Not his finest performance. Will be interesting to see what the Libs media strategy is if he does get the top job because he'll do some damage if not very carefully managed.
There's a minority of West Coast supporters that get really precious every time this comes up. To state that Shuey has tailored his game towards trying to create high contact and that it's pretty crap to watch is not a criticism of West Coast or their supporters or some eastern state conspiracy...
Don't think they cost the game. We got a very good run early but there were a few soft calls Richmond's way as well later in the game. Embarrassing from the umps either way.
Richmond have their own injuries but they probably should beat us tonight. Even if they lose though Hardwick is in no trouble whatsoever. Richmond are improving but still don't have enough quality yet to consistently compete. That's not the coaches fault.
Will probably depend on whether they view the contact as avoidable. I don't think Thompson had any realistic alternative but who knows. No relation to the Ziebell incident.
Cloke was responsible for a lot of those forward entries. From memory he was top 5 in the league last year for inside 50s per game. It's not just his contesting marking and goals that make him valuable but also his lead up work.
Has always been a bit overrated based on his actual output. Too many confuse what he's capable of with what he actually is. That being said he'd be the first ruckman I'd pick if I were starting a team from scratch. His potential is limitless and as long as he doesn't lose any of that athleticism...
Because without a set role he tends to drift in and out of the game. Carlton supporters blame Ratts but the reality is that Gibbs doesn't work hard enough to impact the game from midfield. Unless he pulls his finger out and decides to truly push himself he'll never be more than what he is.
Scott can prattle on all he likes about the what he thinks is good of the game but nothing will change. The AFL do not want these sort of avoidable impacts in the game whether we like it or not. Best everyone gets used to it.
High bumps are against the rules whether you are contesting the ball or not and it's been this way for a a few years now. Read the rulebook. Joseph is under no obligation to raise his arms to protect his head from an oncoming player jumping into him illegally. The responsibility lies with the...
Wouldn't be surprised if Lucas was carrying a niggle but he needs to work harder to impact the game when given an opportunity IMO. He can't be waiting for the game to come to him. He doesn't have the footskills or game breaking ability to impact the game with only a few touches.
I was talking about the risk of suspension. Tucking the arm lowered the risk of injury to himself but put him in a situation where, under the current rules, any resulting contact to his opponents head would see him suspended. It's not some new rule. It's been this way for a while.
Exactly. The guidelines the tribunal need to adhere to are quite clear and they won't be changing anytime soon. Whether North fans like it or not jumping into an opponent with your arm tucked these days is taking a stupid risk for little reward.
Here's the current rule for high bumps sourced from the 2012 tribunal handbook. It's really quite straightforward and most of the arguments around Ziebell protecting himself, touching the ball first etc. are irrelevant. The only real question under the rules is whether he had a realistic...
Every team has flogs who will defend anything. Carlton certainly has quite a few supporters whose opinions I do not share in the slightest. I'm not sure why it's necessary to discuss a team's supporters as if they're all one entity with all the same opinions.
I doubt it. Best result we could get would be a small reduction and that would be extremely unlikely. Reckon we'll just accept it and move on. Our season's done anyway.
I think also the difference is that Ziebell tucked his arm whereas Harbrow actually reached for the ball to knock it away. If Ziebell had done the same he probably would've got off. 4 is probably harsh but he deserved a couple IMO.
People still listen to 7's commentators? They're clueless, offer no insight and regurgitate the same tired shit over and over again. Mute is your friend.
