Let’s cut to the chase- can Hawthorn win a prelim in Sydney?

Unfortunately cats haven't had an off day against the Hawks since 2008. As to your question, I'm leaning towards yes on the basis of the AFL scheduling the Hawks for a Sunday twighlight fixture in Perth before heading down the highway next round.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn: Josh Ward. Extends to 2025!

So impressed by Ward's game. I had the displeasure of attending the round 5 loss against Gold Coast. Ward wasn't alone in having an off game, but there was a particular contest right in front of me where his lack of physicality was poor to say the least, the low point of his season. To see...

Let’s cut to the chase- can Hawthorn win a prelim in Sydney?

Don't disagree with much of what you've written here, was more taking issue with your original point of "lack a decent tall forward line" as reasoning on why we won't progress. Chol is leading goal kicker with 36, Dear stood up in his first final we have 8 who have kicked 20 or more goals. ...

Let’s cut to the chase- can Hawthorn win a prelim in Sydney?

It's amazing how many clubs have had an off night/day against the Hawks since round 5. Listening to opposition coach press conference majority noted their side had an off day post match (Nicks, Voss, McRae, Bevo last night). Kingsley was the only one who acknowledged actually Hawks might go ok...

Let’s cut to the chase- can Hawthorn win a prelim in Sydney?

You're under rating Dear. All the talk was about the dogs amazing talls and can hawks hold up leading into the game. Most influential key forward on the night? Calsher. Oh and Gunner bobbed up for some scoreboard impact while completely nullifying Jones. Pretty happy with where our tall...

Let’s cut to the chase- can Hawthorn win a prelim in Sydney?

Agreed. No doubt would come down to a game 7 decider and the quality of footy would be top draw. Easter Mondays are going to be must watch again for the next years. Can't wait for the Mitchell Scott contest/rivalry develop. The best coach vs the one one most likely to challenge for the title.

Rumour 2024 Hypothetical trade and FA Thread

Given some of the reported extracurricular activities of players and coaches at Dees, I'm not sure how thrilled they'd be to have the son of two serving Vic Pol officers and sibling.

How do you pass the time waiting for September?

No disrespect to the saints, but the fact a club that has one flag in its history and had nothing to play for finished the job of ending the Blues season, started by the Hawks, sums up how irrelevant the Blues have become.

Which team out of Adelaide, North and Hawthorn has the better youth? Part 2

A bit above a plodder at this stage. Give it time, a year or two under North's development program and I'm confident he'll achieve plodder status.

Game Day Round 24, 2024: Hawks v North, 12:30pm UTAS

Reckon the atmosphere is less about conditions and more to do with North being awful and Hawks cruising. Appreciate my view is probably in the minority, but as a former Hobartian I'd prefer no roof given the sterile environment at Marvel. I've been lucky enough to be sitting in a freezing...

Autopsy AFL 2024 Round 24 - Hawks v North Sat Aug 24th 12:30pm AEST (Uni Of Tas)

North are putrid. Hawks rolling around in 2nd gear all afternoon. Can't believe how far past North Hawks have gone given rebuilds started around the same time. Did it without priority picks too.

Game Day Round 24, 2024: Hawks v North, 12:30pm UTAS

Love Watson's defensive work and intensity but if ever there was a quarter to ease up a bit it's the last. But get the sense easing up isn't in Watson's DNA.

Game Day Round 24, 2024: Hawks v North, 12:30pm UTAS

Yes almost felt sorry for Bucks and Huddo when the ball was MIA on screen! When live at the ground it's always interesting to see what's happening ahead and behind the ball. Match ups, movement patterns, man loose behind or up at stoppage. Good commentators will speak to that given watching on...

Game Day Round 24, 2024: Hawks v North, 12:30pm UTAS

Very apparent the fox crew are commentating off screens in Melbourne, been awful. We are in 2nd gear and making north look well below AFL standard. Going to be very interesting to see how many hawks make the All Australian team, the narrative that we are well coached even side with no A...

