He's moving again and will have been sold first choice at St.K. They'll use Marshall as their CHF you'd suspect.

If he were here however and we play him first ruck we stunt the growth of Conway. Who ends in the VFL rucking when we could be developing Edwards and Furphy.

And he wouldn't even move the needle too much either.

Saints are morons if they move marshall out of the ruck. But then again ross is their coach so possible.

Are you saying he will definitely go next year, or if it is to happen it would only be then?

As per the article I posted above

“But the clubs that have asked about him have been told in no uncertain terms, he will fulfil his contract until the end of next year, I don’t think he’ll extend anytime soon.

“He was really upset to miss the preliminary final, of course. It’s going to be challenging or him to get hit spot back, but the Cats have 12 months to placate him."

You'd think it'll be easy to placate him to extend next season, simply tell him why he wasn't in the team (drop of form, we've had to move you around which has been disruptive, injuries) and then simply ask, what position do you want next season, and make it his.
Back him in to play his best footy and he'll be fine.

The Geelong Football Club has confirmed list changes to its AFL playing squad.

Premiership players Brandan Parfitt and Gary Rohan have pulled on the Hoops for the final time, with the Club farewelling the 2022 Premiership players and five others.

Alongside Parfitt and Rohan, Phoenix Foster, Oscar Murdoch, James Willis, Mitch Hardie and Emerson Jeka won’t be offered contracts for 2025.

Parfitt departs Geelong having played 130 games for the Cats, including nine in 2024.

Joining the Club with the 26th selection in the 2016 National Draft, Parfitt debuted in Round 1 of the 2017 season, earning an AFL Rising Star nomination in just his third game.
Parfitt played in the 2020 AFL Grand Final, before tasting the ultimate success in 2022, becoming a Premiership player. He made an instant impact on the game, kicking a goal immediately after coming on as Geelong’s sub in the fourth quarter.

Rohan called GMHBA Stadium home for the last six seasons after joining Geelong from Sydney via a trade at the conclusion of the 2018 season.

Originally selected with Pick 6 in the 2009 National Draft, Rohan played 19 or more games in his first three seasons, becoming a key cog in the Cats forward line, kicking 79 goals.

A Premiership player in 2022, Rohan was instrumental in that Finals series, including a heroic Qualifying Final effort against Collingwood, stepping up on the big stage to kick three goals, including the match winning mark and goal late in the fourth quarter.
Rohan kicked 120 goals in 98 Geelong games, and will be remembered for his blistering speed, forward pressure and being a deadeye in front of goal.

Foster, Murdoch and Willis played the last two seasons in the VFL after being drafted at the conclusion of 2022, alongside Hardie who joined the Cats via the Mid-Season Draft in 2023.

Foster played 30 VFL games for the Cats, playing predominately as a forward kicking 30 goals, while Murdoch and Willis played 29 and 26 VFL games respectively.

Hardie excelled in the VFL in 2024, recognised for his outstanding season finishing fourth in the JJ Liston Trophy and earning a spot in the Smithy’s VFL Team of the Year. He was a strong force in the Cats midfield, averaging 29 disposals, six clearances and five tackles per game. He also hit the scoreboard, kicking 14 goals.

Jeka departs after playing 19 VFL games this season having joined the Cats via the 2023 Rookie Draft.

Geelong Cats General Manager – Football Andrew Mackie thanked all players for their time at the Club.

“This time of year is always difficult and to farewell seven great teammates is never easy,” Mackie said.

“Both members of our 2022 Premiership team, Brandan and Gary have had a profound on-field impact in the Hoops, but it can’t be overstated the influence they both have had on their teammates and the Club more broadly. They have both been incredible for our football program and the wider Geelong community.

“We thank Phoenix, James, Oscar, Mitch and Emerson for their contribution to our football program, we wish them all the best in their next chapter.”

These list changes follow the retirement of Tom Hawkins and Zach Tuohy. The Club will acknowledge Hawkins, Tuohy and all departing players at the upcoming 2024 Carji Greeves Medal event on Thursday 3 October.

I’d be concerned if SDK wasn’t upset with not playing, and clubs were always going to ask the question, but as it suggests, SDK has 2025 to get his spot back, I have no doubt the club sees him as part of our best 22 for next year and beyond.

Email from the club.

Delisted - Parfitt, Rohan, Foster, Murdoch, Willis, Hardie, Jeka.
Slight surprise on Willis but zero surprise on the others. That's 4 senior spots plus Tuohy and Hawk for 6.

Smith and Martin in for 4 remaining. Loss of 1st and potentially 2nd on Smith.

Means as it stands one ND selection in the 3rd/4th/5th round and either the 2nd or 6th.

Pure_Ownage you get your wish for three back end of the draft smokies and no one has shot Duncan into the sun yet

With respect, I don't think that's always true.

Ollie Dempsey is a good example here. Yes, he pushed Gary Rohan out of the team over the summer - but a lot of that was, IMO, off the fact that he managed to sneak in for 2 games in 2022, and 5 games in 2023 - and for most of those games, he only got in because of player unavailability, and especially for his first five or so games, he wouldn't have gotten over a storied veteran.

Getting that lick of AFL footy early is huge for young players. Not a long-term gift, but a couple of games here and there.
It's not always true, but how many games do you see Duncan and Stanleys bodies letting them play?

So…. Do we assume Bailey will be taking #3 for next year or am I being a little presumptuous? Very sorry to see the end of Parf and Rohan. Both provided plenty of entertainment in their time at the cats. Both maligned but I think both also made the most of their abilities and finish up as Premiership players. Congrats to them both.

Saints are morons if they move marshall out of the ruck. But then again ross is their coach so possible.
Have you watched Marshall in recent years? His best years were in tandem with Ryder.
He can go forward. Takes big marks and kicks well.

That'll be what they want to replicate.

So, we're now up to 6 off the senior list:
  • Hawkins (359) & Tuohy (288), retired
  • Foster (0), Parfitt (130), Rohan (204) & Willis (0), delisted

3 off the rookie list:
  • Hardie (0), Jeka (7) & Murdoch (0), delisted

That's currently 988 games of experience off the list
