would be recruiting him as a cheaper veteran who plays as a medium forward who can push up the ground to impact the contest.

If we have to give up anything of significant value then it's a no for me. Unsure on what his price would be

Prefer MacAndrew or Barrass, but yeah, the kid has a leap on him the equal of Superman's!

Our midfield is hard to assess given we were missing Cerra pretty much all season and Walsh being severely hampered a lot of the season too...

Both are elite, both huge losses.

Not sure Carroll (Jack) offers much we don't have lots of already...might be wrong.

But if he was in a deal with WCE, for example, as part of a deal to get J. McGovern, ideally Barrass or Liam Ryan (due diligence) in the midfield, who might they offer up?

Elijah Hewett?

This kid looks very likely too - Harvey Johnston - might want to come home?

Couldn’t afford Barrass in trade or salary and GC would never let Andrew leave.
Aleer has had his grounding and should be ready to announce himself as a starting player.
Could be gettable and affordable …

Be real Jsos will likely not get another contact after 2025 we would be doing terrible if he is in 22. He will be 27 when season start will likely to be even slower he will play about 5-8 games at best will likely be leader of VFL side along with Lewis Young. Silvagni and Fantasia are likely to be moved on looking at the list coming off contract. Wilson. Lord will be first to sign, Monahan and Lemmey have time both are long term projects. Weitering, Cerra and De Koning the major ones to sign.. Newman and Docherty will probably go another year. Motlop and Kemp will be kept more likely. Hewett and Kennedy likely kept until the young ones take over 2026/2027. Saad and McGovern will go on as well.

These 3 are the most in Danger looking at list while the next 2 are signed for 2026.

Jack Silvagni
Orazio Fantasia
Alex Cincotta
Lewis Young Signed until 2026
Corey Durdin Signed until 2026

2025
Jack Silvagni
Jesse Motlop
Adam Cerra
Matthew Kennedy
Mitch McGovern
Tom De Koning
Orazio Fantasia
Sam Docherty
Brodie Kemp
Jacob Weitering
Nic Newman
George Hewett
Harry Lemmey
Rob Monahan
Billy Wilson
Cooper Lord
Alex Cincotta
Adam Saad
Wouldn't surprise me at all if one or two of the guys out of contract this year end up with a one year deal. Happens most years.

No way the Giants make a deal for Aleer, only reason he isn't playing is because he's a raw project. Part of moving Haynes on is to make room for him I'd imagine.

Taylor, Buckley, Himmelberg and Idun remain even if Haynes leaves.
Aleer might like the idea of a starting position alongside Weitering and a solid contract.
Trading is no issue for the Giants, they’ve been set up for it since day one …

Watching Bulldogs vs Roos atm. Pretty obvious that the roos are lacking some balls.
Can we swap McGovern for Sheezel? Lol

Id be very much a yes for him, id prefer mac but there is no way in high hell gc let him go. Future first, thanks for coming.

He could be we barely have enough spots on the list looking who contracted and having 3-4 spots for draft or even 5 if we use a free agent or delist. He is near 30 and coming of injuries again and players off contact. He would think stay depending if we trade players contracted. The injury age and spots is his concern not his performance he does perform.

I like Butts and I like Keane - I’m surprised Keane hasn’t been linked to Geelong, I sat next to him in Torquay at a breakfast spot during summer

Bloke is not a likely looking athlete, I only recognised him because he has a thick Irish accent and was wearing Crom kit hahaha
You're Keane on Butts? I'll file that away.

Seriously. How many times has he “performed”?

The way I see it, we have two sets of needs heading into this offseason. Best 22 needs and Squad depth needs.

Below are some players that we should target for these needs, albeit some are pie in the sky type suggestions.

Best 22 Needs

- Dynamic Mid with burst speed, running capacity and skill (Finn Callaghan)

- Tall Key Defender that is a stopper (Jordon Butts)

- Dynamic Medium Forward with forward IQ/craft, aerial ability and clean skills (Conor Stone)

Squad List Needs

- Experienced Hybrid Key/Medium Defender as first reserve to replace Marchbank (Nick Haynes)

- Dynamic Small Forward with pace, defensive pressure and ability to crumb packs (Joe Berry)

- Developing Key Defender (Harry O'Farrell)

- Back Up Small Defender (Jamaine Jones as a rookie)

- Back Up Key Forward (Liam McMahon as a rookie)

Add in our pre-commitments to Ben and Lucas Camporeale, and Matt Duffy, and we are heading for 11 new player arrivals to fill our list needs.

We could also do with another developing medium defender, although Matt Carroll should get another year, given he is on the rookie list. This can be addressed in 2025 if he doesn't come on.

Additionally a 2nd small/half forward would be good, but keeping Fantasia for a year to keep Tyson Gresham's (2025 NGA) list spot warm is sound management.

There is genuine scope to make up to 12 list changes to fit in all our needs. It would take a herculean effort from our LM team, and I'm not sure they have the courage to go for it.

We would need to clear out players that are of the same 'type' in order to make list spaces available, i.e. Hewett as a defensive mid, Binns on the wing, and our slower small forwards (Mots and Owies).

Summary of Changes

- Mirkov & Pittonet replaced by McMahon (& Lord's full time spot, rebalancing the list)

- Akuei, Marchbank & S Durdin replaced by Butts, Haynes & O'Farrell

- J Carroll, Cuningham & Hewett replaced by Callaghan, B Camporeale & Duffy

- Martin, Motlop & Owies replaced by Stone, Berry & (Williams repositioned)

- Binns replaced by L Camporeale

- (Williams repositioned) replaced by Jones.
We will not do that much change hard too see Hewitt gone they would pay out someone else contracted for 2025 who first in line to go. Binns traded also Motlop would be unlikely and Pittonet contracted other clubs would want too see how cheap he is paid to honor his Contact with us. I can see Owies and Carrol traded being out of contract for spot needed and in Owies case saving money for big time players out of contact end of 2025. Cuningham, Akuei, Marchbank , S Durdin, Mirkov are all gone and possibly Martin if spot needed. Akuei will likely go because of list i reckon they would want him another year even Mirkov but they probably left it too late Mirkov only chance would be Pittonet being offered a good deal to move to other club and Carlton liking the deal.

I'd be asking about Shai Bolton.

No chance.

You actually think West Coast will offer up their home grown, prized pick 14 from a year and a half ago in a deal for Jack Carroll??