Rumour 2024 Hypothetical trade and FA Thread

Pretty lazy analysis given 4.4% separates 4th on the list from Lever in 20th. Given Barrass averages 1.8 1v1 contests per game it's a small sample size so one or two wins or losses will have a big impact on where he sits on the list. Personally I put more stock in who our list manager...

Rumour 2024 Hypothetical trade and FA Thread

Agree with your take he looks an A grade defender. Also worth noting 4.4% separates Barass (34.4%) in 4th on the list and Lever who sits 20th at 30%. I'm no statistician but when Barass averages 1.8 1v1 contests per game I'm guessing it's a small sample size so one loss or win week to week...

Rumour 2024 Hypothetical trade and FA Thread

Barrass averaged over 7 spoils per game, the most of all defenders listed, as per the stats you provided in your subsequent post. Would appear to contradict the assertion he either marks or is out marked?

Toast How can this Hawthorn side be stopped?

Actually I'd suggest the GWS game is the most impressive form line. Coming off a six day break, interstate trip having played crows sunday twighlight previous round, up by 28 points at 3/4 time again playing interstate on a ground most young hawks hadn't played on previously. Given the fixture...

Hawthorn to play finals in 2024?

Did enjoy the arrogance of a number of Blues fans, "No, which clubs would Hawks over take in 2024 to make the 8?" Well the baggers for one. Da Da Da Da DONE!

    Preview Round 22, 2024: Carlton v Hawthorn, Sun 11 August, 1.10pm AEST @ MCG

Agreed, Nash is the ideal match up. Had we been out of the finals race I think Hustwaite may have been given some time on Cripps as he was against Dangerfield last year. Not because Hustwaite is the best match up but because it's good for his development. The fact Hustwaite won't get a call...

    Preview Round 22, 2024: Carlton v Hawthorn, Sun 11 August, 1.10pm AEST @ MCG

Some big decisions for selection this week. I thought CJ showed some promising signs against the crows, disappointing he took a step back on the weekend. Have a feeling Carlton's limited leg speed and space on wings at the G might present an opportunity to CJ. Hopefully CJ is given direct...

    Retiring Tom Hawkins- Retires

Get stuffed... what a game that was! Dennis could call a game, "the cat is still on the back!" only bested by "get a hearse for the curse!" Well done Tom, brilliant career and always saved his best for big games as all Hawks fans would know. Had he played in the Dunstall, Lockett, Gaz senior...

    Are the Swans done?

Surprised there hasn't been more discussion on Heeney's decision to challenge his one match suspension. Rot has well and truly set in since. Given Heeney got one week, would miss against North with Swans well clear on top, the decision to go to the tribunal and then appeal was driven by...

What's your advice to Richmond with their rebuild?

Rip the bandaid off. Identify the players who set the standards and can develop young talent, the Gunston and Bruest role. Trade out for picks but also players who may not be around for the next flag but currently occupy key roles and therefore limit development, eg Mitchell and Jager out...

Autopsy Round 21, 2024 : Hawks snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

Not to mention GWS could have their % trimmed vs lions at the Gabba or Dogs in Ballarat. No certainties against Freo either. Knock off the blues and we are still a decent chance.

Autopsy AFL 2024 Round 20 - Crows v Hawks Sun July 28th 4:10pm AEST (AO)

I thought the crows were bad, but that was awful. 10 points from quarter time until a couple of junk time goals late in the 4th. Michaelanney's dog act sums up where the crows are at; frustrated, selfish and no leadership. Murphy and Fog in leadership group, says it all really.

Autopsy Round 17, 2024 : Hawks fall in a hole in Geelong

Meek's game is an interesting one to assess. Was by no means our worst and did some nice things. But I think de Koning beat him in the ruck. Was hoping he'd use his size to intimidate Sam, similar to what big brother did to Sam recently. Meek has been great on our run of form, one of our...

Autopsy Round 17, 2024 : Hawks fall in a hole in Geelong

Can't imagine there will be any sore Cats players tomorrow. Disappointing that Geelong beat us around the ball. The usual suspects bullied us; Duncan, Danger, Atkins, Holmes and Cameron. We look good when we get it on our terms, but bring some physicality and we can go missing.
