No, they have requested july because the footbridge might not be ready until then, and being a 6.10 start there will be traffic chaos if the estimated 14k who will use the bridge have to find another way in. Nothing to do with a light show, the extra cash generated by a friday nght game would...
Without googling, who can remember which teams/event opened the redeveloped Adelaide Oval, or Etihad?
It really doesnt matter who opens it, if its ready to use then start accepting bookings, every week it sits idle it's losing money.
This pic was taken during a cricket game but it's before the grass banks were built...just visualise some AFL posts at either end and thats what it looked like for AFL.
Milestone could be this?
"The document also reveals that the stadium operator has until August 1 to advise West Coast and Fremantle whether or not the venue will be ready for the first match of the 2018 season."...
Given how every other government project in this state has panned out...do you honestly believe that it will only cost 1.2b? Given past history I'd say $2b is probably more realistic.
I should clarify that request was for this season, no idea what they'll ask for next season or if the new stadium and season ticket holders will change it...
Believe it or not west coast actually requested Sunday afternoon games as a survey of their members indicated this is their preferred time slot. I guess the older demographic of their season ticket holders prefers to venture out of the house in the afternoon rather than a friday/saturday night.
I get what you're saying, but the WAFC also has a responsibility to its stakeholders to make every penny they can, they aren't in a position to turn down the millions in revenue that a sold out crowd generates just to satisfy the nostalgia very few will feel towards the venue and a competition...
The current rotation doesn't have to be honoured, look down the list, it's swapped around more seasons than not...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Derby
I can picture the conversations now "F**K off sheeran you ranger b@stard, we'll open with Jebediah thanks, don't need any of your foreign sounds polluting our west austrayan stadium"
The Government and Venueslive will be in no position to turn down the millions of dollars they will make from this one event. It may not be ideal but money talks and the stadium needs to be paid for, they need as much additional content on top of AFL and Cricket as they can get.
There wont be a catering contract, Venueslive do their own catering. The article mentions they are finalising suppliers etc, this is different to contracting out the catering rights, unless they're going to brew beer themselves they will need a beer supplier, unless they buy a vineyard they'll...
Everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that the 60,000 stadium capacity includes corporates. Domain holds roughly 3000 corporates included in its 43,500 capacity, I highly doubt the new stadium is going to have less corporate space that Domain holds, so I'd estimate there will be at least 5000...
