That’s was my take of the whole Atkins situation. There would have been 799 players considered for trading before Atkins name came up. But as a previous poster said “he’s now our dickhead” - so stir up the opposition’s fans down at Noarlunga or Elizabeth to your heart’s content!
I was listening to the guarded words of Chris Davies and he basically said that Rory is going to be a great leader at SANFL and help that area of the club.
I may have listened wrong but what I'm trying to get at is if the club has wasted a list spot whose only job is to play hard at the SANFL, that is terrible business.
There is no doubt that three hard veterans in the middle of the ground of our SANFL team is needed because it will help with the overall development of the team but not at the expense of a list spot. Find another creative way to circumnavigate the rubbish the SANFL throw at us.

Carn, regardless of any other issues on what criteria is a rising 31 yo who played a total of 37 games in 5 years for arguably the most poorly performed club in their 13 seasons in the comp getting `a good one!'

Why the hell would Port take a salery dump for GC? I am miffed by it. You paid a F1 for Luko which is what he was worth, and you are taking his full wage from GC as well, which should have made him a second rounder. But then the additional dump of Atkins wage on top?

I tend to agree. Trying to work out why I think it may have been bacause 400K is bugger all in terms of salary cap in fact its below the AFL average wage:
By all reports we manage our cap really well, so 400K hardly makes a dent in our likely underspend which we can take into next season. So is 400K going out the door going to hurt our cap or ability to recruit next year or into the future ....no its not. does pick 29 help us in this draft .... absolutely. given that, is he a good club person, and can he help us develop our younger guys iun the SANFL and serves as a break glass ... I dont know the answer to that.

The only thing it can be is that GCs cap is in a far worse situation than we know. You would think that they could manage his wage for one more year and then delist him. You also know that Port never initiated getting him to your side this year.
So it has to be a favour to either GC or Connors to give GC an extra list spot and 400-450K cap relief. But why would they?

Of course GC has cap issues... they always have and continue to pay overs.

I heard on SEN this morning it was Connors pushing the Ratkins idea initially how laughable is that?
My suspicion is missing out on free agents, GC being difficult & us lacking depth all played into it.
