I'm surprised no-one's mentioned Rushmore yet. Going on what the soundtrack lends to the movie (rather than just the quality of the collection of songs), it's hard to go past Rushmore and Donnie Darko.
Oddly enough, Round 4, 1997 against Hawthorn at Subi. This was in the middle of his brief comeback, having spent the previous season playing CHB for Souths. He kicked 7 that night, despite taking only 1 mark. He played on Mark Graham who, despite dominating the one-on-one contests, had to watch...
If we include Burton, then we also have to add Ben Robbins (now at the Kangaroos, via Brisbane) who was on our list in '94 & '95 but never played a game.
Also, who's this Stone character ? Our Nick Stone finished up in 2000, and is most definitely NOT the same person as Hawthorn's Nick Stone.
Just the opposite, actually - the concept was first used in Australian Rules, and then borrowed by RL. I think it was the brainchild of the Western Australians, who were sick of seeing local players move to (and indeed play for) Victoria. In the first SOO match (1977), WA beat Victoria by 94...
I think it's a sign of a very astute selector to not destroy the chemistry of the FB line, despite a certain defender getting McKernan-ed last week. My direct opponent kicked only the one goal, due in no small part to the fierce pressure he was put under during the first 8.540001% of the game :)
But the skateboard originally belongs to Paul - it's not shared (like the dogs and flea circus). The dogs and the flea circus are originally half-owned by both Ross and Paul, the skateboard isn't.
Say your grandmother gave you and your brother $10 to share, how much would he have to pay you...
I get $2 for the skateboard. I think you have to remember that the skateboard isn't actually shared to begin with, so skateboard = 1/2 (dog - flea circus).
It's interesting that the answer (mine, at least) is independent of the number of cats. When the square of the number of cats is divided...
Sorry to pick one quote out of an interesting post, but this is VERY harsh on McKenna, IMO. He had outstanding defensive ability - he was virtually never conceded the ball to his opponent in a one-on-one contest. His attacking skills were also first rate - the cool delivery into the midfield...
I should point out that although the forward pocket kicked 12 against us in the Wizard Cup SF, I'd been dragged well and truly before he got those last two!
Oh well, the black-and-whites will be all the richer for my "Me, chase? Did I mention I was on the Bulldogs rookie list ?" attitude on...
I could tell you about the time Karl Langdon kicked a running right foot (i.e. wrong foot) banana from the boundary line at Subi......but you'd hardly believe it.
Best mark - Muddy Waterman over Carey & Jako in '93.
One of the most memorable games I've ever been to (the others would be the 94 QF against Collingwood, and the 1-point loss to Carlton at Subi in 95).
McAvaney copped a fair bit of flak for his "Carey would've kicked that" comment after Grant missed from about 40 out just before half time. But...
Apart from the abysmal foot and hand skills ? I must admit I haven't seen Glass play in the WAFL, but at AFL level he appears to be somewhat of a clanger merchant.
I think Glass can develop into a pretty decent key defender, if he can learn to avoid the ball at all costs :)
As much as I love the mighty black-and-whites, I've always found our song a bit grating. Doesn't it have the same tune as "Babyface, you've got the cutest little babyface...." ? If not, it's far too similar for my liking.
Mick still does! Actually it was a Tony Evans boot, but the point's well made. That decision probably cost us the game - I stand corrected. It was a fair effort by the Eagles considering Symmons kept Kouta to a lazy 37 possessions (or thereabouts). Those two 1-point losses to Carlton (also 1995...
Well said. Players make many more unforced errors (as a fraction of total possessions) than umpires do (as a fraction of total decisions). Surely Aussie Rules would have to be one of the hardest games in the world to umpire - a lot of decisions are far from black and white and are left to the...
Re: Re: Re: To do a Sam Newman....
True enough, but I'm not sure booting a Sherrin into someone's face is necessarily the best way to educate foreigners about our great game. :)
I'll have a crack, judging lines on how well they actually played, and not on the careers of the individuals.
B: McIntosh, Brennan, Hart (circa 1994)
HB: McKenna, Jakovich, Worsfold (selects itself)
C: Matera, Kemp, Mainwaring (ditto)
HF: Heady, White, Gehrig (1996)
F: Evans, Sumich, Ball...
Indeed - Evans' performances in finals alone should be enough for him to have the forward pocket.
Ross Glendinning is a bit of a forgotten man in West Coast's history. He won AA selection in 1987 (alternating between CHF and CHB, from memory) and kicked 73 goals (mostly from CHF, some from...
I'll assume the mantle of the tall, laconic defender who always looks like he's not trying when he has a bad game. Can probably hold down a key defensive position if someone's having a shocker.
As a career defender, it'd be unwise to play me in the forward line - I can hit a target quite nicely...
Not a passionate one, no. Like most of the Australians living in the US that I know, I've taken more to baseball and ice hockey than to gridiron & basketball. The former is somewhat of a surrogate for cricket, and the latter contains elements not dissimilar to those in Aussie Rules.
My brief...
Fox Sports World is available through digital cable, and that shows 1 match per round (late the following Thursday night) and also a weekly highlights package. It's not too bad, although the games they show appear to be have been chosen before the round starts - there have been several rounds...
Agreed, although I enjoyed the question that began "Dear Mr. Woosha......".
Reading his comment about Josh Wooden made me believe for the first time that 'couldn't find a match-up for him' isn't simply a euphemism for 'dropped'. I'm wondering if anyone knows of another coach who has...
I'll claim the back pocket if there are no other takers. During my junior footy days, I was a rare breed of forward - one who NEVER knew where the goals were. After evading tacklers, I'd often have a quick snap over my left shoulder only to find that I'd sprayed it out of bounds on the half...
Well, I certainly hope you're right Black Thunder (I've only seen Adkins play the one pre-season game). Admittedly we're only 4 rounds in, but Williams' form in the black-and-white has me wondering. He may yet join Clape, Laidley, Connell and West Coast icon Tim Watson as Eagle 'discards' to...
