Autopsy Round 17, 2024 : Hawks fall in a hole in Geelong

Dylan Moore is one of the best players in the comp.

Seamus Mitchell was best on ground for Box Hill then did nothing his next game, thought he was shaky in his last game in the seniors. Odd call up, thought Serong deserved it.

Was actually proud of Scrim tonight, he tried to play the Sic role, just shows how good Sic is.

Happy to be proven wrong, still not sold on CJ. Basic skills let him down at times. Good player in a shit team, but with where this team is heading he would want to focus more on his basic skills than celebrations or he won’t get a game.

Lost with a kicking gameplan in the first half.
We played pretty well after half time when we went back to our normal gameplan of running and linking up

Sam takes too long to make changes in games. Not sure if it's teaching moments to see if the players can make the changes, but it's a killer, especially when things aren't working early in games
Hang on, you actually think we had two different game plans, being directed to the players from the coaches box?

Chris Scott’s whinging a few weeks ago has ensured we are back to the 360 throwing the ball interpretations with no free kicks paid.

Well done Chris.

Sh!t coaching.

Sh!t team selection.

Sh!t on the ball.

Sh!t pressure.

Sh!t disposal.

Sh!t defending.

Sh!t effort.
This post is copping a panning, and sure it could have been more eloquently put, but the list is waaaaaay closer to accurate than inaccurate,

Things to work on, on all levels of the Football Department..

Glad they won’t be sugar coating it. These are the tough lessons to be learned

The one pleasing thing about the loss is we're not scratching our heads wondering why. The reasons were obvious and rectifiable. Losing Sic had a huge impact, his ability to slice through half back with those kicks was sorely missed. Turnovers without pressure was another. Lack of forward pressure another. All fixable and quickly. Dogs got flogged and probably played better then we did. As always, everything seemed to go right for the Cats. Outs for us, dining on our turnovers, many unforced. Will learn a lot from this.

Agree. A lot of people on here love a pile on.

Perth trip v a very soft kill
6 day break.
Sic & Ginni are huge outs (plus a very handy Dear).
We were due.
Cats same old olds stood up. Cameron, Atkins, Stewart, Duncan, Danger. Too big. Too strong.

But must not now let this season fizzle. The real test is now in rising again and winning the 50/50’s again and the sides we’ve already beaten.

Also people wondering why we are trying to sign both Perryman and Battle - tonight’s game is why. We need more defensive stocks. We can’t fall to pieces just because Sicily is out.
Also for the crowd that says Baz will pick Geelong because he walks into their midfield not ours.
Our midfield had our arses handed to us tonight and by a back man.

We are still a midfielder short of the Day and Newcombe levels at the moment maybe even 2 short.

Worpel and Nash are next level down.

Mackenzie,Ward may get there but are not at Worpel,Nash levels yet.

Geez, wish I could play at current Worpel levels.

Agree that we were due for a down game but tonight’s effort was pathetic. Cats had a few out yet their no names stepped in and embarrassed some of our supposed better players. Too many soft down hill skiers got exposed tonight. God help us when Day gets injured again - was epic in his efforts again big just gets targeted week after week. Only players who stood up were Day, Worpel, Scrimshaw, Moore and McDonald to a lesser degree but at least he tried

Serong should have played - we got killed in the air which makes the Mitchell in more puzzling

Chol was starting to win me over past few weeks but reverted back to his usual game tonight - lazy and only went when he felt like it. Breust and Gunston are cooked - we played two men down in the forward line

The loss will do us good - the need to bring in more genuine talent, hardness and depth was re enforced tonight. Our off season will be critical this year

Hard to take but onwards. Looking forward to the next few game against teams above us on the ladder, that’s when we learn. Freo, Pies, GWS and the Blues. If we can win one or two then finish with two wins we get close to the F word. Need to give a few BHH lads a run, S Mitchell still learning his craft, both of them in fact. I’m taking the bump with a grin…..maybe more of a grimace this week !

Blaming Chol?

There was a noticeable change in how we played in the second half.
Mitchell even said at half time interview they thought kicking long was the way to go - not sure what analytics they had for this as geelong are far more composed when going against kicking gameplans

Meek's game is an interesting one to assess.

Was by no means our worst and did some nice things. But I think de Koning beat him in the ruck. Was hoping he'd use his size to intimidate Sam, similar to what big brother did to Sam recently.

Meek has been great on our run of form, one of our best. But to start getting into the conversation with the likes of Grundy and Gawn he needs to impose himself physically on the opposition. Can't wait for the day he lands a Mumford type tackle on an oppo midfielder, as much for the impact on our young mids as on the opposition.

A very disappointing result.
Full credit to the cats who put on a clinic.

Were were lacking all over the ground.
Skills deserted us (fumbles, missed marks, turnovers). It really was not pretty. We used the ball like it was soap.

Defence struggled.
Mids were beaten.
Forwards too slow and missed the opportunities they had (they didn’t have a heap of decent supply either).

Sure Sicily & Ginnivan were big outs but it’s up to those who come in to win their position on the day.

It’s a great learning opportunity for everyone involved.

Bring on next week! We will rebound!
Go Hawks!
