I was quite vocal about something similar on last years thread following the final between Stars and Creek last year. In the opening minutes of the game Benjamin of the Stars had his jaw broken. After the ball was cleared by Benjamin, Creek player went through and laid a bump which resulted in...
Not sure if there's any truth to it but have heard he will play only 5 games to qualify for finals.
4 home games + the away game against Stars in around 8.
I don't think there's much lost by having consecutive years without relegation.
If it is to happen though the league will need to make the announcement pretty soon so that all clubs know what to expect.
I'm keen to see the division grow as soon as possible. I don't see any need or benefit to...
With the inclusions of Reservoir and Laurimer to Div 3, is it too early to start thinking about a 10 team Division 2 for 2017?
No Div 2 relegation for 2016 and both Div 3 grand finalist come up.
Obviously a 10 team comp is perfect in an 18 game season, playing each team twice.
I'd suspect the...
Stars will be fine in this department. Some handy pickups already with a few others on the cusp. If we're locking North and Lower into the Top 2, Stars will be 3.
The standard of Div 2 has dropped a little over the last couple of years. Great to see that it's going to lift again in 2017
They had a crack at Francis but were too late to the party.
We hear about the Year of the Bear every year with them spruiking their recruits who always fail to live up to the hype.
I don't mean any disrespect but would like to see them show something before anyone starts declaring their...
Pretty sure I've heard something of him having a foot or toe injury that would prevent him from playing any footy again. From memory he was seeking some compensation from the AFL because of the injury.
I have no idea who posted it, but it was posted on the Hurstbridge private group page and circulated around. That's the only knowledge I have of the incident, but it's not fiction.
The players voiced their distaine of him leaving, that's not fiction either.
Good to hear that the officials of...
Don't think he was treated too kindly on his way out last time and his former team mates carried on a fair bit.
In particular after his first match against Hurstbridge, which Hurstbridge won, there was a rather derogatory insult posted on their Facebook group.
Can't see him being in any rush...
All respect to him if he's come in with cracked ribs and tough it out to the end. Would have been easy for him to be a passenger but had some input and kicked a couple important goals.
Pretty solid effort by Hursbridge, wanted it more and was willing to work harder than North.
Loader BOG for...
Simpson back in for Hurstbridge. Wonder how under done he is. Didn't look too great in the Semi, had the ambulance attend for him. Did sit the game out on the bench though.
Not exactly sure what was wrong with him, ribs maybe? Might not take much more than a good tackle to flare up again...
The Stars have never finished as the minor premiers.
2012 they were still building and weren't really considered a genuine threat, challenged in 13 and 14, fell away in 15 and fell short in 16.
They've looked dangerous and capable of snagging it in 3 and of those years but again, not to be...
In my opinion the Stars came up against the 2 best sides that have ever competed in Division 2 in those grand finals.
Had a lull last year and whilst they left it late, they did enough to win their final this year but had it taken away from them and would probably be coming up against North...
Looks like Division 3 is shaping up to be a 9 team comp next year.
I wonder how soon it will be before we can expect to see a couple extra teams filter up into Division 2. I don't suspect it would take all that much for Epping, South Morang or Mernda to get up to speed.
A 10 team comp in...
I think Division 2 was at its strongest in 2013 and 2014. Whittlesea, North and Stars over that period were the strongest teams I've seen in the division. Both sides lost a couple when they went up a division and couldn't make a good go of it.
North Heidelberg favourite for sure. They started...
Again, my apologies if any offence was taken.
I don't think my allegiance has a lot of weight in this conversation. We are having a discussion of Hurstbridge fuelled by you digging up old posts on people's predictions.
Congratulations to you for your team being there, enjoy the experience of...
I'm not here to pot anyone, if Rushed Point takes any offence in that comment then my apologies.
What I meant is that the argument that Hurstbridge are one of the best 2 teams because they finished top 2 is simplistic when their form in the second half of the season and running into finals...
These Hurstbridge blokes have come out of hiding and are trawling through the forum for any fuel they can give themselves after their side have fallen over the line and into the grand final through fortunate circumstance.
The two best teams, give it a spell. Got a win against Diamond Creek on...
I'd still back North to get up even without Harvey. I think Hurstbridge were good and showed their best in the first final and North had a pretty ordinary day, but just laid down the hammer when they needed to.
Would be a more interesting game but would be disappointing. Always want to watch...
First half 26:15. As the camera pans away you do have to pause to see the frame more clearly (as in post #531) or if you have the tech knowledge, download the footage and slow it down. When the camera pans back, you can see the player is in a bad way.
Obviously too late to do anything about it...
Accident or not, the duty of care is on the player that has elected to lay the bump. Even so, this incident WAS NOT an accident. He chose to make the contact. Perhaps he didn't intend to make head high contact, but that is irrelevant. The duty of care is on the offending player and he has...
Whilst I can't confirm if it was on a match day report from the umpire or the club. I am under the belief there was a formal submission put to the NFL that the incident at the very least be considered by the Match Review Panel. This is not unreasonable.
I understand that incidents can go...
Going by the NFL tribunal results it looks like this matter wasn't even looked at.
Wowee. How do we protect our players from each other when the league won't protect them.
An incident where the player:
1. elected to lay the bump (even after the ball had cleared the area).
2. made head high...
Umpire looked like he was a long way from the contest and out of position to make the call. Definitely not enough in it to be a free kick. Going to be a fairly underwhelming day at Preston City Oval.
Also Brad Perry, Diamond Creek number 9 is surely going to sit out the rest of the season for this hit.
Was never in the contest. Ball was long gone by the time he chose to lay the bump.
Clinton Benjamin, arguably the Fitzroy Stars best player, likely Best & Fairest out of the game in the...
The comp appear to be holding off from posting the second half Stars Vs DC replay. Hopefully the footage doesn't get edited out so that we can have a closer look for ourselves.
